We put another season with the Intelligence Unit behind us.
Unfortunately, Chicago Pd Season 11 was not exempt from the Dual-Strike effect on the writing of many of our favorite series.
The return has been rough, something we've acknowledged and lamented as our favorite series couldn't quite transition back into truncated seasons with ease.
Chicago Pd, like many other series, fell into the same bad habits of trying to cram too much content into a shortened season, dropping storylines, or sidelining characters.
And as One Chicago fans, in particular, know, the cast cutbacks that have resulted in less screen time for many of our favorite characters were more pronounced than ever during this season.
The rotating centrics also proved more tiresome and frustrating than ever during the season.
Plus, with it serving as Hailey Upton's Departure season, the series' favorite character, who often monopolizes a lot of narrative space and screen time,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 7 “The Living and the Dead.”] The serial offender Intelligence is after on Chicago P.D. might have just made a major mistake because there’s no way that Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) won’t track him down now. Though Voight took in one of his victims, the offender was able to trick him into a trap, and the latest episode ends with the discovery of a barrel with Noah and his boyfriend’s bodies inside. We’ve been hearing about the “old Voight rage” coming back, and now we know why. Below, Beghe previews what’s next. The episode ends with Voight seeing Noah and Paul’s bodies in the barrel. How does he handle that? Jason Beghe: He feels like he failed, but I believe that some things are too hard to confront. And so what happens is—I don’t know if it reads or ...

[This story contains spoilers from season 11, episode seven of Chicago P.D, “The Living and the Dead.”]
For Sergeant Hank Voight, played by Jason Beghe, the proverb “the road to hell is paved with good intensions” comes to a painful, climatic conclusion during the final scene of Chicago Pd’s March 20 episode, “The Living and the Dead.” The seventh episode in season 11 of the NBC drama ends with a stoic look from the conflicted police detective, as a barrel is pulled from a body of water that contains someone he cared for and tried to protect.
Since the murder of his son, Justin (Josh Segarra), in season three, Voight has worn that death like an albatross, spurring him throughout the seasons to take a special interest in certain brutalized victims in the city who are treated as castoffs. In episode seven, audiences watch Voight hunt for a kidnapper who tortured and mutilated a gay teenage boy named Noah (Bobby Hogan), who was introduced in episode six.

It’s also worth noting that she shares the screen with Tracy Spiridakos, who is leaving the show this season.

Chicago P.D. is now on hiatus after an episode focusing on Hank Voight.
Voight was reminded of his son several times that night, beginning with a bartender giving him an old picture of Justin.
The victim in the case also reminded Voight of his son, leading to him putting in extra work to close it.
Though Voight wasn’t able to figure out who kidnapped and tortured a boy named Noah, viewers learned in the final scene that Voight had Noah living with him.
Chicago P.D. will likely address the case again later, but it won’t be until weeks after the ongoing hiatus at NBC.
Even though the One Chicago shows finally returned this winter after missing many months, the shows are taking a long break in March.

A sci-fi comedy by Mel Eslyn and a literary noir by Alice Troughton – who are, respectively, the longtime producer for the Duplass brothers and an award-winning UK television director — debut in limited release this weekend, alongside Adele Lim’s Joy Ride, a Lionsgate wide-release – marking first-time feature film debuts by three women.
(Noting that Chelsea Peretti’s recent Tribeca-premiering film First Time Female Director sort of re-coined that phrase.)
Troughton called it “really reassuring” to see female helmers opening films. In the UK “we are below 20% of the directing force and … directorial women’s roles are dropping, as are roles for people of color. So the diversity is sort of slacking off a bit after a really good push. So it felt really important as somebody who had the privilege to be in the position to go and make a film, to go and do it.

If you’re going to remake a movie, why not remake one of the most acclaimed movies ever made?
Paramount Pictures has preemptively acquired a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 classic psychological thriller “Vertigo,” as a possible starring vehicle for Robert Downey Jr. The actor is producing the project with his wife Susan Downey through their Team Downey production company, along with John Davis and John Fox via Davis Entertainment.
“Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight is set to write the script, hot on the heels of his commitment to write an untitled “Star Wars” movie for Lucasfilm, as Variety reported on Wednesday.
Downey has kept a low profile as an actor since the release of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” which is one of the highest grossing movies ever made, and 2020’s “Dolittle,” which is not. He produced and appears in the documentary “Sr.,” about his father, and he’s next set...

Neil Forsyth’s The Gold is a true crime drama with a distinctive perspective. As much as it’s about the cat-and-mouse chase between the robbers of £26 million’s worth of gold bullion in November 1983, and the special task force trying to catch them, it’s also about the British class system. Over six episodes (airing weekly on BBC One and available as a box-set on BBC iPlayer), Forsyth tells a story about villains on both sides of the social divide and the entrenched systems protecting those at the top. His London is just as veined with establishment corruption, freemasonry and snobbery as it is with armed robbers, hooky fences and locals who keep their mouths shut for fear of reprisal.
The ensemble drama covers the period from the 1983 robbery, then the largest gold heist in British history, to the investigation and sentencing of select ring leaders. The story, as the newspapers show,...

Though it originally ran for just six episodes in 2004, the U.K. TV series “Garth Merenghi’s Darkplace” — an inspired spoof of supernatural anthology shows, among other things — has acquired a still-growing cult following. Its principal collaborators have all forged interesting careers since, with two recently making their feature writing-directing debuts. Released last year, cast member Alice Lowe’s “Prevenge” was a macabre piece about a unbalanced woman who starts believing her unborn child is ordering her to kill. “Darkplace” co-creator/star Matthew Holness’ new “Possum” is also about madness, being a psychological horror in which nearly all the terrors (both seen and unseen) may simply be figments of a severely withdrawn protagonist’s haunted imagination.
In script terms, Holness straddles the line between “minimalist” and “underdeveloped.” There are times when it feels like “Possum” (named after a creepy children’s rhyme much recited here) would have had its slender...

Samuel Goldwyn Films is set to release Xavier Gens' Cold Skin this September. This film, which was influenced by H.P. Lovecraft's work on The Shadow Over Innsmouth, involves a remote lighthouse and the two men who work there. Every night, something attacks from the nearby shoreline. Also, this film was produced from Sánchez Piñol’s 2007 novel, with the screenplay written by Jesus Como (28 Weeks Later) and Eron Sheean. The film stars: Ray Stevenson, David Oakes ("The Living and the Dead") and Aura Garrido. Samuel Goldwyn Films has just released the film's official trailer and poster. Both items can be found here. The trailer shows many of the creatures from the film. Looking like some sort of mermen, these creatures have blue skin and appear hairless. The two men, living on the island, approach the creatures in two different ways. This leads to more conflict as these monsters gather outside of the lighthouse.

After a decade of failed development plans, Brian K. Vaughn and Pia ‘s “Y: The Last Man” has a real chance of reaching the screen. FX recently ordered a pilot episode for the post-apocalyptic drama, with Michael Green and Aida Mashaka (“Luke Cage”) as co-showrunners and Melina Matsoukas set to direct.
“Y: The Last Man” follows the story of escape artist Yorick Brown after a sudden plague kills everything on the planet with a Y chromosome — except for him and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand. As society crumbles, Yorick sets out to find what killed off all the men. During its 60-issue run, the series explored race, gender, and sexuality, winning three Eisner awards.
With a set cast yet to be announced for the upcoming adaptation, we put together some suggestions for actors who could live up to the increasing hype around the long-awaited adaptation.

The BBC has confirmed that it won't be bringing back The Living And The Dead, feat. Colin Morgan and Charlotte Spencer...
BBC supernatural period drama The Living And The Dead won't be returning for a second series, Digital Spy has revealed. A BBC spokesperson explained the decision was taken "in order to create room for new series and to keep increasing the range of drama on BBC One".
The story of Nathan and Charlotte Appleby, forward-thinking Victorians who move to Nathan's childhood Somerset home where they encounter spookiness untold, didn't need a second series. One of the drama's few real disappointments in fact, was the series-two enabling coda tacked on to the finale.
Not being renewed by no means detracts from all The Living And The Dead achieved in its six episodes. It was beautifully made, a master of atmosphere and brilliantly cast. Its leads Colin Morgan...

Strong performances by Colin Morgan and Charlotte Spencer don’t quite rescue The Living And The Dead from a frustrating finale…
This review contains spoilers.
Since the classic Hammer-style opening minutes of episode one when a young Victorian girl in a white nightdress walked along a dark corridor lit only by candlelight, The Living And The Dead has been a tasteful thief of the horror genre. It’s chosen carefully from the established bag of tricks, making skilful use of scares and shocks to build a beautifully eerie, quite distinct atmosphere.
Ultimately though, its finale borrowed horror’s most frustrating, dissatisfying habits. To serve the scares, people behaved in maddening ways (parenting rule number one: don’t take your baby to a haunted suicide house). To serve the exposition, the dialogue felt clumsily explanatory (“I want to stop it from haunting me, the thing that haunted my mother,...

Ghostbusting doesn’t make Nathan Appleby feel good in the penultimate episode of The Living And The Dead…
This review contains spoilers.
The Living And The Dead delivered the perfect Halloween special this week. Episode five was a typically handsome hour (is there a better-looking show on at the moment?) dripping with classic horror moments.
It was the week that saw Shepzoy’s sceptics get what for. Spirits rampaged around the village dripping ghost-blood on the carpets and sending the locals scattering. Even the most rational-minded villager couldn’t convince themselves that a murderous troupe of dead Civil War soldiers was just a trick of the light.
Reverend Denning, for one, was shaken out of his existential certainty by a levitating daughter and a ghostly forest fire (you’d think a man of the cloth would be at home with burning bushes). The same goes for Charlotte Appleby,...

Curses and accusations abound in the latest episode of BBC supernatural period drama The Living And The Dead…
This review contains spoilers.
“A strange summer” Nathan Appleby remarked to his pal the vicar over a tankard of ale. “Disturbing” agreed the man of the cloth. That’s what comes of living in a six-part supernatural miniseries. Weird events occur on a weekly basis.
Especially at harvest time, a period so crucial to the economic existence of Shepzoy, it’s fraught with superstition and accusation even before the ghost-of-the-week turns up.
That’s what makes The Living And The Dead’s setting such fertile ground for spooky storytelling. Belief in ghosts, curses and witchcraft is already stewed in with the life of the village. Their ways are the old ways, and those old ways are rapidly knocking Nathan Appleby’s Enlightenment rationalism into a cocked hat.

Colin Morgan shines in the latest instalment of BBC supernatural period drama The Living And The Dead...
This review contains spoilers.
It would be fair to say that Nathan and Charlotte’s Escape To The Country isn’t going swimmingly. Tragic children of the parish keep spoiling the baby-making, strawberry-growing idyll envisaged by the second Mrs Appleby. That’s what comes of her persisting in the belief that she’s in Poldark when she’s actually been cast in Children Of The Corn. The sooner she realises that and hotfoots it out of Shepzoy, dreamy husband in tow, the better.
Fat chance of that now that Nathan is further down the rabbit hole. Turning his back on scientific rationalism, the good doctor’s growing obsession with ghosts and strange happenings is pulling him away from the world of the living. The spookier things get, the more personal...

Episode one of handsome new BBC supernatural period drama The Living And The Dead feat. Colin Morgan ends on a gripping hook…
This review contains episode 1 spoilers.
Ashley Pharoah, the creator of The Living And The Dead, made his name writing genre TV with a twist. He and Matthew Graham added a time travel mystery to the police procedural in Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes, then spliced the supernatural with court drama in Eternal Law.
Pharoah’s new series The Living And The Dead plays the same game. It’s a traditional Victorian ghost story with Something Else Going On. Two events in the first episode alert viewers to this fact – the vapour trail of a modern airplane in the 1894 Somerset sky and the closing sight of a twenty-first century woman, iPad in hand, walking around the nineteenth-century farmhouse in which the story is set.

We chatted to the writer and cast of new BBC supernatural period drama starring Colin Morgan, by the co-creator of Life On Mars...
On the wall of Ashley Pharoah’s office hangs the bullet-riddled driver-side door of a red 1983 Audi Quattro. It’s a set-souvenir from Ashes To Ashes, the time-travel police drama he co-created to follow Life On Mars. Somewhere nearby is a sepia photograph of a young man looking justifiably disturbed by the sack-headed, creepily masked figures who surround him. That’s Pharoah’s souvenir from the set of The Living And The Dead, an eerie period supernatural drama launching in 'box-set' form on BBC iPlayer tomorrow.
Set in 1894 Somerset, The Living And The Dead is in the tradition of the dark English pastoral. It pits the rural customs and rites of an ancient way of life against the modern ingress of industry and technology.

All 6 episodes of The Living And The Dead, from the co-creator of Life On Mars, will debut this Friday the 17th of June on BBC iPlayer...
In a repeat of last year's successful online-box-set-then-traditional-broadcast-release (snappier name required) of Peter Kay's Car Share, the BBC is launching its first original drama 'box-set'.
All six episodes of spooky new period drama The Living And The Dead, created by Life On Mars' Ashley Pharoah and starring Merlin's Colin Morgan and Glue's Charlotte Spencer, will be available to watch from this Friday the 17th of June on BBC iPlayer. The episodes will then receive a weekly airing starting from Tuesday the 28th of June at 9pm.
It's a smart move from the BBC, one that will transform iPlayer into more than simply a catch-up service. Traditional viewers won't lose out on week-by-week viewings, while those more used to gulping down entire series whenever it suits them can do just that.
The Living And The Dead is in the tradition of the dark English pastoral, a creepy countryside tale of the strange goings-on that beset a young psychologist (Morgan) and his photographer wife (Spencer) when they move back to his childhood West Country home in 1894.
We'll have more for you on the show later this week.
