Champagne Papi is at it again: On March 5, Drake’s Instagram story made the rounds, this time for the news that he’d be remixing viral crooner 4batz’s “act ii: date @ 8.” The song sounds like the sort of late-night-vibe, hip-hop-adjacent, alternative R&b popularized by acts like 6lack, Brent Faiyaz, and Bryson Tiller at its most minimalist. “Five hunnid for your fuckin’ hair, two hunnid for your fuckin’ nails,” 4batz sings to someone he affectionately (?) calls “bitch” on the song that’s mostly hook. Among the highlights are retrospectives on Yasujiro Ozu (featuring nearly 40 films!), Ousmane Sembène, Alfred Hitchcock (along with Kent Jones’ Hitchcock/Truffaut), and Parker Posey. Well-timed for the season is a holiday noir series that includes They Live By Night, Blast of Silence, Lady in the Lake, and more.

"Champagne's not actually mentioned in the manual, but it is strong implied." Madman Films has debuted another official trailer for an Australian indie drama titled A Stitch in Time, made by the filmmaker Sasha Hadden. A heart-warming story about a former dressmaker named Liebe, and her partner Duncan. Liebe leaves Duncan to reinvent herself after befriending young Chinese fashion designer, played by Hoa Xuande (from "Cowboy Bebop"). Starring Australian theatre fave Maggie Blinco, Glenn Shorrock. Aussie icon Belinda Giblin, and rising star Hoa Xuande. A charming, easy-to-watch film about rediscovering your passion at any age. // Continue Reading ›...
