Exclusive: Having rallied in recent months against censorship-advocating Republican politicians and the loss of abortion rights in America, Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider is going back to the past to spotlight our potential future.
The heavy metal lead singer has teamed with Magilla Entertainment for a documentary series about the efforts of Tipper Gore and the Parents Music Resource Center 37 years ago to excise so-called obscene music. Confounding all expectations, Snider appeared with Frank Zappa and John Denver before a Senate committee in 1985 and proved a compelling and insightful advocate for freedom of expression and creative license.
“To be in the crosshairs of this bipartisan attack on free speech caught me completely off guard,” Snider told Deadline. “All of my rock and roll dreams were finally coming true, and the Pmrc was trying to shut me up,” the “We’re Not Gonna Take It” singer added of the heyday of hair metal.

Sometimes a film will speak directly to a person in an audience: A preternatural, unearthly tendril of luminous light tapping you on the shoulder, a benevolent yet mysterious voice reminding you of an obligation, or a musical, colorful Dream Message entering your eyes and speaking to your soul with wonder, awe and truth. Like other Art forms, film can do amazing things.
For me, there are definitely a few choice films of overwhelming, pristine power. Yet one cinematic work is not just great, deeply special to me: ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind.’ Directed by the Wonderkind, Steven Spielberg, directly after his landmark suspense-adventure film, ‘Jaws’.
Now, his new flick, released in 1977, also dealt with the fantastic, with riveting moments of terror… but its endgame was something quite dissimilar.
I think it would take either a first-rate Psychologist or an Exorcist with a lot of...

It starred Patrick Swayze as a soldier from South Carolina, and James Read as a solder from Pennsylvania, who became Bff’s while attending West Point, only to find themselves on opposite sides in the Civil War. New York — When Robert Redford first called Bob Woodward to talk about a movie that eventually became "All the President's Men," the Washington Post reporter didn't call back.
Redford's call came early in Woodward and Carl Bernstein's reporting on the coverup that later toppled President Richard Nixon. Redford, who portrayed Woodward in the movie, said the writer later told him he didn't believe it was the actor on the phone and was worried about being set up.
"I don't know if it was that," Woodward told The Associated Press. "I think we were busy and wondering why he might be calling."
They were certainly busy, and a Discovery network documentary, "All the President's Men Revisited" which airs Sunday at 8 p.m. Et, shows why. Ultimately the focus is far more on the Watergate case than the film about it.
