Jena Malone (The Hunger Games sequels, Hatfields & McCoys) and Douglas Smith (Terminator: Genisys, Ouija) have landed lead roles the indie horror pic Bottom Of The World for director Richard Sears. Malone and Smith play Scarlett and Alex, a young couple who stop at a desert motel on their way to start a new life in L.A. When she vanishes, Alex desperately tries to find her but is plunged into a nightmarish world where he finally realizes that he must be in a dream — but he is not the dreamer. Ted Levine also has joined the cast as a sinister preacher who taunts Alex at every turn. Brian Gottlieb wrote the pic, which starts shooting September 1 in Ottawa. Malone is repped by Gersh and Hirsch Wallerstein; Smyth is with Paradigm, More/Medavoy Management and Morris Yorn.
Nicholas Braun (The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, At Middleton) has begun filming The Stanford Prison Experiment.

Grant Bowler / Richard Burton: Liz & Dick Grant Bowler as Richard Burton in Lifetime’s fall movie Liz & Dick looks less convincing than Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor. Burton met Taylor at the time the two were making Cleopatra for 20th Century Fox. A troubled production, Cleopatra was initially to have starred Taylor, Peter Finch, and Stephen Boyd, under the direction of Rouben Mamoulian. Mamoulian left, Taylor fell seriously ill, nearly died, and had to have a tracheotomy performed. The end result was a Best Actress Academy Award for her troubles (and for Butterfield 8) and brand new leading men for Cleopatra: Richard Burton as Marc Antony and Rex Harrison as Julius Caesar. By then, Cleopatra also had a new director: two-time Best Director Oscar winner Joseph L. Mankiewicz. A respected stage and screen actor in the ’60s, Richard Burton was nominated for seven Academy Awards. Best Supporting Actor...

This Year's superhero releases are not all about rising, avenging or web-spinning. Don't forget Griff The Invisible, which materialises on Blu-ray and DVD in the UK on April 16.
By day, Griff is just a shy, socially inept office worker, easily bullied and ignored. By night, he turns into a dark-suited vigilante to go fighting crimes and righting wrongs.
Unaware of this dual identity, his brother Tim (Patrick Brammall) is concerned about his behaviour and while trying to get him to socialise more, Griff meets the beautiful but obsessive scientist Melody (Maeve Dermody), who has discovered a way of walking through walls.
It's a dynamic team-up that unexpectedly unleashes new-found powers that will transform all their lives.
A quirky caped comedy that blends superheroics with romance, Griff The Invisible is the feature film debut of Leon Ford, a former actor who has appeared in The Pacific and Hex.
Shot on location in Sydney,...

Back in August, I told you about Griff the Invisible, a small indie film about a would-be super-hero feature the terrific Ryan Kwanten. The movie opened and closed in the blink of an eye, probably while you were on line to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and you missed out.
Vivendi Entertainment is releasing the film on Blu-ray and DVD on November 15 so you get a second chance at catching this charming film.
Better, we have been given three DVDs to give away. Here’s what you need to do in order to win:
By 11:59 p.m., Saturday November 12, tell us what super-power you most desire and how you would use it to fight for truth and justice. The final decision of the ComicMix judges will be final.
