Archival Looks, Recycled Materials and Lab Grown Jewels Puts Spotlight on Sustainability at Met Gala
Fashion’s biggest night is star-studded event all around — usually with a focus on new clothes — but this year a less talked-about topic joined the conversation at the Met Gala in a big way: sustainability.
Monday night’s event kicked off with La La Anthony, a red carpet co-host for Vogue‘s livestream, proudly declaring that she was wearing “pre-loved vintage accessories” from eBay. The announcement set the stage for some of the celebrities who Anthony and her co-hosts, Gwendoline Christie and Ashley Graham, interviewed throughout the night who also showcased their sustainable red-carpet choices.
Designer Stella McCartney was joined by actress and model Cara Delevingne, singer FKA Twigs and singer Ed Sheeran on the Met Gala red carpet. The British designer created custom looks for each of her guests, all made from 100 percent sustainable materials.
The designer’s brand collaborated with sustainable jewelry company Vrai for Delevingne’s and Sheeran’s looks.

I don’t know about you, but for me, Zendaya is the queen of method dressing. She hasn’t missed a beat from Spider-Man to Dune: Part Two and now Challengers.
After serving us chic green and white looks during the movie’s Paris promotional run, Zendaya took things up a notch by sporting two amazing tennis-inspired ensembles for the Challengers photo call and premiere in Rome on Monday.
Zendaya Slays Tenniscore With Preppy Dress and Tennis Ball Heels by Loewe
Taking method dressing to new heights, Zendaya literally wore a tennis ball on her heels for the Challengers photocall in Rome. She’s quite dedicated, I must say!
Loewe, the Spanish label behind the viral quirky shoe collection of weird heels made of balloons, cracked egg, soap, and nail polish bottles, created Zendaya’s bizarre tennis pumps. Though I find it rather peculiar, they fit the event’s theme well.

Roger Federer — who’s about to get the sports doc treatment on Amazon — has had a busy few days in Los Angeles.
On March 10, he attended the Oscars for the second time with his wife Mirka, and afterward hit the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Two nights later, Federer and eyewear company Oliver Peoples threw a celebrity-studded dinner at Sunset Tower — attended by the likes of Trevor Noah, Sharon Stone, Edgar Ramirez, Maria Sharapova, Jay Ellis and Lindsey Vonn — to celebrate his new sunglasses line with the brand.
And while there’s no date yet set for his documentary, Federer recently saw a screening of the feature-length film, which is helmed by Oscar-winning director Asif Kapadia (Amy) and co-director Joe Sabia.

Naomi Osaka is back to tennis and is a different player right now as she approaches tennis and her career differently.
She still has the same skill set she always had, but for the most part, her attitude has changed quite a bit. Part of it was just stepping away from the sport and being able to really reflect. Part of it is becoming a more mature person by becoming a mother as well.
Everything that she does now includes her child, whom she wants to inspire by being the best possible role model she can be. She spoke about some of those attitudes after her loss in Brisbane, which cut short her first run back at the 2024 Brisbane International.
I think I'm enjoying myself a lot more, and I also realize there's a lot of things that aren't in my control. Maybe the ball that was in, I could have hit that.

Iga Swiatek has been named this year's highest-paid female athlete by Forbes and is the fourth Wta player to top the podium since this category was incepted in 2008.
Contrary to an earlier report published by Sportico, which placed American teenager star Coco Gauff at the top and Swiatek in second place, their positions have now changed based on Forbes' computation.
As per the latest numbers, Swiatek earned an estimated $23.9 million, which put her comfortably at the top ahead of 20-year-old freestyle skier Eileen Gu, who made $22.1 million. Gauff ranked in third place, amassing $21.7 million.
Swiatek was the Wta's top-performing player last season after winning six titles, including a third Roland Garros crown. The Polish star was the highest prize money earner on the women's tour, earning $9,857,686. Swiatek made just as much away from the court.

Former Wta No. 1 Karolina Pliskova recently spilled the beans about the current state of women's tennis, which she believes is lacking the aura and personalities of iconic players.
Plsikova, in an interview that was shared on X (formerly Twitter), is quoted admitting that the Wta has had a marketing problem since the retirement of Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.
Williams, 42, and Sharapova, 36, are two of the most influential and highly successful tennis players in history. And because of their inherent marketing appeal, both players were staunch ambassadors of several high-profile brands.
Their star power and global reach transcended the tennis landscape. Serena won 23 Grand Slams in singles in an illustrious playing career that lasted nearly three decades, and she was ranked No. 1 for over 300 weeks. She retired from professional tennis in 2022.
Sharapova, meanwhile, won five majors and touched the No. 1 spot during a 19-year playing career. According to Forbes, the...

Recently, Nick Kyrgios made an interesting statement that got many former tennis players, and tennis coaches talking.
Currently absent from the Atp Tour, the Australian has spent some time doing media duties, talking to multiple publications and appearing on numerous podcasts while recovering from an injury.
On one of those appearances, Kyrgios said that Novak Djokovic would destroy the likes of Pete Sampras, claiming that many former tennis greats would struggle in this era.
However, many quickly started discussing whether Kyrgios' comments were fair since eras are difficult to compare, and one of the former players who jumped in was Boris Becker, who immediately called out the Australian's "credibility."
But he wasn't the only one, as Serena Williams' former coach and former doubles world no. 1, Rennae Stubbs, also commented on the matter, supporting Becker's claims about eras being incomparable.

The highly talented Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva was named this year's Wta Newcomer of the Year thanks to her meteoric rise that culminated with a place in the world's Top 60.
Between 2022 and 2023, no player on the women's tour enjoyed a seismic climb into the Top 100 than Mirra Andreeva. A year ago, the 16-year-old was World No. 405 but soared as high as No. 46 (career-best ranking) during a remarkable 2023 season.
Andreeva is the fifth Russian to win this Wta award category, following the footsteps of Anna Kournikova (1996), Svetlana Kuznetsova (2002), Maria Sharapova (2003), and Daria Saville (2015) - who played under the Russian flag for six years before switching her nationality.
It has even escaped tennis fans' minds that Andreeva was plying her trade on junior events at the start of last season. She began the year on a high note, reaching the 2023 Australian Open girls' final, where she lost to compatriot Alina Korneeva.

In the ever-evolving world of tennis, rackets have played a crucial role in the sport's development, but five can be called "the most iconic."
Over the last two decades, several racket models have been introduced, with many getting a lot of popularity and recognition, influencing styles of play. However, only a few remained popular throughout the years, and we'll take a look at five of the most iconic tennis rackets of the 2000s.
5. Prince O3 White
One the most striking racket technologies of the last 20 years, O3 was developed by Prince to provide greater power and stability to the player, by incorporating large ports into the racket frame to increase string movement.
The result was a series of powerful, forgiving rackets with lively feel, and the most iconic of the series was perhaps the O3 white endorsed by Maria Sharapova. Interestingly, former world number four James Blake worked with Prince to develop O3 rackets,...

Maria Sharapova was one of the biggest stars we've had in recent memory, yet moving on from tennis wasn't hard for her.

Even though her life was dedicated to tennis, she didn't feel heartbroken over leaving the sport. As a very curious person with many interests outside of the court, Sharapova quickly found her passions after retiring and is enjoying life away from the sport right now.

John McEnroe appears to have ignited the mind games with Andre Agassi ahead of the second edition of the Pickleball Slam that will see the two tennis greats lock horns.

Coco Gauff is a very hard worker, and that's what's going to make her great, according to famous coach Rick Macci.
Macci has seen some big workers in his career, having coached Serena and Venus Williams, and some other prominent players such as Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick. He knows a hard worker when he sees one, and Gauff is certainly one of those.
It's always been like that and got her to where she is right now. Gauff didn't even take a lot of time off during the offseason, being already back in the lab working on her tennis.
Ultimately, being willing to put in the work matters most. The sport evolves, your competition evolves, and you will get overrun if you can't or won't keep up.
Macci has no worries when it comes to Gauff, as he revealed in an exclusive talk with Tennis Infinity, and it's why she's destined for greatness.

Serena Williams' controversial black bodysuit from the 2018 Roland Garros was recently featured in a high-end Parisian museum.

Formula One was in Abu Dhabi this weekend, and Ons Jabeur and Maria Sharapova took the opportunity to meet during the event as they both attended it.
Maria Sharapova is a legendary former Wta player who was one of the most popular tennis players ever. She's been retired for a while now but remains active in the public eye through her various business efforts, though not much related to tennis.
Ons Jabeur is one of the best players on the planet, who played in two consecutive Wimbledon finals and three Grand Slams finals overall. She was in Abu Dhabi this weekend for the Formula One race, the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and ran into Maria Sharapova in the stands.
The players are obviously familiar with one another, as Sharapova is a huge fan of what Jabeur has been doing in recent years. They shared a warm embrace, which was captured by cameras,...

Jannik Sinner's former coach, Riccardo Piatti, had some very nice words to say about the player following his Atp Finals final loss.
Sinner worked with Piatti in the past and spent a lot of time away from home at his Academy. It was a very good time for Sinner, who still returns to the Academy from time to time to greet the staff that essentially raised him as a young man.
Piatti is a well-known tennis coach who has worked with many great players like Maria Sharapova. He posted a letter for Sinner on social media after the Italian's loss to Novak Djokovic in the Atp Finals final. According to Piatti, he was requested to comment on the Italian's success.
Many people have asked me for a comment on Jannik's match yesterday and in general on his week at the Turin Finals. First, I publicly would like congratulate Jannik...

Andre Agassi was thankful that his tennis career had helped shape him into the person he is today, but he jokingly also mentioned it provided him a platform to "take money away" from John McEnroe.
Through tennis Agassi has endeared himself to many people both on and off the court through his charming personality and outgoing character. He also met his wife, the legendary Wta player Steffi Graf, whom he tied the knot with over two decades ago.
Andre Agassi is considered among the greatest tennis players in history, winning eight Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal during a glittering 20-year playing career. Speaking on the Pat MacAfee Show, the American reflected on his retirement with pride and dignity.
But he quickly changed the tune when he cracked the joke that because of his tennis career, he's now become a pickleball enthusiast and is now looking to "take money away" from John McEnroe.

“That’s like a billion dollars in Indiana.” That quip from Bobby Axelrod is one of the memorable lines in the series finale of “Billions,” the Showtime drama series that wrapped its seven-season run Oct. 27 with the crowd-pleasing episode “Admirals Fund.”
Axelrod, played by Damian Lewis, delivers that line as he takes a victory lap after demolishing his latest foil, rival hedge fund manager Mike Prince (Corey Stoll). It’s a reference to that fact that Prince, after an elaborate sting pulled off by Axelrod and the core “Billions” ensemble, is left wiped out but for $100 million he invested with Black-owned banks a few years ago. Axe’s comment and Prince’s broad smile suggest that the latter is headed to the Midwest to nurse his wounds and rise anew.

The new streamer will top out at $20 per month, and offers a wide range of sports from football to gymnastics.
It can be very difficult to find youth sports on even the most sports-forward streaming platforms. Services like Nfhs Network do a terrific job of streaming high school sports, but for lower levels of competition there simply aren’t that many services out there carrying a large selection.
NBC’s new SportsEngine Play is now available. Service offers “more than 30,000 youth sports organizations.” Users can access video editing tools to help create their own highlight reels.
NBC Sports Next, a subsidiary of NBC Sports has created a new streaming platform to help fill this programming gap. The streamer is called SportsEngine Play, and it offers live youth sports games, instructional videos from pro athletes like Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Phelps, and Maria Sharapova, and much more.

NBC Sports Next, a subsidiary of NBC Sports focused on golf as well as youth and amateur sports, has launched a new streaming outlet called SportsEngine Play.
The service is billed by the company as the first of its kind, providing a range of live and on demand video of youth and amateur sporting events and filling a void in a growing sector of American corporate and social life. While a number of digital players offer various features for youth and amateur team members and families, the market is fragmented and social media giants hosting youth sports video don’t offer bespoke services. SportsEngine Play, which is created on a foundation built by NBC Sports, is aiming to be a centralized hub for organizations, leagues, coaches and parents.
Recent estimates from analysts have pegged the global youth sports market at more than $37 billion, which is twice the size of the NFL.

The prize money disparity between the Atp and Wta has been a hot topic this year, and former player Maria Sharapova chimed in on it.
The Russian was never among those tennis players struggling with money because she was one of the best while she played. Being tremendously popular and an endorsement magnet certainly helped, but she's been able to live through the prize money disparity and considers it a real issue.
She's not the only one, as many players talked about it , and events are slowly taking steps to minimize it. It won't happen overnight and might take a long time, but it's better than nothing. Sharapova talked about the prize money disparity during the Bloomberg Screentime Conference.
Just this week, there’s a men’s tournament actually still happening in Shanghai with the Winner’s prize check of $1.2 million. In the same week, there’s a women’s...

Maria Sharapova believes tennis has an "engagement" problem and seemingly channeling her criticism on the Wta for failing to market its product and the players.
Speaking at a Bloomberg press conference, the former Wta No. 1 cited rising star Coco Gauff as a victim of the current circumstance. The 19-year-old rose to fame after winning her maiden Grand Slam at last month's US Open in front of her home crowd.
Winning a first Grand Slam tends to elevate a player's status as Sharapova can confidently attest to after beating Serena Williams to win Wimbledon in 2004. Players automatically gain cult-hero status due to an increased fan base. In addition, sponsors flock in packs waiting to sign up the next big superstar in the sport, not to forget the intense media scrutiny.
That's exactly how Sharapova's career turned in one glorious moment almost 20 years ago, and which Gauff lived through in the past...

Coco Gauff is a Grand Slam champion after the most recent US Open, and Maria Sharapova was happy to see her win her first Grand Slam on native soil.
Not many had Coco Gauff winning her maiden Grand Slam on their bingo card for 2023 and for much of this year, it was clear why. She was playing another stagnant season without any kind of real sense of improvement.
Her early Wimbledon loss to Sofia Kenin further highlighted that, but her incredible turnaround in the coming weeks was something to see. It culminated with the US Open run and the final , which Maria Sharapova didn't feel the match was of the highest quality. Even so, she was happy to see Gauff win.
Yes, yes, I couldn’t miss that, I just felt like it was a match that would.. seeing Coco on that stage and all the expectations from the beginning of the tournament umm.

Maria Sharapova knows what it's like to be a highly-touted teenager, but she thinks that Coco Gauff taking a bit longer to win her first Grand Slam will benefit the youngster.
There is no right way to have a tennis career, and everything is okay. Whether you broke out early and or took a long time like Stan Wawrinka did matters little. Both ways are okay, and for some, it's even a combination of long wait and youth.
Both Maria Sharapova and Coco Gauff have won a Grand Slam trophy. They were both teenagers when they did it , but the Russian thinks that Gauff doing it a bit later might actually be beneficial to her. Sharapova spoke about that in a recent appearance on the Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast .

Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova had some iconic moments together and one of those was actually a dinner once.
Djokovic and Sharapova have known each other since they were young tennis players on Tour. They've been quite friendly for a very long time, as they both used Head racquets and actually did a few commercials together for the brand.
Djokovic also became quite famous by doing an impression of Sharapova during his early days, which was a great source of banter between them. Now, Sharapova revealed another story about how they went to dinner after she lost a bet.
She revealed it in during a recent appereance in the Rennae Stubbs podcast .
Oh god, no, I have this funny story with Novak. I remember we had won our first Grand Slams, it was at the time he was getting there, getting to the top and his body was not at the level of his tennis.

Like the first edition, Pickleball Slam 2 will offer a $1 million prize money purse. The man who conceptualized the idea of staging this event is Horizon co-ceo David Levy, who is looking forward...

Tennis doping has once again entered professional and public discussion following a week of controversy surrounding Wta player Simona Halep .
After 12 months of provisional suspension, Halep was given a four-year ban from tennis for anti-doping charges. The Romanian tested positive for the banned substance, roxadustat at the 2022 US Open.
Halep's ban was enforced by the International International Tennis Integrity Agency (Itia). This is an independent organisation that oversees all cases of tennis doping cases in an attempt to ensure equality and integrity within professional tennis.
Since Halep received her extensive ban, which could signal the end of her career, players, and pundits have been divided on the sanction. Some have argued that the 31-year-old's tennis doping breaches warrant severe punishment and others believe the ruling is unfair.
Yet, Halep's case is just the latest in a long line of tennis doping scandals that have gripped the sport in recent decades.

Generative AI tech firm Metaphysic has finally announced its new system for what it claims could help actors and other individuals to navigate the creation and management of their personal data including their likeness and voice — while saying that early users include Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Paris Hilton and Maria Sharapova.
In January, the company unveiled a strategic partnership with CAA, the talent agency that reps Hanks, Wilson, Spencer and Hathaway.
Thursday’s Metaphysic announcement was light on details, but claims that this system, dubbed Metaphysic Pro, could effectively help actors to use generative artificial intelligence algorithms to create their own face, voice and performance data over time, as well as help “manage” how it is used by third parties, including consent, compensation and the thorny issue of copyright, which is still being examined in courts.

Canada's Eugenie Bouchard stirred up controversy by posting a cryptic but sly tweet on X that is seemingly directed at Romanian star Simona Halep .
On Tuesday, the tennis world was treated to the bombshell news that Halep, a former No. 1, was judged to have intentionally committed breaches of the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme and will serve an eyebrow-raising four-year suspension .
Bouchard is synonymous with her strong disapproval of players judged to have breached any anti-doping regulations. Earlier this year, she posted an unprovoked tweet aimed at Dayana Yastremska after defeating the Ukranian at the Wta 1000 event in Madrid (before she deleted it after receiving mixed reactions).
The tweet read: "There's something about playing dopers in Madrid," revisiting Yastremska's past for violating anti-doping regulations. The tweet also took aim at Maria Sharapova , whom Bouchard defeated at the same event back in 2017, shortly after the Russian returned from a 15-month suspension for testing positive for meldonium.

Wta legend Martina Navratilova was dismayed to find Maria Sharapova 's inclusion in a poll determining the best tennis female players of all time.
On Wednesday, a post by World of Statistics on X (formerly known as Twitter) asked users to name the best tennis female of all time in a four-woman shortlist including Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova and Maria Sharapova.
Navratilova reacted in shock and disdain and responded to the post, hinting Sharapova was unworthy to even be on the list in the first place. The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion asked fans not to bother voting. Although she didn't delve into detail, the list does look extremely skewed, with a handful of names with a more ostentatious tennis CV being left out.
The other three players in the list have each won 18 or more Grand Slam singles titles, while players such as Chris Evert and Wta...

Maria Sharapova is best known as a very good tennis player, but it was never the only thing she wanted to do in her life.
Sharapova's journey in tennis was a very interesting one. She was known as a pretty big talent fairly early , and many wondered what kind of career she would have. It ended up being a very good one, though possibly not as good as some predicted.
The Russian found success pretty early in her career but then struggled to replicate that same success consistently. Her being willing to look past the sport didn't really help her as she explained in a recent interview.
When I gained success at a young age, I was genuinely surprised by how much interest there was in my life in every single lane.
I’ve had to stand up for myself many times. It wasn’t popular to be more than...

Iga Swiatek won't be the highest-ranked player on the Wta Tour on Monday after the 2023 US Open , as she'll lose the spot to Aryna Sabalenka .
For over a year, it seemed that no one would be able to stop the 22-year-old Pole from occupying the top spot in the Wta Rankings . However, times changed, and Aryna Sabalenka had a chance to dethrone Swiatek at almost every event that they played recently .
Another one of those chances came at the 2023 US Open, and the Belarusian needed to do one simple thing to overcome Swiatek in the rankings, reach the same round as her opponent. That happened on Saturday, when Sabalenka defeated Clara Burel , and the ball was on Swiatek's side.
However, the current world no. 1 couldn't defeat Jelena Ostapenko in her fourth-round match , meaning that regardless of the result of Sabalenka's match against Russia's Daria Kasatkina on Sunday, she will become...
