Exclusive: Days before the world premiere of Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne’s feature directorial debut Am I Ok? at Sundance, Deadline has learned about the duo’s next feature project is Time and Space, which Judd Apatow will produce through his Apatow Productions.
Allynne will direct off a screenplay she wrote based on a story she conceived with her spouse Notaro. Emmy nominee and stand-up comic Notaro also will star in the project, which follows the life of a lesbian couple who are thrown into turmoil when they ditch their Los Angeles city life for upstate New York. Notaro and Allynne will produce through their production company, Something Fierce.
Time and Space reflects Notaro and Allynne’s interest in sophisticated, entertaining storytelling with universal appeal where there just happens to be gay characters and themes.
The duo conceived Time and Space during the pandemic, though the movie is not set during one.

Ahead of Horror Channel’s premiere of The Cleaning Lady on June 26th, the film’s star, writer and producer Alexis Kendra talks about playing a ‘Goddess’, coping with lockdown and why she can’t watch horror films on her own.
The Cleaning Lady is having its channel premiere on Horror Channel. Excited?
I love you guys. Always have, always will. I’m honoured.
It’s a very disturbing film, dealing with abuse, addiction and hidden rage, yet the characters are sympathetic and have real depth. It’s horror with a twisted heart. As a co-writer, alongside your director Jon Knautz, what were the main challenges in getting the balance right between acting and writing?
I compartmentalize real easy, so if I’m writing, I’m writing. If I’m acting I’m acting. I don’t really mix anything so it’s not that difficult. Keeps me in the present moment a lot.

Fox is launching its own Nft company, Blockchain Creative Labs, the company said on Monday as part of its upfront presentation. Blockchain Creative Labs, which will create, sell and manage NFTs, tokens and digital goods, will be launched in conjunction with Dan Harmon’s new series “Krapopolis.”
“Krapopolis” has the distinction of being the first-ever animated series curated entirely on the blockchain. Bento Box’s “Krapopolis” is an animated comedy set in mythical ancient Greece from Harmon. Centered on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.
NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are units of data stored on a digital ledger, called a blockchain, that certifies a digital asset to be unique and therefore not interchangeable.
Fox said it will launch a dedicated marketplace for “Krapopolis” that will “curate and sell digital goods, ranging from NFTs...

This week, broadcast networks and their streaming counterparts are showing advertisers and the general public what they’ve got for the upcoming season. While it’s far too early to judge the actual shows, a sense of promise — or of doubt — can be picked up from these early looks out of the upfronts presentations.
Here’s a look, in rough descending order, of how this critic is feeling about each show’s potential, first from NBCUniversal’s Peacock (trailers for NBC proper have yet to be released), then Fox.

NBCUniversal’s trailers for its Peacock dramas tended towards a polish and professionalism. “The Lost Symbol” is impressive simply because of the names involved alone — an adaptation of the work of Dan Brown, produced, as were the Tom Hanks movies including “The Da Vinci Code,” by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. While many networks have been forthcoming with decisions for the bulk of their scripted series, Fox has been holding its cards close to its chest.
The network has now announced that 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star and The Resident will be a part of its 2021-22 TV schedule.
9-1-1 has been renewed for Season 5, Lone Star for Season 3, and The Resident for Season 5.
Of those shows, the 9-1-1 franchise was a lock to remain a part of the network's lineup next season.
While holding up very well, the Resident was on the bubble due to the limited slots on the network.
Both 9-1-1 and The Resident will be keeping their current slots in the fall, while Lone Star has been shifted to midseason.
Mondays this fall will consist of 9-1-1 and the Scott Foley-Teri Polo dramedy, The Big Leap.

Fox announced its fall schedule Monday, revealing that “9-1-1” universe fans will no longer be enjoying the shows back to back in the first half of the 2021-22 season, as spinoff “9-1-1: Lone Star” has been pushed to midseason.
Mondays this fall will still be anchored by “9-1-1” at 8 p.m., but will lead into the new Scott Foley-led drama “The Big Leap” in the 9 o’clock slot. However, that freshman series will wrap by midseason, when “Lone Star” will take over the “9-1-1” slot. Then the “9-1-1” series will be reunited, airing back to back once more, come March.
Fox’s Tuesdays are also seeing a change in pairings, following the recent cancellation of “Prodigal Son.” The now-renewed “The Resident” will keep its 8 o’clock hour, with the first season of Lee Daniels’ drama “Our Kind of People” closing primetime from 9-10.

Fox has given a straight-to-series orders to a drama series that hails from David Shore, Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, Variety has learned.
The series, titled “Accused,” is based on the BBC series of the same name that aired from 2010-2012. The Fox version is slated to debut during the 2022-2023 broadcast season.
“We take great pride in Fox’s legacy of bold risk taking and inventive storytelling,” said Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment. “Howard, Alex and David are an important part of that history and working with them on ‘Accused’ takes us back to our roots, literally. They are tremendous artists responsible for some of the most important and beloved series ever on television, and it’s a joy to once again bet on their creative brilliance.”

“Accused” is a crime anthology where each episode opens in a courtroom on the accused without knowing their crime or how they ended up on trial.

Can someone start a #SaveProdigalSon campaign, please?
It was only speculation a few days ago as Fox began doling out orders for new shows, but now, our worst fears are coming to fruition.
Prodigal Son has been canceled a week before its second season finale, now the series finale.
Fans of the show know what a mistake this is, but outlets report that the ratings didn't justify a third season.
So, while I'd like to place all of the blame at Fox's feet, ratings do still matter, and waiting for an entire season to air before watching great television doesn't do anybody any favors -- least of all, the shows themselves.
Tom Payne's Malcolm Bright has been just that -- a bright spot on what can feel like a very blase broadcast special these days.

Fox has opted not to renew drama Prodigal Son for a third season. It is unclear yet whether leading studio Warner Bros TV would be shopping the series elsewhere. Sibling streamer HBO Max, which has previous seasons of Prodigal Son, would be a logical destination for the serialized serial killer drama.
Sophomore Prodigal Son, co-produced by Fox Entertainment, was a true bubble show. It was the last Fox drama to get a renewal last year, a move that didn’t come until after the upfronts, and it came down to the wire again for the series. It was liked creatively at the network, and there was a will to try and find a path to bring the series back, with various scenarios explored.
Its linear ratings were pretty modest — Prodigal Son was the lowest-rated among the current Fox drama series — but it has been doing well in digital viewing. The remaining three Fox drama series,...

The network on Monday placed a series order for Pivoting, a new comedy series that follows three women after the death of their childhood best friend.

Eliza Coupe, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Maggie Q are set to lead the series.
Coupe (Happy Endings) is set to play cooking show producer Amy, who wants to spend more time with her children.
Goodwin is on board as Jodie, a mom who escapes her husband by having an affair with her gym teacher.
Q will play Sarah, a doctor who divorces her cheating wife and takes up a job working at a supermarket.

Fox has picked up to series Pivoting, its half-hour single-camera comedy pilot headlined by Eliza Coupe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Maggie Q. The project, written and executive produced by Liz Astrof, hails from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Warner Bros TV and Fox Entertainment.
Pivoting was the last of the produced 2020 Fox pilots whose fate had not been decided. Additionally, Fox handed orders to both of its straight-to-series dramas, which had opened writers rooms, Our Kind Of People and Monarch.

The untitled “Goonies” reenactment pilot and “Blood Relative” are no longer moving ahead at Fox, Variety has learned.
The two projects were holdovers from Fox’s 2020 pilot season that were delayed in shooting due to the pandemic. The decision to ax “Blood Relative” comes as something of a surprise, given that it starred Oscar winner Melissa Leo in the lead role. The move also comes as Fox has given out two series orders from its drama pilot slate already: one for “The Cleaning Lady” starring Elodie Yung and another for the dance drama “The Big Leap.”
Fox has also ordered an animated comedy set in ancient Greece from Dan Harmon, the drama “Our Kind of People” from Karin Gist and Lee Daniels, and the mockumentary series “This County.”

Fox has made its new drama series pickup decisions for the 2021-21 season, going with two projects that came through the network’s recently adopted straight-to-series development model involving the opening of a writers room, Our Kind of People and Monarch, and two 2020 pilots whose production had been pushed by the pandemic, The Big Leap and The Cleaning Lady.
That leaves two other 2020 hourlong pilots, Blood Relative and The Goonies-themed Film Reenactment Project. Both are getting a pass.
As Deadline reported earlier this week, The Film Reenactment Project — previously known as Untitled The Goonies Reenactment Project, about a woman who helps three students who are making a shot-for-shot remake of The Goonies — played a little too young for Fox.

Fox has ordered yet another new drama for the 2021-22 broadcast season, and we're beginning to get a little antsy about some of our favorite shows.
The Hollywood Reporter has been all over the Fox schedule today, and if history is indicative of future results, we might be hearing from the network about pickups or cancellations very soon.
The latest pickup is a country music drama titled Monarch from Melissa London Hilfers with showrunner Michael Rauch.
While Hilfers is a newcomer, Rauch is well-known to TV Fanatic readers for his work on Royal Pains.
According to THR, Monarch "is described as a Texas-sized, multigenerational musical drama about America’s first family of country music.

Fox is getting further into the country music scene. The network has handed a series order to Monarch, formerly known as the Untitled Country Music Dynasty drama, from Melissa London Hilfers.
Hilfers created the series, which I hear is getting a 12-episode order, and will write and exec produce, while Instinct creator and Royal Pains exec producer Michael Rauch, who supervised the writers room for the oroject, will act as showrunner and exec producer. Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady also exec produce alongside Sandbox Entertainment’s Jason Owen, a leading country music manager who represents the likes of Faith Hill, Little Big Town and Kacey Musgraves. Some of Owen’s clients and friends are expected to be appearing and performing on the show.
The hour-long project comes out of the network’s script-to-series model that utilizes a writers room, the same one that birthed Karin Gist and Lee Daniels’ Our Kind of People.

Fox has ordered the country music drama series “Monarch” for the 2021-2022 broadcast season from executive producer and creator Melissa London Hilfers. The show, formerly known as “Untitled Country Music Dynasty,” will feature original songs and covers.
Per the logline, the one-hour drama is a Texas-sized, multigenerational musical drama about America’s first family of country music. The Romans are fiercely talented, but while their name is synonymous with honesty, the very foundation of their success is a lie. When their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, Nicky Roman, the heir to the crown, already battling an industry stacked against her, will stop at nothing to protect her family’s legacy.
“Monarch,” wholly owned by Fox Entertainment, joins “Our Kind of People” as the network’s first two series to bypass a pilot order by advancing straight to a writers’ room commitment and subsequently be ordered to series.

“The Cleaning Lady” is based on the Argentinian series ““La Chica Que Limpia.” Along with Yung, the show stars Adam Canto in the role of Arman, Martha Millan in the role of Fiona, and twins Sebastien and Valentino Lasalle, who will share the role of Luca.
Miranda Kwok serves as writer and executive producer, with Melissa Carter executive producing and serving as showrunner.

Fox already has made decisions on all of its animated comedies, canceling Bless the Harts and renewing the other shows — veterans The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers as well as freshman The Great North.
The network has not made any renewal decision on the live-action side besides setting end date for veteran sitcom Last Man Standing. Pending are pickups for Fox’s two top-rated scripted series, 9-1-1 and spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star. Also certain to get renewed is freshman comedy series Call Me Kat, starring Mayim Bialik.
Cancellations/Renewals Scorecard: TV Shows Ended Or Continuing In 2020-21 Season
While technically a bubble show, The Resident continues to be a solid performer, drawing Fox’s largest scripted series audience behind the 9-1-1 franchise and is fully expected to be renewed for a fifth season, I hear. Negotiations for the medical drama and the 9-1-1 shows...

Scott Foley and Teri Polo are taking a big leap to Fox.
Fox on Wednesday ordered to series a one-hour drama called The Big Leap.
The series was originally ordered to pilot last year, but it was scuppered due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The project is inspired by the UK docuseries Big Ballet and follows a group of diverse, down-on-their-luck characters attempting to change their lives by participating in a potentially life-ruining reality dance show that builds to a live production of Swan Lake.
What this group of underdogs lack in dance training, they make up for with their edge, wit, and desire to reimagine an iconic story to fit their own mold.
The Big Leap is a modern tale about second chances and chasing your dreams and taking back what’s yours.
The cast includes Scott Foley, Simone Recasner, Ser’Darius Blain, Jon Rudnitsky, Raymond Cham Jr., Mallory Jansen, Kevin Daniels,...
