Originally announced way back in 2018, director Barry Andersson is turning the viral Creepypasta tale of the “Russian Sleep Experiment” into a horror movie, but it’s been radio silence on the project since that original report. Today, Screen Daily breaks the silence.
Screen Daily reports that “Los Angeles based production and distribution company Buffalo 8 has acquired worldwide rights” to the film, which is titled Soviet Sleep Experiment.
Soviet Sleep Experiment, based on the Creepypasta urban legend, tells the story of “Russian researchers who keep four patients awake using an experimental stimulant. When the experiment spirals out of control the subjects take matters into their own hands.”
The original Creepypasta tale had claimed that Soviet researchers had used an experimental stimulant back in the 1940s to keep five people awake for 15 consecutive days.
The cast for Soviet Sleep Experiment includes Eva De Dominici, Rafal Zawierucha, Chris Kattan, Evgeny Krutov, Michael Villar,...

J.D. Dillard’s Sleight is an anomaly for many reasons – least of which involves a body-hacking Iron Boy. How about perennial goofball Dulé Hill passing for a drug kingpin (which he does)? Or Jacob Latimore’s ability to wield magic with a coolness that escapes most street magicians? Seriously. How many dudes have ever successfully sparked a relationship with card tricks? Somehow Dillard makes it all work in this criminal caper about territory, respect and escaping the streets, turning sideshow gags into legitimate superhero escapism. It’s like Now You See Me, but with actual stakes. No Horsemen, just desperation cornered by circumstance.
Latimore plays Bo, an orphaned dropout whose sole focus is caring for little sister Tina (Storm Reid). By day, he stuns passerbys with sleight-of-hand illusions, and by night he deals drugs for Angelo (Dulé Hill). It’s not the life Bo chose – leaving an engineering scholarship behind...

"I can do something no one else can..." Blumhouse Tilt has released a brand new, full-length official trailer for an indie film titled Sleight, which premiered in the ultra-low budget Nexst section of the Sundance Film Festival last year. Sleight is about a street magician in Los Angeles who gives himself superpowers and takes on a local drug dealer to save his sister. Jacob Latimore plays Bo, with a full cast featuring Seychelle Gabriel, Dulé Hill, Storm Reid, Sasheer Zamata, Michael Villar, Brandon Johnson & Cameron Esposito. I wrote in my review "it's a fairly simple story, but the film is still awesome." I highly recommend seeing this film, mostly to support talented young directors and shoestring budget filmmaking. Check it out. Here's the new full-length trailer (+ new poster) for J.D. Dillard's Sleight, direct from YouTube: You can still see the first teaser trailer for Sleight here, to compare footage from these trailers.

Located in the dusty stretch of hell that lies between homage and pastiche, Mickey Keating’s “Carnage Park” is a lean, mean, motherfucker of a movie that confirms the young director’s outsized potential but fails to follow through on his most explicit promise. A twisted “true crime” story that’s heavily indebted to Quentin Tarantino and boasts all the historical validity of “Inglourious Basterds,” this gnarly gore-fest opens with the kind of reckless, apocryphal declaration that’s only made by geniuses or kids too young to know any better: “The film you are about to see is perhaps the most bizarre episode in the annals of American crime.” That’s a mighty big gauntlet to drop at the feet of an unsuspecting audience, but “Carnage Park” nearly lives up to its own hype — at least for a little while, anyway.

"How far does a scream travel out here, Wyatt?" "Not too far..." IFC Midnight has debuted the trailer for the "pure-pulp thrill ride" Carnage Park, directed by Mickey Keating. The film premiered in the Midnight section at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and is described as a "gritty, grisly homage to the glory days of grindhouse cinema." Carnage Park features Ashley Bell and Pat Healy as well as James Landry Hébert and Michael Villar. This trailer definitely has a grindhouse vibe with the saturated look, and seems like a great film to see at midnight in some old junky theater with a big bag of popcorn. Dive in. “How far does a scream travel out here, Wyatt?” We recently broke the news that IFC Midnight set a July 1st on demand and select theatrical release date for Mickey Keating’s Carnage Park, and now the first trailer for the anticipated horror thriller has been revealed.
Debuting on Blumhouse earlier today, the first trailer for Carnage Park offers a gruesome glimpse at the twisted playground of Wyatt (Pat Healy), a crazed killer and expert sniper who sets his sights on criminals Scorpion Joe (James Landry Hébert) and Lenny (Michael Villar), as well as their unlucky hostage, Vivian (Ashley Bell). Also starring in the film is Alan Ruck as the local lawman.
In addition the official trailer, we have a look at the new poster for the film (via Bloody Disgusting), which Daily Dead’s Heather Wixson called “a brutal masterpiece of tension and terror” after seeing it at Sundance.

Earlier this year, I attended the world premiere of Mickey Keating’s Carnage Park, which stunned audiences during the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. In just a short amount of time, Keating has established himself as a masterful genre storyteller, and his latest effort is a blisteringly taut masterclass in both tension and terror. Following its screening at SXSW, IFC Midnight acquired Us distribution rights to Carnage Park, and we have official word on when you can see the film for yourself.
Carnage Park will be heading to select theaters and will also be available on demand starting on Friday July 1st, with an additional theatrical rollout to follow in select cities. Directed and written by Mickey Keating, the film stars Ashley Bell, Pat Healy, Alan Ruck, Darby Stanchfield, Larry Fessenden, Graham Skipper, James Landry Hébert, and Michael Villar.

Like a speeding bullet through the dry, desert air comes Mickey Keating’s Carnage Park, a masterfully horrific true crime story about a loner psycho (Pat Healy) and the unfortunate woman by the name of Vivian (Ashley Bell), who ends up crossing his path one ill-fated day.
Taut, frenetic and pulsing with a ripened tension from beginning to end, Carnage Park is easily the best work from emerging filmmaker Mickey Keating and features sensational performances from its entire cast. With a sense of swagger and an unflinching pace, Carnage Park is truly a cinematic triumph from top to bottom.
