A new trailer for the upcoming docuseries “Trans in Trumpland” opens with ominous music as Donald Trump is heard in voiceover saying, “I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens.”
There’s no question that Trump, who was impeached for a second time on Wednesday, did not fulfill his promise. In fact, LGBTQ activists rightfully argue that Trump used his power to roll back the rights and protections of trans Americans.
For the four-part “Trans in Trumpland,” director Tony Zosherafatain traveled to the red states of North Carolina, Texas, Mississippi and Idaho throughout the last four years to document the experiences of four trans individuals during the Trump presidency.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the life of a trans woman who was held at a men’s Ice detention center. Zosherafatain is also seen showing photos of himself at age 12 to a trans high schooler.

Throughout his tenure as America’s most provocative political filmmaker, Michael Moore has had more successes than failures; “Roger & Me,” “Bowling for Columbine,” and “Fahrenheit 9/11” were all high points. The Donald Trump presidency seems to have stretched his creativity a bit thin; his live stage show taping from 2016, “Michael Moore in Trumpland,” provided a few laughs and nothing more. A Broadway show, however, has its own challenges, and Moore is learning this the hard way after a scathing review in The New York Times.

You’ll have noticed by now that Michael Moore is no fan of Donald Trump. The filmmaking firebrand, whose repeated warnings that Trump could be elected were frequently mocked, looks poised to devote even more energy and attention to 45 than he did to George W. Bush. His latest is the music video for Prophets of Rage’s “Unfuck the World,” which prominently features the current occupant of the White House. Watch below.

Michael Moore is prepping a new documentary about President Donald Trump called Fahrenheit 11/9, Variety reports. The film's title refers to the date of Trump's election and is also a play on Moore's scathing 2004 film about George W. Bush and the Iraq War, Fahrenheit 9/11.
Moore has reportedly been working on the film in secret for months and hopes it will help puncture Trump's seemingly impenetrable armor. "No matter what you throw at him, it hasn't worked," Moore said. "No matter what is revealed, he remains standing. Facts, reality, brains cannot defeat him.

Michael Moore has made his….dislike….of Donald Trump quite clear. He’s long been one of the most vocal opponents to the current President Of the United States, and last fall, even knocked out a quickie documentary of his one-man show, “Michael Moore In TrumpLand” (it wasn’t that great). But now he’s going to go a bit deeper, and hit Trump a little bit harder.
Moore is currently filming “Fahrenheit 11/9,” a flip on the title of his acclaimed “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which obviously references the election month which saw Trump take power.

America tends to have a problem with guns. While the United Kingdom correctly banned handguns after its first and only school shooting, the United States has yet to understand the correlation with mass shootings and gun ownership.
Nonetheless, documentary filmmaker Michael Moore is set on controlling guns even after he hoped his film Bowling for Columbine would curb America’s obsession with the weapon.
At the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, Moore was in attendance to screen his film as part of Tribeca’s “Retrospective” film series. The event occurred on April 20, 2017, exactly 18 years after the Columbine Massacre, where two students brought 99 explosives and more than double that many rounds of ammunition – resulting in the death of thirteen and injury of 21 students and teachers. The film’s title refers to the perpetrators’ choice to skip their French philosophy class and instead go bowling.

While that sounds extremely ambitious, it’s worth noting that no large-scale production has ever taken aim at a U.S. sitting president quite like this. Here are five important things to keep in mind as Moore prepares for his Broadway debut.

Yesterday, the Academy announced one of their long lists, whittling down the Best Animated Feature contenders to just 15 finalists. They went from an initial listing of 145 titles, making this comparatively a very short list. It consists of all of the year’s big contenders, as you’ll see shortly, but it also has relatively few snubs. I’ll get into that momentarily, but that’s a nice change of pace. This is always somewhat of a crapshoot, category wise, so knowing there’s a ton of quality here is never a bad thing at all. Anyway, this is more information to take into account when doing your Oscar predictions. The puzzle is slowly coming together, ladies and gentlemen! Nothing too unexpected was left off this list, though Leonardo Dicaprio and Fisher Stevens’ Before the Flood, Werner Herzog’s Into the Inferno, Ron Howard’s The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years,...

On Sunday morning, filmmaker Michael Moore went on CNN’s “State of the Union” show to discuss the aftermath of the election with Jake Tapper. First, Moore said that FBI director James Comey was partially to blame for Clinton’s loss and suggested that President Obama appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Comey’s actions. Moore then went on to criticize the “benign neglect” of the Democratic Party towards working class people and their needs, especially in regards to his home state of Michigan. Then, Tapper played a recent tape of Oprah saying that the image of Obama and Trump in the White House gave her hope and asked for Moore’s response. He said that the Democrats would have been better off with her as their presidential candidate.

Michael Moore says that Donald Trump’s recent victory will lead to a massive resistance from people all across the nation. The filmmaker, who appeared on Friday’s MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” sat down with the show’s host and contributors to speak about what went wrong, what’s next for the country, and how to move forward.
Moore began talking about how Trump supporters came out strong to the polls and how Bernie Sanders, when he was campaigning, won in some states that Hillary Clinton lost.
“The reason Bernie [Sanders] won and Trump won Michigan, as you’ve been talking about in this election, people wanted change,” Moore stated. “That’s the reason why Bernie won 22 states. How else can you explain that a socialist [won]? This is not a socialist country. How did a socialist win 22 states?”

Michael Moore warned that a Donald Trump presidential win was very likely months ago through essays, interviews and even his surprise film Michael Moore in TrumpLand. Moore laid out five reasons why Trump would win on his website back in July. He wrote that Trump needed only to focus on blue states Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania and noted his theory of "The Last Stand of the Angry White Man." "There is a sense that the power has slipped out of their hands, that their way of doing things is no longer how things are done," Moore wrote. "This monster,

Gianfranco Rosi with Anne-Katrin Titze on Boatman at the Brooklyn Academy of Music: "I remember when Jim Jarmusch saw this film many years ago, he thought this film was shot in the Fifties ..." Photo: Emilie Spiegel
Gianfranco Rosi and I met for the first time at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in 2014 for a conversation on Sacro Gra and last month we had a post-screening discussion on the opening weekend for his latest film, Italy's Oscar submission, Fire At Sea (Fuocoammare), at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas, now playing side-by-side with Michael Moore's Hillary Clinton plaidoyer, Michael Moore In Trumpland, two days before the Presidential election.
Gopal in Boatman: "So the film is this hypothetical day on the Ganges. As I say, it took forever."

“Loving” (Focus), anticipated since its Cannes premiere as one of the top specialized releases of the fall, opened ahead of nearly all platform films of the year in New York and Los Angeles. Boasting glowing reviews and director/cast pedigree, its $42,000 per theater average puts it on par with similar early November releases. Reaching this number was far certain despite its significant attention.
It will have some way to go to match the incredible continued results for “Moonlight” (A24), which continues to be sensational early in its run. Though still limited, it still shows per theater results above any similar successes earlier this year, including high-end indies “Hell or High Water” and “Eye in the Sky.”
Opening
“Loving” (Focus) – Metacritic: 77; Festivals include: Cannes, Toronto 2016
$169,000 in theaters; PTA (per theater average): $42,250
Jeff Nichols’ well-received and awards-positioned retelling of the famous legal case that ended biracial marriage bans in the 1960s...

It came as no surprise in October that Michael Moore’s secret documentary “Michael Moore in Trumpland” was a pro-Hillary Clinton film urging Americans to vote for the democratic presidential nominee on November 8. Moore has been one of the most vocal and politically active filmmakers of his generation, if not the most active, and he felt that too much of the election conversation was dominated by negativity.

“I just thought, I’m going to do something here and give people positive reasons to think about voting for her,” Moore said at the film’s premiere in New York on October 18. “What the country doesn’t need is to be told that Trump is crazy, dangerous, a psychopath and sociopath. He has written and produced that movie, and it appears daily.”

MaryAnn’s quick take…
The filmmaker presents a standup-comedy case for Hillary Clinton for president, not as a fan of Clinton but as a patriot worried about the state of America. I’m “biast” (pro): love Michael Moore
I’m “biast” (con): hate Donald Trump
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
It’s not quite a documentary; it’s more of a concert movie. Michael Moore in TrumpLand is just a recording of a one-man standup political-comedy routine. It’s not even polished, either as a performance or as a presentation. But that was never intended to be the point. This is simply 75 minutes of Moore — a filmmaker who has long been both passionately patriotic about America and passionately angry about the state of the nation — presenting his case for Hillary Clinton for president. Not as a fan of Clinton — as Moore says, he’s...

It’s safe to say that filmmaker Michael Moore has made his choice this election year very, very plain. After all, the “Bowling for Columbine” and “Fahrenheit 9/11” director somehow found the time to create, film and release a spectacularly anti-Donald Trump film (that would be “Michael Moore in TrumpLand”) in the space of mere weeks, and he’s spent the last few weeks quite loudly stumping for Hillary Clinton for president.
The always-outspoken Moore has also spent plenty of time talking up politics — specifically focused on the presidential race — on a variety of other mediums outside of his own filmmaking, from his blog and social media platforms to The Huffington Post, amongst other outlets. Moore, as ever, has something to say, but over the weekend, the filmmaker was taken to major task for a series of Twitter comments that came from a seemingly supportive, yet woefully uniformed place. And he paid for it.

With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Complete Unknown (Joshua Marston)
Armed with two top-notch leads and a compelling premise, Joshua Marston‘s third feature, Complete Unknown, spends a lot of time hinting at which direction it will go, without going anywhere at all. Tom (Michael Shannon) is living with his wife Rehema (Azita Ghanizada) in New York City, spending the majority of his days drafting agricultural policy emails in a cramped government office. It is...

There is plenty to discuss in a weekend where Lionsgate's Boo! A Madea Halloween is crowned champion of the largest three-day weekend the 2016 box office has seen in over two months. Boo!, along with fellow new releases Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Ouija: Origin of Evil and Keeping Up with the Joneses, generated 61.6% of the top twelve's overall gross of nearly $114 million, up 28% from last weekend and up 20% from last year. The weekend also saw a stellar opening for A24's Moonlight in limited release, delivering the largest opening per theater average of the year, and there are plenty of overseas results to discuss. Topping the weekend box office, Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween brought in a stellar $27.6 million from 2,260 theaters ($12,212 PTA), the largest opening for a Madea branded feature and for a Tyler Perry-directed film overall since 2009's Madea Goes to Jail. As far as Madea-branded titles are concerned,...

What a weekend. Barry Jenkins' Moonlight full-on smashed the Specialty box office with the year's best opening per theater average, grossing $414,740 in four theaters. Michael Moore in TrumpLand came out of nowhere and opened Wednesday in two theaters, grabbing the year's best PTA for a non-fiction title. Magnolia's Korean thriller The Handmaiden would easily have grabbed the headline in any other weekend, with its $91,600 bow in five theaters. And for more weekend brag…...
