Chef Alex Guarnaschelli is a titan of cooking competition shows. A “Chopped” and “Guy’s Grocery Games” regular and the host of “Supermarket Stakeout,” Guarnaschelli has also beat Bobby Flay and conquered the Kitchen Stadium to become an Iron Chef. And now that she’s put her name on her own cooking competition show, you better believe every episode is a knock-down-drag-out. In fact, a Season 2 episode quite literally got bloody when the chef suffered a scary kitchen injury — and in true Guarnaschelli fashion, refused to give up anyway.
With “Alex vs. America,” Guarnaschelli welcomes talented chefs from around the nation who try to beat the Food Network star at her own game. Hosted by Eric Adjepong, every episode finds Guarnachelli battling three chefs, each an expert in a new episodic theme, which ranges from “Chocolate” to “Spicy” to “Brunch.” And anyone can go home in any round – including Guarnaschelli.

Chef Alex Guarnaschelli is back on Food Network next month with the premiere of the newest season of “Alex vs America.”
TheWrap can exclusively reveal her show returns Sunday, July 31 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on the cable network.
In each one-hour long episode, Guarnaschelli will face off with three chefs from across the U.S. — at the same time — who are experts in a particular culinary specialty. If they can beat her, they win a cash prize and bragging rights, of course.
Chef Eric Adjepong is hosting the show and leads Chef Alex and her competitors in two rounds of challenges.
Here’s how the show works: Adjepong will present Chef Alex and the competitors with a culinary theme for their dishes. Competitors can work together in the first round to choose ingredients and decide how much time is on the clock. Two judges will then blind taste test the dishes.

But they nevertheless won that pivotal challenge. But does that mean it’ll be smooth sailing ffor them tonight in episode nine of the cooking competition? Not according to the “Top Chef” fans who have placed their bets here in our predictions center.

In last week’s episode of “Top Chef,” the judges rewarded restaurant pitches by All-Stars Kevin Gillespie and Gregory Gourdet in a prelude to this week’s “Restaurant Wars.” Meanwhile, eliminated chef Eric Adjepong tried to fight his way back into the competition on “Last Chance Kitchen,” but Nini Nguyen managed to retain her status in by cooking an Italian fish dish that was Tom Colicchio’s favorite. Stephanie Cmar can never catch a break on “Top Chef: All-Stars L.A.” — well, almost never. She has struggled to get out of the bottom during elimination challenges, and going into tonight’s Restaurant Wars she’s the likeliest to be eliminated with 17/5 odds, according to the combined predictions of fans who have placed their bets here in our predictions center. Do you agree?
Cmar started the season strong when she was on the winning team in “It’s Like They Never Left,” but then she plummeted to the bottom in “The Jonathan Gold Standard,” “Strokes of Genius,” “Bring Your Loved One to Work” and last week in “Pitch Perfect.” She was safe in “You’re So Fresh,” but even then she was on the losing team for that vegetarian challenge.

“Today is a ‘Top Chef: Kentucky’ showdown,” said Tom Colicchio at the start of this week’s “Last Chance Kitchen.” Eric Adjepong and Nini Nguyen went head-to-head for a chance at redemption, and coincidentally both All-Stars previously competed on the show just last year during season 16. “Only familiar faces right now in ‘Last Chance Kitchen,’ but you have no choice but to fight,” said Nguyen. Watch what happened above.

On last week’s episode of “Top Chef,” best friends Nini Nguyen and Karen Akunowicz both were eliminated after their shared sour-and-umami dish failed to fully please the judges’ palates. Mere minutes afterwards they both went up against Lisa Fernandes in “Last Chance Kitchen.” Karen had Tom’s favorite dish, so she was allowed to rejoin the game, while Nini is still in “Lck” limbo and alas, Lisa will have to join the peanut gallery of “Lck” losers. So what happened this week? Read on for our minute-by-minute takes on the seventh episode of Season 17, “Pitch Perfect.”

On last week’s episode of “Top Chef,” Season 6 and 8 competitor Jennifer Carroll failed to tickle the taste buds of the judges with her Sunny Lemon Ginger Love sauce. In last week’s episode of ‘Top Chef,’ season 4 finalist Lisa Fernandes’s undercooked Brussels sprouts caused her to hear these words for the first time from host Padma Lakshmi’s lips: “Please pack your knives and go.” Luckily, she redeemed herself after she topped Joe Sasto during “Last Chance Kitchen.” This week the Los Angeles edition of Bravo’s reality show has the 11 chefs left in the game cooking with the help of their loved ones. On last week’s Season 17 episode of “Top Chef,” Jamie Lynch was the All-Star eliminated for not having enough time to pour his jus over his seared chicken breast, leaving his plate inspired by baroque paintings rather tasteless.
