Mother! (2017)
Sickening
Art doesn't need to be this brutal to get a message accross. We get the allegory. The rest is the director's own sick vision. Thank you for putting these horrendous images into people's mind. After crossing a certain point the effect of disturbing art becomes just as harmful as real events. Humans might be vile and killing nature, but this kind of movies don't serve as a cautionary tale but add to the corruption. I also don't get how the director dares to preach when probably he has a bigger ecological footprint that normal folks. I will boycott his movies for the rest of my life. It should be banned.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
A Star Wars movie for everyone
I saw the film yesterday in the cinema and it was pretty much the first time I liked a Star Wars movie - but not as a Star Wars movie. It was clearly made for profit, lacks depth as a story and the (Star Wars) references stand out so weirdly, that at times it becomes purely comical, almost as if it was a parody of the franchise. I can see why it will be hard for fans to appreciate it, as for me, who was never a Star Wars fan, meant good entertainment. I went to the movies expecting easily digestible fun and that is exactly what I got. To me it wasn't any different than any other sci-fi/adventure blockbuster like Avengers or even Deadpool. I liked the comical aspects of it and I think the casting was done well. If you're expecting an epic Star Wars universe, this movie will leave you disappointed - there were times when I even had to remind myself that I'm watching a Star Wars movie. Still, it's all good fun!
Bridget Jones's Baby (2016)
Tasteless
No movie should get a rating higher than 1 star, that makes a joke about genocide. It's neither smart, neither funny, it's just completely tasteless and awkward. I for one certainly don't believe, that movies necessarily need to have a positive message, but laughing over genocide is just too awful to appreciate anything else that this movie might offers.
Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010)
The misuse of psychedelics in Western culture
I had a hard time liking this movie and it most certainly left me confused. However, it stayed with me. It's definitely one of those films that you will remember for a long time, well, at least I do. If you think of it as an allegory for the rude and dangerous ego trip that most hippies were spiralling in back in the sixties (and today), it certainly deserves more praise. It can be understood as the lack of understanding and forgiveness, ego, hiding as love, that has no true benefits for humanity but the very opposite. To me this movie represents everything that is wrong with hippie or new wave culture, and any excluded groups, that uses psychedelics in an arrogant, misunderstood way. As for the technicalities, the film also offers exceptional visuals and soundtracks, if you're a fan of Blade Runner, Daft Puck or Dario Argento, you'll might enjoy it.
The Shannara Chronicles (2016)
Sickening
Absolutely disgusted by the sexual references, torture and rape scenes. In now way these belong to a show like this.. To me, the creators of this show are nothing but corrupts of the fantasy genre. Same goes to Game of Thrones and others. Way to ruin an otherwise interesting world and story line. I'm so sick and fed up with gore everywhere.
