October Halloween Horrorfest 2018

by apathy2673 | created - 01 Oct 2018 | updated - 17 Oct 2018 | Public

I just watched 30 horror movies in 16 days. I saw quite a few good ones this year. I tried to watch as recent as possible streaming releases on Netflix and Amazon. Watching through the crap to find some good. And there is a LOT of crap. Gore is hard to find these days too...but like I said, there were quite a few good ones(13).

I make these lists to remember what I watched, maybe they'll be helpful to others. I like GORE, MAYHEM, HIGH BODY COUNTS, sleaze, psycho killers, splatter, monsters, demons, satanic stuff ghosts...so pretty much everything, except movies like The Witch.

Budgets small and big as long as they don't skimp on the gore and mayhem, I'm happy. Now, the wait for October 31st to watch Halloween.

Director: McG | Stars: Judah Lewis, Samara Weaving, Robbie Amell, Hana Mae Lee

Votes: 108,306

A lot of mayhem, satanism, violence and gore. Good body count, the babysitter looks just like Denise Richards. There's a little bit of goofy comedy for some reason...also, this movie is fuckin' weird. Absolutely October approved.

2. Day of the Dead: Bloodline (2017)

Votes: 12,459

Good October viewing. A ton of gore, disembowelments, eviscerations, skulls crushed, necks bitten and spraying blood everywhere with flesh being ripped off. There's some kind of plot where characters make dumb decisions and get ripped apart and eaten by zombies and they do it every other scene. Awesome. We're here to see people get ripped apart and eaten by zombies.

Votes: 34,729

Decent flick about a murderous AI & giant robot that keep a freaky scientists house secure and his kidnapped female under guard. He wants to sell his AI and needs humans to help perfect it. He also likes to torture it to show who's boss. Low gore but looks good. October appoved.

4. The Devil's Dolls (2016)

Director: Padraig Reynolds | Stars: Christopher Wiehl, Kym Jackson, Tina Lifford, Samantha Smith

Votes: 1,858

Feels like a bloody Lifetime movie...not sleazy. Pretty fun for October. Satanic/voodoo serial killer gets killed by cops and leaves a box of creepy doll necklaces behind. Cops daughter sells the dolls making wearers go psycho and slit thoats. Throat slashings by scissors, glass, garden shears, drill through cops' skull and more. Plus an awesome stuntman lit on fire run to a jump in a lake.

Director: Alastair Orr | Stars: Sharni Vinson, Carlyn Burchell, Steven John Ward, Gustav Gerdener

Votes: 9,564

Dumbass kidnappers kidnap a demon. Sleazy, not as gory as you think, well made...gets an October approval. It's just, man, even for a horror movie, you've seen this movie before. In fact, you've seen every scene in this movie before. Blood, demons, excorcisms, bloody deaths...check it out.

6. Jigsaw (I) (2017)

R | 92 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

39 Metascore

Directors: Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig | Stars: Matt Passmore, Tobin Bell, Callum Keith Rennie, Hannah Emily Anderson

Votes: 92,345 | Gross: $38.05M

Well it's a Saw movie. Jigsaw, cops on his trail, sinners stuck in a farmhouse that's a tortuous killing machine of traps, meeting grisly, gory deaths. Sounds like an October Halloween movie to see. Approved! Dude looks just like Gronkowski.

7. Sweet Home (2015)

Votes: 2,608

Real estate development firm sends the guy from Pieces to "evict" holdout tenants. Real estate broker is trapped in the building with her boyfriend, and 3 eviction "agents". Things go bad, guy from Pieces gets called in to kill the girl. Sleazy, gory, bloody. Decapitations, axe murders, liquid nitrogen and much more violence abound. October approved. Nothing special but it delivers what you want to see.

8. Friend Request (2016)

R | 92 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

31 Metascore

When a college student unfriends a mysterious girl online, she finds herself fighting a demonic presence that wants to make her lonely by killing her closest friends.

Director: Simon Verhoeven | Stars: Alycia Debnam-Carey, William Moseley, Connor Paolo, Brit Morgan

Votes: 27,827 | Gross: $3.76M

Pretty girl unfriends a demonic witch on Facebook. Demonic witch kills herself, infects the internet with satanic code and wreaks havoc on the pretty girl's real and online life. This could've been a decent satanic revenge movie without all the phones and Facebook. A bit dull, light on gore heavy on satanic mayhem.

9. Malevolent (III) (2018)

TV-MA | 89 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

A team of scam artists get more than they bargained for when a job at a haunted country estate gets out of hand.

Passengers and crew on a flight are attacked by unseen forces that threaten all aboard.

Director: Rob Pallatina | Stars: Liz Fenning, Jose Rosete, Joseph Michael Harris, Greg Furman

Votes: 1,669

October approved. Pretty fun Ghosts on a Plane trash. No gore but a ton of ghostly mayhem and SATANIC SALADS! Fast paced zips along, beats Snakes on a Plane.

11. Intruders (2015)

R | 90 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

39 Metascore

Director: Adam Schindler | Stars: Rory Culkin, Leticia Jimenez, Jack Kesy, Timothy McKinney

Votes: 14,252

3 morons try to rob a "psycho bitch" who has agoraphobia. Unfortunately, she and her dead brother were Jigsaw like serial killers with a torture house. It's ok though, they only killed child molesters! Sleazy, gory, well done...not a large bodycount. Gets an October approval.

12. White Coffin (2016)

75 min | Action, Horror, Thriller

Votes: 849

October approved. Mom's daughter is kidnapped by a psycho tow truck driver. Mom is killed, then has to battle other moms in purgatory for the white coffin to bring their daughters back to the living. Weirdo goth people, decapitations, stabbings, children burned alive. Pretty low budget with some weird green screens. Religious overtones. Not dull at all.

A family moves to a new house and unleashes terrifying paranormal events that become increasingly violent and disturbing, until a priest comes to their aid, with unforeseen consequences.

Director: Daniel Rodríguez Risco | Stars: Marco Zunino, Fiorella Díaz, Lucho Cáceres, Zoe Arévalo

Votes: 1,141

October approved possession flick. Family moves into a house that has an unfriendly ghost living in the satanic basement. Creepy ghost creeps and scares. Ghost possesses Mom, and a priest comes in for the excorcism. Nice lighting, no cgi, small body count but definitely demonic. Low budget but works well with what it has, creepy and pretty good horror-wise.

On Halloween night, Tara Heyes finds herself as the obsession of a sadistic murderer known as Art the Clown.

Director: Damien Leone | Stars: Jenna Kanell, Samantha Scaffidi, David Howard Thornton, Catherine Corcoran

Votes: 52,751

Gory and sleazy. Decapitations, eviscerations, stabbings, limb lopping, eyeball gouging, a 1911 emptied into a face. Unfortunately it's just plain old boring. But you'll watch it for that weirdo clown. Hell, I did. So go ahead and watch it.

15. As Above, So Below (2014)

R | 93 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

39 Metascore

When a team of explorers venture into the catacombs that lie beneath the streets of Paris, they uncover the dark secret that lies within this city of the dead.

Director: John Erick Dowdle | Stars: Perdita Weeks, Ben Feldman, Edwin Hodge, François Civil

Votes: 111,961 | Gross: $21.20M

Little gore. A bit higher budget than your typical found footage movie...but it's still your typical found footage movie. This would've made a decent National Treasure type horror/tomb raiding move without the found footage angle. Passable.

16. It Came from the Desert (2017)

Not Rated | 90 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

A pulpy monster movie inspired by the cult classic 1980s video game "It Came from the Desert," featuring rival motocross heroes and heroines, kegger parties in the desert, secret underground military bases...and of course giant ants!

Director: Marko Mäkilaakso | Stars: Harry Lister Smith, Alex Mills, Vanessa Grasse, Mark Arnold

Votes: 1,918

Giant alien/spider hybrid ants attack! Teens partying in the desert. Some cool dirt biking, a lot of ants get killed. Big ass queen ant gets mad. Silly, low budget, not great...but hey, it's a giant ant movie...not really for adults more for teens.

17. Stephanie (I) (2017)

R | 86 min | Horror, Mystery

After a mysterious global crisis, a young girl is left alone to hide from a malevolent power that stalks her home. Her parents eventually return and the struggle begins to save their daughter.

Director: Akiva Goldsman | Stars: Shree Crooks, Frank Grillo, Anna Torv, Jonah Beres

Votes: 6,405

Little girl alone at home terrorized by monster. Some kind of worldwide viral outbreak happening. Little girl IS the monster. Little girl FINALLY kills the annoying mom and dad and heads off to destroy earth, I guess. 3 deaths no gore, no mayhem. Decent movie if you like this kind of horror. Definitely NOT for October.

18. Wither (2012)

Not Rated | 95 min | Horror, Thriller

Ida and Albin are a happy couple. They set off to a cabin in the vast Swedish woodlands to have a fun holiday with their friends. But under the floorboards waits an evil from Sweden's dark past.

Directors: Sonny Laguna, Tommy Wiklund | Stars: Patrik Berg-Almkvisth, Lisa Henni, Patrick Saxe, Johannes Brost

Votes: 2,433

So a bunch of people went to a cabin in the woods to make a horror movie. They forgot to write a story. There's a lot of gore, some mayhem decapitations, stabbings, gunshots and people being turned into face eating demons(?). High body count, worth a look for October. It's just low budget, not so good...and that mopey violin music!

19. Thirst (III) (2015)

87 min | Action, Adventure, Horror

When a group of wayward teens arrive at a desert boot camp, with no communication, and nowhere to run to, they realize their only chance for survival is to fight for their lives.

Director: Greg Kiefer | Stars: John Redlinger, Jes Macallan, Karl Makinen, Clare Niederpruem

Votes: 1,338

Rich kids sent to wilderness camp by their asshole parents. Unfortunately an alien has landed near the camp and likes to suck bodies dry of their blood. Serviceable TV movie level action flick. Some light gore, cool monster...just no way is this October viewing.

20. Wish Upon (2017)

PG-13 | 90 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror

32 Metascore

A teenage girl discovers a box that carries magic powers and a deadly price for using them.

Director: John R. Leonetti | Stars: Joey King, Ryan Phillippe, Ki Hong Lee, Mitchell Slaggert

Votes: 22,902 | Gross: $14.30M

By the numbers, but well made, teen horror movie. A decent bodycount, some chinese supernatural mayhem. Box grants wishes that come with an extra side of death. Not that gory. Typical bigger budget horror...kinda boring. Hey! Jerry O'Connell! I watched the Unrated version.

21. June (I) (2015)

Not Rated | 84 min | Fantasy, Horror

JUNE is a 9-year-old orphan girl who shares her body with an ancient supernatural being whose mission is to destroy mankind to allow nature to prevail on earth.

Director: L. Gustavo Cooper | Stars: Kennedy Brice, Victoria Pratt, Eddie Jemison, Lance E. Nichols

Votes: 1,774

The trailer was a full scene from the movie with June floating in the air and firebombing a trailer park. Looked cool. They reshot that scene for the movie and it was not as cool. No idea why. Average movie with an annoying Mom, some satanists(?) and good ole Casper Van Dien. Johnny motherfucking Rico.

22. The Wicked One (2017)

91 min | Horror, Thriller

A group of traveling friends who are hoping for a fun filled weekend getaway, find themselves in the cross hairs of one of the most dangerous and prolific serial killers in history.

Director: Tory Jones | Stars: Katie Stewart, Dale Miller, Jack Norman, Sonya Delormier

Votes: 322

Decent body count but no gore shown, really. If you're gonna make a movie about a huge psycho killer with a scary mask, have him in the whole damn movie. There is over an hour of blah blah blah yappin characters at a farmhouse. Finally mask guy comes back for the last 20 minutes and kills these yappers. I just can't recommend it for fun October viewing.

23. Here Alone (2016)

Not Rated | 98 min | Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi

59 Metascore

A young woman struggles to survive on her own in the wake of a mysterious epidemic that has killed much of society, and forced her deep into the unforgiving wilderness.

Director: Rod Blackhurst | Stars: Lucy Walters, Gina Piersanti, Adam David Thompson, Shane West

Votes: 7,923

Not an October movie. Not really even a zombie movie. Survivor girl in woods meets a guy & a girl. They go swimming, then later some zombies come out of nowhere, kill the guy and the 2 girls leave and it's over. I'm serious. That's it.

24. Curse of the Mayans (2017)

Not Rated | 88 min | Action, Drama, Horror

Dr. Alan Green an American Archelogist leads Danielle Noble an her team of cave divers on an expedition searching the Mayan ancient records. Instead of finding glory they will find hell hidden in the underwater caves of Xibalba.

Director: Joaquin Rodriguez | Stars: Olga Fonda, Steve Wilcox, Carla Ortiz, Mark Tacher

Votes: 1,028

Well lit, well acted, good cameras, some nice cave photography. NO gore, NO sleaze, NO violence and mayhem, NO high body count and NO GORE. Less than 5 minutes of screen time for the fish monster aliens. Definitely NOT October viewing.

25. I Had a Bloody Good Time at House Harker (2016)

It's been generations since the Harkers' great-great grandfather killed Count Dracula. Now the Harker brothers and their best friend Ned are a town joke - until a real vampire turns up.

Votes: 929

Don't.

73 min | Horror

Scientists investigate mysterious disappearances at a research base where it has been reported a savage creature was spotted.

Director: Mark Polonia | Stars: Titus Himmelberger, Natalie Himmelberger, Noyes J. Lawton, Jamie Morgan

Votes: 143

Not for Halloween fun. The bare minimum of effort to poop a "movie" out, make a poster, and sell it to Amazon video. They'll apparently buy anything to add to its streaming library. It's worse than Birdemic level. And the "Yeti" is literally an off the shelf Halloween gorilla costume. Goddammit

27. Triassic World (2018 Video)

Not Rated | 89 min | Action, Horror, Sci-Fi

Dinosaurs are being used to grow human organs for transplants. But the scientists that created them have to fight back when the creatures escape.

Director: Dylan Vox | Stars: Shellie Arizu Sterling, Hayley J Williams, Joseph Michael Harris, Jennifer Levinson

Votes: 677

Painful. Everything about this movie is painful. Well, almost everything. The giant plastic crocodile mouth they use for closeup chomping shots gets a lot of screen time and is funny. It's the true star of the show.

28. Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel (2018)

Not Rated | 89 min | Horror, Mystery

Two years after escaping from demonic terror, a young woman is still haunted by unnatural visions.

Director: Stephen Cognetti | Stars: Vas Eli, Jillian Geurts, Joy Shatz, Dusty Austen

Votes: 7,098

Found footage. Seemingly improvised; poorly. Maybe this was a workplace safety/fire code violation video because this attraction is actually a deathtrap, with no fire exits, no security, exposed extension cords and wiring, and hot film lights everywhere. And that basement! Bad movie, not October approved.

29. The Jurassic Dead (2017)

82 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

A cracked scientist aligns with the Axis of Evil to bring down the US of A with EMP blasts, toxic zombification gas and an unleashing of the ultimate undead killing monstrosity -- the Z-REX... See full summary »

Directors: Milko Davis, Thomas Martwick | Stars: Matt Block, Cooper Elliott, Ben Johnson, Mia Paris

Votes: 353

This is not a good October or anytime movie. This is Birdemic level without the unintentional humor. What the fuck is this movie? No gore, no action, no zombies, no jurassic flesh eating action. No bueno.

30. Corbin Nash (2018)

TV-MA | 94 min | Action, Horror, Thriller

A rogue Police Detective in search of his parents' killer is murdered and then reborn as the ultimate killer.

Director: Ben Jagger | Stars: Corey Feldman, Malcolm McDowell, Rutger Hauer, Bruce Davison

Votes: 5,255

It's a big, terrible mess. Corey Feldman as a transvestite vampire appears to be channeling Divine, taking a dump, with the look on his face in every scene. I'm not sure why people put him in movies anymore. He doesn't act, he just does the same weird ass Corey Feldman schtick and ruins movies.

31. Halloween (1978)

R | 91 min | Horror, Thriller

90 Metascore

Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again.
