Domino (2005)
I loved this movie
I thought this movie was a wild ride. I loved it. It was great fun to watch Keira Knightly in this role. I thought she was very convincing. It is shot in a very different style but I thought it fit very well with the movie. Based on a real person but obviously not a completely accurate portrayal of Domino. I thought it was a great movie. The three main characters and their relationships with each other were very engaging.Domino is not your typical female character. The sexual tension between "Domino and Choco is entertaining. No, it's not totally believable but if you are looking for some fun entertainment this is a great movie. I say give it a chance. See it and enjoy.
Gone with the Wind (1939)
Timeless
The people who have made negative comments about this movie have probably not read the book. I don't think I've seen a movie that so closely follows a book. Yes, there are some minor differences but Margaret Mitchell wrote a book with some wonderful characters and they are definitely brought to life in this movie. I don't think the casting could have been any better. Yes, Scarlett is annoying and spoiled but that is exactly how she is in the book. Clark Gable is Rhett Butler. Perfect. He is exactly as he is described in the book also. The supporting character/actors are also excellent. I've watched other older movies and find it hard to get into them, but I don't have that problem with this movie. That could be because I love the book and watching this is just like reading the book. The look of the movie doesn't seem that old fashioned. Perhaps that is because it is not about special effects but about the characters and they are what bring this movie and story to life. This is one great story. If you haven't...... SEE IT!!!!!!
Kingdom Hospital (2004)
Bizarre!
Unlike most eveyone who has commented I have not seen the original. I will try to find it and watch it someday. In the meantime, I have found this series to be intriguing. All the reasons people don't like are what keep drawing me back. I want to find out more about these strange people and this place. It is very quirky, what with the giant anteater and hearing the animal thoughts. It is very strange and so I keep tuning in to see what happens next and what it is all about. Hopefully some of these questions will be answered by the end. I am liking it more and more and can't wait for next weeks show. If you like S. King and shows that are quirky and different tune in and give it a try. I hope you like it. I do.
Witchblade (2000)
intriguing and unique!
I will be the first to make comments in 2004. Let's keep the memory alive. I really enjoyed this show and fortunately I taped most of season 1 and season 2 on video. I have watched it over and over and only hope it gets released to dvd before my tapes wear out.
I never read the comics so my opinions are strictly about the tv series. I found this to be a very unique story. The witchblade is very mysterious and I love how it had a great history, using actual historical figures and events. I kept wondering if it truly existed. The characters are all wonderful. Sara is a strong, intelligent female lead character (and surrounded by all those hot men). I find the characters very intriguing and I had to keep tuning in every week just so I could figure out who everyone was and how they related to each other, especially Kenneth Irons and Nottingham. Nottingham is my very favorite character. A lethal person but with a lot of depth and torment. I have read all the other reviews about how bad the effects were, etc and I don't agree. I thought the show had a great "look". I thought the way the scenes were shot and the music and everything was excellent.
And even though they undid the whole first season in the finale they were able to come back with a second season that was as good as the first. I was sorry to see it end but hopefully whoever is in charge of making the decision will allow it to go to dvd so the fans can enjoy the series for all time.
Pearl Harbor (2001)
amazing movie
This movie, as many have stated is more like three movies in one. I think they are interwoven beautifully. The characters are all great and believable. Their situations seem real enough. The characters that really stand out for me are Josh Hartnett's Danny Walker, Kate Beckinsale's Evelyn and the actor who played Red. I enjoyed Alec Baldwin as Doolittle, also. I waited 2 years before I saw this movie and it is the human relationships that really drew me into the movie. Another story it follows is the build up of the Japanese attack. I thought that was very well done. And then of course there is the attack which is pretty amazing and realistic. All together this movie has a little bit of everything. I have been watching it over and over and over and have not tired of it yet. A number of people talk about the inaccuracy of the historical content. Seeing this movie has interested me in looking further into the event and they took some liberties but all in all I think they portrayed it fairly straight. I'm not sure why so many people seem to hate this movie but if you haven't seen it look past all their negative comments and give it a try. I think you'll like it. I sure do!
Queen of the Damned (2002)
Don't believe all the negative comments
I first saw this movie when it came out in the theatres and liked it well enough although I had just read the books so the differences were on my mind. Well, it has been a couple of years and I couldn't really remember all the details of the books so I watched the movie again. And again, and again and well, I'm still watching it. I LOVE this movie. Yes, I love the books and I have just reread all of them, but I still think this movie is great. Stuart Townsend really captures the attitude and essence of Lestat. I don't care that he doesn't exactly match the description in the book. He is beautiful. Yes, they left out a lot of parts of the books and if you watch the commentary on the dvd the director actually talks a lot about the differences and why they made the choices they did. I really think they did an excellent job with this movie. My second favorite character is Marius (yes, even though he doesn't match his description in the book and even if he truly was not Lestat's maker.) I've read all the negative comments and I just do not agree. I love the books but I love this movie for what it is. My favorite parts of the movie are the ones with Lestat and Jesse and they weren't even in the books!!!! but I don't care. They are some of the most seductive and witty parts of the movie. Hats off to the writers and director. If you can just take the movie for what it is and not worry about how it differs from the books, then you should check it out. I think you will enjoy it. I sure do.
The Crow: City of Angels (1996)
Not a bad Sequel
I saw this movie when it came out in the theatre and I admit I didn't have much interest because the first one was so awesome and Brandon was gone. I just watched it again and actually thought it is pretty good. It has dawned on me that the crow is about people coming back for revenge or redemption and Brandon as Eric Draven had accomplishe that in the first movie so there really wouldn't be any reason for him to stick around. It makes sense that some other victim would return. This movie did not have the depth or emotion the first one had but Vincent Perez did a fine job and the girl they picked to play Sara was perfect. All in all I would say this movie is worth watching at least once. It is very dark and similar to the first movie. The soundtrack is not as good as the first but the movie is worth watching.
Forever Lulu (2000)
Come along for the ride
I recommend this movie to everyone. I think the actors all put in solid performances and were all believable in their characters. Melanie does an excellent job of portraying someone mentally ill and Penelope Ann Miller does a great job as the wife. Patrick proves he doesn't need to be in an "action" role, but can play a serious character also. The best scenes are when the three of them are interacting. I am glad I found out about this movie on the Imdb because I would have missed out otherwise. It is too bad this movie did not get more (or any) media attention because a lot of people are going to miss out on a great story.
Anna and the King (1999)
This is a wonderful movie
I wanted to see more Chow Yun Fat but not in a gunfu role, and this movie fit the bill. It has beautiful scenery, sets and costumes and the characters are wonderful. Jodie Foster was great as usual and CYF did a great job in a dramatic and romantic role. The movie tells a great story.I viewed it on DVD and really enjoyed the extra features, with a commentary by the director. If you are a fan of CYF and can handle him in a non action role, give this movie a try.
Dip huet seung hung (1989)
a very gut-wrenching film
That is the best way to describe this film. Yes, it is violent but you really get involved with all the characters and their relationships with each other. This movie has one of the most tragic scenes I have ever experienced in a film, with two people blindly groping to find one another. You'll have to see the movie to find out what I mean. I had a bonus, I rented the DVD and it has commentary by John Woo which was very fascinating. I highly recommend this movie.
Sat sau ji wong (1998)
Something a bit different from Jet Li
This movie has a different feel for Jet Li. He's more an actor in this than a martial arts star. His character is great and quite funny at times. There is a pretty good story line. You get to hear Jet Li's own voice in this one. This is apparently the last Hong Kong film he made. Hopefully he will make some more. I say, check this movie out!
Siu ngo gong woo: Dung Fong Bat Bai (1992)
a fantastic fantasy movie
I absolutely love this movie. It has great special effects. The story is kind of hard to follow at first so it should be seen at least 2 times. I'm a big Jet Li fan and this is a great character for him. Not what you are used to seeing from him. See this film and ENJOY!
Yi tin to lung gei: Moh gaau gaau jue (1993)
This movie is loads of fun!
This is currently one of my favorite Jet Li movies. Most, if not all, of the fight scenes are enhanced, but it is such a fast moving, whacky movie, I really enjoy it.You'll need to watch it more than once because it has a lot of characters and the plot is somewhat confusing, not too mention you need to be a speed-reader to catch all the subtitles. I recommend this movie because it is loads of fun.
