Criminal Minds is showing us a new side of Derek Morgan in this exclusive clip from tonight’s new episode — and no, we’re not talking about his shirtless torso. We’re referencing the first peek at Derek Morgan: Attentive boyfriend.
“It’s about time!” jokes Shemar Moore of the introduction of Morgan’s previously mentioned — but never seen — new girlfriend Savannah, played by Rochelle Aytes of Mistresses. “I joke all the time that Derek’s the most sexually repressed character on TV.”
Not anymore, though. And Moore says he’s more than happy to explore that side of the often intense character.

As excited as Shemar Moore is for CBS’ Criminal Minds (Wednesdays, 9/8c) to embark on its “quickest, deepest dive” ever into Derek Morgan’s love life, he is well aware that one group of ‘shippers may be watching it unfold through their fingers.
“I’m kind of wary of how the Morgan/Garcia fans are going to take it,” the actor says of tonight’s episode introducing Rochelle Aytes (Mistresses) as Derek’s girlfriend Savannah. “Hopefully they don’t see her a threat, but see this new lady as adding another dimension to Morgan.”

Several months ago, Shemar Moore of CBS' "Criminal Minds" walked into an audition. He had learned his lines, rehearsed and worked with his acting coach.
"I went in the room, and I think I did a pretty good job," he tells Zap2it. "They're like, 'Great, so, how many Facebook followers do you have?' I'm like, 'What? Either I'm right for this role, or I'm not.' And they really cared.
"It's scary to me. I'm 43 years old, and when I got into the business, there was no TMZ, no Perez Hilton; there was no Media TakeOut. None of this gossip, media, instant. Literally if I decide I'm out of toilet paper or orange juice, and I get in my car -- and I don't mean this to sound ego-based -- but it's like, 'Is somebody going to see me? What am I wearing? It isn't often that an episode of Criminal Minds is as compelling as this one turned out to be.
On "Restoration," the spotlight focused on Derek Morgan, who was the first to figure out the connection between two murdered middle-aged men, as a result of words that were written at each crime scene "look up to the sky."
That phrase had been uttered many times by Morgan's childhood abuser, Carl Buford, who was doing time in prison for a series of murders. The Bau finally identified the Unsub as another of Buford's victims - a man whose past came back to haunt him when he learned his son had been molested by a swimming coach.
In a fit of rage, he murdered him... and then when there was no catharsis from that act, he went on to murder other men who he thought were probably child abusers. Basically any man who was comfortable around kids.

This Wednesday on Criminal Minds (CBS, 9/8c), the crime drama will reach back six years into its past to revisit Bau Agent Derek Morgan’s backstory, which originally surfaced in the Season 2 episode “Profiler, Profiled.”
The storyline — which brings back Carl Buford (played by Julius Tennon, Loneseome Dove) as Morgan’s childhood mentor-turned-pedophilic serial killer — resonates deeply with Shemar Moore, and for multiple reasons.

Zap2it: Since "Criminal Minds" is about FBI profilers chasing criminals, how much time can be devoted to the characters' personal lives?
Shemar Moore: In the real world of FBI profilers, you've only got 72 hours to stop a serial killer or a criminal. So there's no time for hanky-panky, and there's no time to sit down and have a beer and see the private lives of our characters. But every so often, the show has been good about giving us some storylines to where you really see our characters affected or what they're about outside the job.
Zap2it: Your character, FBI Agent Derek Morgan, has a playful, platonic flirtation with quirky technical analyst Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) -- but so far it hasn't tipped over into romance. What do you think about that?
Shemar Moore: I wouldn't want them to [have a romance]. Nothing against Kirsten; I love Kirsten. It would take the magic away.

On CBS' Wednesday drama "Criminal Minds," Shemar Moore plays FBI Agent Derek Morgan, one of the FBI profiling team that heads out each week from the Behavioral Analysis Unit at Quantico, Va., to hunt down killers -- usually serial killers.
With the current debate raging about the effect of on-screen violence on incidents of real-world violence, "Criminal Minds" would seem to be a natural target of the anti-violence, anti-gun movement.
Not so fast, says Moore.
"If you watch our show," he tells Zap2it, "we don't show any violence. It's a very dark world that we're in, and there are blood spatters and dead people and cut throats and things like that. It's a nasty world that we're depicting, but it's real. This stuff does happen somewhere in the world.
"But if you watch our show, we'll show you the hand going up in the air, but we'll never show you it making impact.

On Criminal Minds Season 8, the writers seem to be taking a different approach to their stories.
Rather than rely solely on deeper examples of depravity and horror, there's a focus on truly interesting mindsets and curious behaviors.
In "Magnificent Light," we are introduced to an UnSub who suffers from synesthesia, a condition in which two or more senses are triggered simultaneously. In this instance, the UnSub sees the words people are speaking, and he sees them in different colors, each of which has meaning. White means good, orange means deception or lies and red means evil.
When the hour began, and all we could see was a flickering flame, I was sure we were hearing the voice of the photographer who's been stalking the Bau:
Flynn: Your life is about to end. You will all die. In your remaining time on earth, how do you want to live? As a bright and shiny star?...

As ghoulish as this week's Criminal Minds episode may have been, it managed to capitalize on its procedural element, feeding the audience with clues and guesses all the way through.
"The Good Earth" featured the lovely Anne Dudek as the hypochondriac UnSub Emma Kerrigan. You may remember her as Annie's sister on Covert Affairs or a certain cutthroat bitch on House.
Here, she abducted four men, and it took the team a while to figure out what she was doing with them and why. Eventually we learned she was providing them with sustenance - through their noses - in order to make them ready as human fertilizer for her garden.
I keep wondering each week if the show's writers have a contest to see how much they can get their viewers to squirm. First, it was the food through the nose thing. Then we got to watch as Emma kidnapped...

If ever there was an episode of Criminal Minds that could be dissected for days, it was this one.
Luckily for us, it featured a whole lot of Derek Morgan, which is never a bad thing. Following closely on the heels of another powerful episode, "Foundation," after months of neglecting Shemar Moore, we've finally seen the needle move to the "Morgan-heavy" side of the spectrum, and I say it's about time.
First things first, though. We just had a deeper glimpse into the trauma Morgan suffered from his childhood abuse a few weeks ago. He was uncharacteristically vulnerable and open in order to help Angel, and it in turn gave him strength.
Now we again see Morgan putting himself out there, as he was forced to confess to lying about his cousin Cindi's "death." No one could blame him for wanting his aunt to have closure, but he had to...

Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) and Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) have a very easy friendship. They are comfortable enough around one another to flirt a bit and joke around, but there is another deeper layer to their relationship -- an extremely strong bond developed over the past six seasons and was put to the test thanks to a traumatic event that played out over the last two seasons. Here, we take a close look at how that relationship started and was ultimately forged by shocking and painful circumstances.

Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) and Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) have a very complicated relationship. They are colleagues and members of a team that is very much a family, but Morgan and Hotch are not really friends. Morgan once pointed out that Hotch is not someone he wants to spend time with in his off-hours, and they do not seem to have much in common outside of their profession. Yet both men clearly respect each other and recognize that each is needed for their team's continued success.

From an outsider's perspective, the relationship between Criminal Minds' Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) could be seen as strange or inappropriate -- but the audience knows better.
The friendship between these two characters is always entertaining and one of the highlights of the series. From their flirtatious banter to their over-protectiveness, Morgan and Garcia just get each other. Morgan makes it his life's work to protect his golden goddess, and Garcia goes out of her way to make him smile. The snarky conversations between this duo are a vital component of the series and we would not have it any other way.

On 'Criminal Minds,' Shemar Moore plays Derek Morgan, an FBI agent in the Behavioral Analysis Unit. Moore went on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) to talk about his tough-guy character and how the show's writers incorporate real-life crimes into its scripts. He also explained to Kit Hoover why viewers shouldn't expect to see Morgan involved in a love story anytime soon.
Moore said he enjoys playing Morgan because of all the "bad-ass" stuff he gets to do. "Derek Morgan's looking for the fight," Moore said. "He's a guy who kicks down doors, is the first one in a burning building and the last one to leave. He doesn't like when the little guy gets picked on."

Shemar Moore caused a bit of a stir with Sharon Osbourne, not to mention Holly Robinson Peete's mother, when he appeared on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) Tuesday. Moore, who plays FBI agent Derek Morgan on 'Criminal Minds,' made the cover of Maximum Fitness magazine, appearing without a shirt. He joked that he wasn't in that kind of shape at the moment, but then displayed his abs anyway.
That's what made Osbourne swoon. "You need a really good licking," she said. When Moore reminded her she was married, Osbourne said she couldn't help it if Moore made her feel "funny in certain places."

How would you have reacted if Derek Morgan suddenly was no longer apart of the FBI team on Criminal Minds? I know some of the ladies out there would be sad to lose such an attractive man, and the guys would be bummed that an awesome guy like Morgan couldn’t there role model anymore. Quite possibly the world could descend into chaos.
But fear not! Deadline reports that Shemar Moore, the actor behind Derek Morgan, has finally closed a deal with ABC to appear on Criminal Minds for Season 7. Phew. Breathe a sigh of relief folks. It looks like his new agreement will roughly double his salary to $100,000 an episode. That’s a good deal. Anytime something gets doubled it’s probably in your best interest. Unless it’s time served.
Still no word on Thomas Gibson, who has yet to sign on for next season.

There’s no way I’m going to get this right. We never say precisely what we ought to when we part, the words are never perfect enough — not even for those of us who get paid to write them…or used to, anyway. I’m sorry to say that this is the last time we’ll walk the Beat together as I'm leaving EW. So I’ll tell you what, Coppers, let’s save the hugs for the end, stuff down the tears (I grant that they’re probably all mine), and take a stroll. I’m ready if you are.

The fourth season of Criminal Minds sees the show starting to be a bit formulaic, but still able to throw a surprise or two . especially in the final episodes of the season. Criminal Minds follows the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit as they crisscross the country helping various law enforcement agencies stop the country's most twisted criminals (sometimes you wonder how they got some of these episodes on the air). The team is made up of a variety of specialists . including street smart cop Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore); computer tech wizard Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness); FBI agent Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster); genius Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler); public liaison officer Jennifer 'Jj' Jareau (A.J. Cook);...

Crime procedurals often get lumped into one large genre with little distinguishing qualifications made to separate them from one another. If any distinction is made it’s between the more technically oriented CSI and the more character driven Law and Order series, of which there are many. Criminal Minds takes a third route and explores an alternate venue: the psychological profile. With a new serial killer for each episode, you’d think the shtick would have gotten tired by its fourth season; but you’d be wrong. The show remains as compelling as ever and makes for some great episodic television.
Since Mandy Patinkin (as Jason Gideon) walked off the set of Criminal Minds after the second season, the reins fell into the lap of Agent Aaron “Hotch” Hotchner (Thomas Gibson), Gideon’s once right-hand man. Under Hotch, the Behavioral Analysis Unit has successfully profiled dozens of killers and remained a tight-knit group.
