Barry Manilow headlined the 33rd annual "A Capitol Fourth" on Thursday (July 4) for the second time. While his performance drew positive reviews, the 70-year-old singer's appearance was mostly just confusing.
Although many of Manilow's admirers mentioned age when praising the singer, the praise was totally there. A post from Twitter user @librarian_kate said:
"I just sang along with Barry Manilow. Yep, I'm old."
Another tweeter, @buckhollywood, used age as further praise for live singing:
"Barry Manilow still sings live and he is like 100!"
In appearance, reviews were not quite as kind. One Twitter user found Manilow's entire body to be objectionable:
"Barry Manilow has a body like a ventriloquist dummy."
@staciatague was mostly just worried on Manilow's behalf:
"Oh!! Barry Manilow!!! What have you done to yourself??"
One Twitter user, @ninatypewriter, even included a photo to prove her point:
"Barry Manilow on #ACapitolFourth was a plastic surgery, cheek implant cautionary tale"
Of course,...

Michael Ausiello reveals that Boy Meets World sequel series Girl Meets World is looking to find someone to play lead Girl‘s Riley‘s cousin. That implies we can hope to see Will Friedle appear in the sequel series.
Three down, one more to go?
Switched at Birth will see Joey Lauren Adams appear in two episodes as Nikki‘s mother. I guess that means we’re not going to see Toby break off the engagement anytime soon, as I’ve hoped.
Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan tells The Wrap that he’s working “full speed ahead” on the possible Saul Goodman-focused spin-off.
The Hallmark Channel has cancelled Marie Osmond‘s barely-promoted talk show Marie. Hallmark, which cancelled Martha last year, says its switching to instructional shows in the daytime. Meanwhile, Marie ‘s producers are trying to sell the show to TV stations as a syndicated series.

Based on the suspense novel by P.D. James, the project — which is timed to P and P‘s 200th anniversary — centers on three of author Jane Austen’s iconic characters: Elizabeth Bennet, George Wickham and, of course, Mr. Darcy.
Anna Maxwell Martin has been cast as Elizabeth, and Matthew Goode will bring George to the small screen.

He's ready to take a chance again. Barry Manilow will to return to the west lawn of our nation's capitol on July 4 to headline PBS's annual A Capitol Fourth live concert event.
Manilow performed at the concert four years ago and tells me his best memory occurred as he was belting out his inspirational classic, "Let Freedom Ring." "On the last key change, as the song built to the most powerful moment, the most brilliant fireworks shot into the sky and continued until the last note of the song," recalls Manilow, who will conclude this year's performance with the same number. "The fireworks were timed precisely and exactly to the beat of the modulation. It was one of the most thrilling moments I can remember."

HollywoodNews.com: Expect Jimmy Smits’ forthcoming “Outlaw” drama to be fueled by hot button issues, attention-grabbing news blasts and tough controversies. That’s the word from the star himself, who points out, “My years of working on ‘The West Wing’ did cement in my mind the fact that there is an audience out there for topical stories.”
“Outlaw,” as you may know, has him as a Supreme Court Justice who steps down. “The way we’re positing the character is that during his time on the bench, he’s been one of the more conservative-leaning judges. His father, you see in the pilot, is an activist, kind of liberal. When his father dies, it causes him to reassess what he wants to do in his life,” Jimmy explains. “He decides he can make more of an impact by going around the country, trying cases.

Welcome to another edition of TV or Not TV where I feel like summer is now actually here.
In general I have nothing against the Summer Solstice. It serves a purpose, it’s there for a reason, but it never really feels to me like the start of summer. Yes the temperature is warmer, the daylight sticks around longer, but it takes the American tradition and holiday of the 4th of July to really make me get in the mood. Family is together, the nation is on break, and there is the time honored tradition of TV marathon’s being put on because the network’s know that no one will really be watching.
Some network’s this 4th of July are getting creative and others just can’t get unstuck from their rut. Spike is once again rolling out the all Star Wars marathon starting with Phantom Menace and...

"American Idol" runner-up David Archuleta is joining R&B legend Gladys Knight at the annual July 4th holiday concert in Washington D.C. "A Capitol Fourth" will air live from the west law of the Capitol at 8 p.m. Et on PBS stations across the country.
Jimmy Smits is hosting the event and Reba McEntire, Darius Rucker and the National Sympathy Orchestra are also scheduled to participate in the patriotic festivities. This is the 30th anniversary of "A Capitol Fourth." It always ends with a length fireworks display.
Archie will sing the National Anthem, which we're sure will be great. We wish he would also get to do "Imagine," which seems like a nice 4th of July song and is also a piece he does very well. This is just another stop in his travels -- Archie has recently been debuting new songs at an Idaho concert, singing at the Mall of America,...
