When a young couple wins a stay at a Creeper-themed escape room there’s no way out from stagey panics and shoddy bloodletting
The Creeper, from the 2001 horror film Jeepers Creepers, has always been in the Vanarama National League of cinematic bogeymen, but the batwing-faced old trouper still deserves better than this shoddy, aesthetically ugly reboot. It reprises the original redneck highway setup in its prologue, with two pensioners replacing Justin Long and Gina Phillips. But Finnish director Timo Vuorensola bypasses the first film’s lean and highly strung qualities in a half-hearted attempt to update the franchise – now with no input from its original creator, disgraced director Victor Salva – for horror-savvy 21st-century punters.
The ill-fated seniors at the beginning quickly become another pair of missing persons chalked off to the Creeper, as recounted in a YouTube documentary being lapped up by horror fanboy Chase (Imran Adams). He’s...

As a horror reviewer I come across trailers for neo-Grindhouse and exploitation movies all the time that promise to be shocking, or sexy, or depraved, and inevitably when I sit down to watch one of these movies for review it ends up being some lame shot on video piece of shit with in-camera sound and no score, featuring jokes ripped off from South Park, zero story structure, and if there are naked women, they are women that you do not under any circumstances want to see naked. I usually watch about ten minutes of such a film and then don't bother to write a review.
Creeper (Written and Directed by Matthew Gunnoe, starring Darryl Baldwin, Monica Chambers, Rohnja Morrow) might not be a masterpiece of horror cinema, but it is a horror/exploitation film that is better made than most, and delivers where other films...
