U2 resumed their Las Vegas Sphere residency Friday night after a six-week break, and the mid-show acoustic set featured their first-ever live performance of the 1986 Crowded House classic “Don’t Dream It’s Over.” It was dedicated to that band’s frontman Neil Finn, Tim Finn, his brother and longtime creative collaborator, and their mother Mary.

Although the group has yet to be removed from its roster, there's mounting pressure facing organizers of Australia's WOMADelaide music festival to remove the act Swamp Thing. The drummer's teenage son (and occasional band member) is notorious for internet trolling, including targeting Amanda Todd, the Canadian teenager who committed suicide last October due to bullying. She was 15.
According to Adelaide Now, Swamp Thing — consisting of Grant Haua and former Split Enz and John Butler Trio member and drummer Michael Barker (and occasionally his son Tristan) — were confirmed to play the the Adelaide event. However, things may change following news over the weekend of Tristan's caustic, hate-filled tweets, Facebook posts and YouTube posts over the years, including tweets about Amanda Todd.
After Todd's death made headlines internationally, Tristan Barker posted a 10-minute rant on YouTube regarding the incident about "another teenage girl's slutty histrionic behavior" and how she made a "sad...

Oscar winner Peter Jackson turned to fellow New Zealander Neil Finn to pen a tune for the first film in "The Hobbit" trilogy, "An Unexpected Journey." -Insertgroups:12- Finn, who fronted the chart-topping Split Enz and Crowded House, does double duty, crooning the "Song of the Lonely Mountain" over the end credits of the picture. He says the song was inspired by the work of the dwarves who populate this first of three prequels to "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. As Finn recounts to Rolling Stone, Jackson encouraged him to get in a "dwarven state of mind." The result is a song that soars, moving from the mines where the dwarves toil to the heights they must cross. Take a listen here. It certainly sounds like an Oscar contender, in the vein of the two nominated tracks that played over the end credits of the first and last of...

They might seem unlikely stars for a 3D film, but for Cane Toads: The Conquest director Mark Lewis it was a natural choice. He tells Ed Gibbs about Australia's love-hate relationship with this unwanted intruder
They ran over them with cars, bashed them with cricket bats, took swings at them with golf clubs – and nothing made any difference. Their lethal toxic venom ensured that anything that ate them came off second best. Some people boiled them, others made pets of them, and at least one (musician Tim Finn) wrote a song about them. The cane toad, Australia's plague species, was immortalised in a 1987 documentary Cane Toads: An Unnatural History. Now, some 25 years on, the toads are back – bigger and badder than ever, in Cane Toads: The Conquest, Australia's first-ever 3D film.
At least part of the reason behind the unexpected success of Mark Lewis's original film – with a domestic...

Here in the Newsroom, we spent plenty of time in the morning looking at the day and week ahead. But it was clear this Am that Discovery's "Shark Week" was also very much on our minds. We were still reveling in the magic that was "Ultimate Air Jaws" when we started brainstorming the perfect songs to play when staring a toothy great white shark down.

Liam Finn’s moody but mannered debut featured a song called “The Shadow Of Your Man.” Why be coy, though? I’ll Be Lightning bore the musical DNA of Elliott Smith, but Liam himself bears the genetic material of Crowded House and Split Enz frontman Neil Finn. His sophomore effort, Fomo, is a valiant, largely successful attempt to carve out a unique identity by dint of buzzing guitars, overdubbed harmonies, and busy production. It helps that Finn has never been as convincingly unhinged as he is on “The Struggle,” where he wails “Are you worth the trouble?” over a seesawing ...

When Liam Finn sings, “I knew I couldn’t have you / right from the very start / and that’s why you see right through me / the boy who ate your heart,” during Fomo‘s earliest moments, he sounds humbled, but also resigned to his place in an existence often fraught with anxiety, obsession, maladjustment. It’s a good look on him, the Kiwi songwriter and son of Crowded House/Split Enz music vet, Neil. Fomo isn’t as long or excitable as Finn’s 2007 debut, I’ll Be Lightning, nor is at as aggressive or raucous as his live show, but that suits...

Jemaine Clement Is In A Predicament! An Exclusive Early Look At Jason Stutter's Gothic Crime Comedy!
Following a pair of sold out and raucously received festival screenings in Wellington, Jason Stutter's New Zealand gothic crime comedy Predicament is all set to launch its official site tomorrow offering most the first look at the film's full theatrical trailer. But you, the faithful Twitch reader, are not among that 'most'. For here, right now, we have an exclusive early look.
Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement plays a major role in this one, along with Heath Franklin and Hayden Frost as a trio of would-be blackmail artists who have things go badly wrong.
The production design on this looks bang on, almost as bang on as the sense of deliciously macabre comic timing. Clement - always fantastic - looks to keep his fans coming back for more as the pasty faced con man, while the young stars are engaging and, yes, that Is musician Tim Finn...

New Zealand’s venerable Neil Finn—best known as the frontman for Crowded House—has a history of assembling ad hoc supergroups that dates back to his Rock Party project in the ’80s. He’s used the 7 Worlds Collide name twice now, once for a live album benefiting Medicins Sans Frontiers in 2001 and now for The Sun Came Out, which reunites most of those players for a studio-bound sequel benefiting Oxfam. This time out, KT Tunstall and most of Wilco round out a cast that also includes 7 Worlds Collide vets Tim Finn, Johnny Marr, Lisa Germano, and ...

Pick Of The Week. 7 Worlds Collide -- The Sun Came Out The brainstorm of singer-songwriter and New Zealand pop legend Neil Finn, 7 Worlds Collide first came about in 2002, when Finn and a stellar group of musicians that included Eddie Vedder, Johnny Marr, Ed O'Brien & Phil Selway of Radiohead, and Neil's brother, Split Enz founder Tim Finn, put on a series of concerts to benefit the international medical humanitarian organization Medecins Sans Frontieres. This time, sans Eddie Vedder, but including Wilco, the concerts happened again, as well as this 2 CD studio LP, that is just remarkable from top to bottom. This year the benficiary of all proceeds will go to Oxfam, which you could read all about here and the full roster of musicians can be found here.
