Britannia (2017)
They hung out in Cairo?
My complaint with this show is not historical accuracy but stupid anachronisms. The use of the word "aye " is particularly grating as it did not enter English until the 1570s. But the most egregious error is when the general recalls a visit to Cairo, a city not founded for 950 years!
From Russia with Love (1963)
The best!
Number 2 in the never ending franchise is not only the best of the bunch but also very close to the Fleming novel (as was Dr No). It's actually quite refreshing to see a Bond film that doesn't slavishly follow the same formula as the later films. Not to mention Daniela Bianchi is quite possibly the sexiest Bond girl ever.
The Game (1997)
I enjoyed it but...
This film started out with great promise but quickly deteriorated. The fact that the antagonists anticipated EVERY move that the protagonist makes is ludicrous to the max. Just one example will illustrate what I mean. When van Orten retrieved his gun from his house he doesn't check the bullets?! Any experienced shooter ALWAYS checks any firearm they are going to use as any neglect of this duty would be suicidal. I rest my case
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
A Classic
A perfect film in every way. Casting, art direction and the acting are superb.
A Time to Kill (1996)
Anatomy of a Kill?
This film/novel are clearly a ripoff of the 1959 film Anatomy of a Murder. A modest country lawyer takes on an almost impossible murder case where the defendant is obviously guilty. He is assisted by an alcoholic lawyer and his secretary. They enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Sound familiar?
This film also contains some of the same legal mistakes of Anatomy: lawyers standing in front of witnesses in order to intimidate, etc.
Anatomy of a Murder (1959)
Objection! Badgering the witness!
As drama this film is excellent. As an accurate depiction of court procedure it is sadly lacking. All evidence and witness lists must be shared with the opposition The prosecution would never withhold photographs relevant to the case! Lawyers would never be allowed to loom over a witness the way both sides do in this film. Jury selection would by each individual not en mass. I could go on but you get the idea.
Georgia O'Keeffe (2009)
Chicago is New York?!
Let me first state that I am a professor of Art history so my opinion should carry some weight. Having said that, the actual story of O'Keeffe and Stieglitz is told rather faithfully. My complaint stems from the sloppy production. The opening scene sets the tone: New York 1916 is actually Chicago 2009! You can see the flag of Chicago hanging on one of the buildings! Also O'Keeffe was not in New York until 1918. The cars, hats and hemlines are all from the '20s (like we wouldn't notice).
The second time we see "New York " it's the Chicago Board of Trade complete with the Rookery on the left! Lazy, sloppy production. You couldn't find any stock footage of NYC?
Empire Games (2018)
That's not Caesar!
Glossing over hundreds of years of istory and showing random portraits of the wrong people is doing a great disservice to your audience. We watched episode one (Rome) and my biggest complaint is the portraits shown were rarely the person being discussed at the time. Mispronunciations were rampant i.e. Pompey (Pom-pee) was pronounced "Pom-pay" like the town. Important facts were omitted such as Marc Antony was married to Octavian's sister, the perfect excuse for attacking the bigimistic couple as an affront to Roman virtue. Not to mention the fact that Antony was giving away Roman provinces to his bastard children as birthday presents. I could go on but you get the idea.
Passengers (2016)
Stupid Engineering
The designers of this spacecraft were complete idiots. Sure put the crew in stasis but why not have an android maintenance crew? The only android aboard is the bartender?!
