The Saul Zaentz Company has sold its film library, which also includes titles such as The Mosquito Coast, The Unbearable Lightness of Being and Wattstax, to Teatro della Pace Films.
The films are staying in the family, though, as Teatro della Pace is owned by Zaentz’s nephew, producer Paul Zaentz. Acf Investment Bank advised The Saul Zaentz Company on the deal alongside Arnold & Porter as legal advisers.
It comes three months after The Saul Zaentz Company sold the rights to The Lord of the Rings, via its Middle-Earth Enterprises, to Sweden’s Embracer for nearly $400M. Those rights included motion picture, video game, board game, merchandising, theme parks and stage production rights relating to the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchises.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “The Righteous Gemstones” Season 3, Episode 3, “For Their Nakedness Is Your Own Nakedness.“]
If you’ve seen the opening scene of the latest episode of “The Righteous Gemstones,” congratulations. “There Will Come a Payday” will now be a resident of your subconscious for the next few weeks.
And you can credit a few different people. First, there’s the incomparable Walton Goggins, whose poolside Baby Billy performance of the song opens things up with a waltz-time country gospel flair. There’s also Red Sovine, who originally recorded the track for his 1978 swan song album “16 New Gospel Songs,” helping to cap off his own prolific two-decade career as a recording artist.
“The Righteous Gemstones” composer Joseph Stephens is the other key part of the process, fine-tuning this newest cover of the half-century-old song for the HBO show.

On November 30, 1970, New York City’s Anthology Film Archives opened its doors as the first ever “museum of film” at its original location at 425 Lafayette Street. That was an invitation-only Opening Night event with the first public screening occurring the following night, December 1.
A previous article on the Underground Film Journal uncovered the first five nights of screenings at the Anthology, and the reaction in the NYC press to this unique movie theater.
Digging around in the digital archives of the Village Voice, the Journal has been able to piece together most of the screening lineups for the month of December. Unfortunately, these archives do not contain issues for the last week of November nor the first week of December, so we do not have screening info for December 5-9.
However, below are the screenings for December 10-30. The Anthology’s original plan was to have three screenings every night...

Funcom has annoucned a new post-apocalyptic tactics game this morning, that wants to combine the thrill of Xcom with real-time stealth gameplay and an engaging story. Come inside for the first details on the newly revealed, Mutant Year Zero.
I don't think there will ever be a time when I'm not a sucker for turn-based tactical games. Throw stealth gameplay into the mix and my attention is fully, and completely, captured. Such is the case with Mutant Year Zero, which was announced today with a swanky story trailer and some details on the gameplay:
Of course the world ends, it was just a question of time. Extreme climate change, global economic crisis, a lethal pandemic, and increasing tension between old and new superpowers. For the first time since 1945 nuclear weapons were used in armed conflict. Mushroom clouds rose from east to west before the dust settled. The humans are gone.

Swedish developer Starbreeze Studios has fully acquired the Payday franchise rights, with Overkill Software now primed to drop all Payday 2 microtransactions.
In a deal said to be worth upwards of $30 million, the news brings Starbreeze’s partnership with 505 Games to an end, after the latter studio assisted with publishing Payday 2 three years ago.
Now, Starbreeze’s focus is firmly on the future of the Payday series. In an official blog post, CEO Bo Andersson Klint revealed plans to support the crime caper sequel for a further 18 months, while there’s also mention of a Payday 3 further in the press release.
“Payday is very close to my heart, and has laid the foundation for Starbreeze success in recent years. We’re very excited to bring our heisters home to the safe house. To start with, we believe in the continued success of Payday 2 and will support it for at least another 18 months continuing expanding the game.

In the wake of a new partnership between Starbreeze and Smilegate, Overkill's new The Walking Dead video game release has been pushed back from 2016 to the second half of 2017:
From the press release: As part of the strategic partnership, Starbreeze receives distribution rights on the Smilegate platform, enabling it to distribute its titles, including Payday 2 and Overkill’s The Walking Dead, in Asia.
Overkill’s The Walking Dead will be expanded with more content where an Asian version will be developed for simultaneous launch with the western version. To maximize the new opportunities, Starbreeze, 505 Games and Skybound have decided to release the game in all markets during the second half of 2017. The partners are convinced this will pave the way to success, maximize revenues and cement it as a tent pole product for the next decade to come.
“What the Starbreeze team has achieved in the last few years is amazing.

Since its reveal back in August of 2014, there’s been an eerie radio silence surrounding Overkill Software’s The Walking Dead – quite befitting for a game about the zombie apocalypse, really– but today an update has arrived from publisher Starbreeze to announce that the co-op, first-person title will debut for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Partnering with 505 Games, Overkill Software are best known for its lucrative PayDay franchise, and the studio certainly has the creative chops to deliver a unique spin on Robert Kirkman’s lucrative IP. As a matter of fact, it’s understood the prestigious writer is on board as a producer on the title, though this particular iteration of The Walking Dead will spin its own story independent of the source material replete with novel characters.
In tandem with today’s news, Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson touched upon the potential of such a partnership, and how Overkill...

Overkill Software, the creative minds behind bombastic co-op romp Payday, have revealed that an all-new The Walking Dead game is in development, which is to be overseen by Starbreeze Studios and Robert Kirkman himself.
Taking to Payday 2’s community blog over on Steam, Kirkman — the creator of The Walking Dead — spoke about his excitement for Overkill’s rendition of the lucrative IP.
“I’m a huge fan of what Overkill and Starbreeze have been able to do with Payday 2. It’s just an amazing co-operative game and I’m excited to be able to announce that Skybound is partnering with Overkill to make a Walking Dead game. I’m happy to say that it’s the co-op game that all of the Walking Dead fans have been waiting for.”

Here’s a different type of story. It seems that Payday 2 has already turned a profit. In a marketplace where games aren’t guaranteed to recoup their losses, it’s great to see a smaller title break through. What makes this story so spectacular though is that Payday 2 has turned a profit, and it hasn’t even been released.
GameChup.com has translated a statement from Starbreeze Studios CEO Bo Andersson-Klint. It reads as follows:
“Starbreeze today has once again demonstrated that our strategy to invest in our own brands is correct. Not only have we been able to deliver an attractive product in Payday 2 but also a marketing that few companies of our size can,” the statement read. “We now look forward to royalties that can ensure the company’s development of its own IP to come. For Payday 2 to generate revenue to the company six days before release is,...

He sparred with Dennis Hopper, hit Norman Mailer with a hammer, and got himself on the Hollywood blacklist... welcome to the world of hell-raising actor Rip Torn
It wasn't until The Larry Sanders Show became a cult hit on British television that people here started to get an idea of who Rip Torn was. We'd seen him in films like The Man Who Fell To Earth, the country-music drama Payday from 1973, and well-regarded arthouse pictures like Heartland, but his well-deserved American reputation as "an actors' actor" -- to say nothing of his only partly deserved reputation as an off-the-reservation wild man -- hadn't penetrated the British consciousness. Perhaps this was because his work was spread across movies, TV and the Broadway stage, and his image was diffused by his reluctance to repeat himself or be typecast.
Speaking to the gruff, genial Torn, it's apparent that he has something of Woody Allen...
