Among several notable roles, she portrayed the role of Allie Pressman in The Society, a mystery drama series on Netflix. There's been a change of plans at Netflix. The streaming service previously renewed The Society TV series for a second season. Now, those plans have been cancelled due to Covid-19.
A mystery drama, The Society stars Rachel Keller, Kathryn Newton, Alex Fitzalan, Kristine Froseth, Jacques Colimon, Sean Berdy, Toby Wallace, Gideon Adlon, Olivia DeJonge, Alex MacNicoll, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jose Julian, Salena Qureshi, Jack Mulhern, and Grace Victoria Cox. This modern retelling of Lord of the Flies centers on students from a wealthy New England enclave, who return home from a scrubbed camping trip to find everyone they left behind has vanished. While at first, they decide to take advantage of the situation, it soon becomes clear they need to establish some sort of social order, while they figure out what has happened to them and where they really are.

Updated: Following The Society’s surprise cancellation Friday, star Kathryn Newton posted a photo of her castmates with the caption “I Am Proud #TheSociety”, on Twitter Friday. (You can see it below.)
Newton later went live on Instagram, joined by co-star Gideon Adlon, to directly address the show’s fans.
“I’m heartbroken, so heartbroken,” Newton said in the video. (You can watch it below)
Added Adlon, “It’s definitely a bit of a gut-punch… “It’s a big bummer. But this is the way things work sometimes. We have no control over it.”
Newton noted that “we all really wanted to go back” into production on Season 2 amid the pandemic. “Everything was written. I can’t even believe it,” she added, a reference to the completed scripts for the previously greenlighted second season.
The Society had been eying a production start date next month, something Adlon alluded to.

A pair of freshmen series has been dropped from Netflix’s lineup — including one that had already scored a second season.
Teen mystery The Society and coming-of-age dramedy I Am Not Okay With This have both been axed at the streamer, according to our sister site Deadline. Netflix confirmed in a statement that the cancellations were swayed by the coronavirus pandemic, which impacted production schedules and budgets on both series.

“The Society” will not return for a second season as planned at Netflix, while the streamer is also not moving forward with a second season of “I Am Not Okay With This,” Variety has confirmed.
“I Am Not Okay With This” had been renewed after its first season aired back in February, but its renewal had not been announced. “The Society” had been picked up for a second season last July. The team behind “I Am Not Okay With This” had already begun work on writing a second season.
According to an individual with knowledge of the decisions, both shows were well liked internally at Netflix in addition to the critical acclaim they received upon release, but the plug was pulled on both due to the uncertainty around when they could begin production due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic also leading to added budget increases for health and safety reasons.

Exclusive: Netflix has reversed its Season 2 renewal decision for The Society. The Ya drama, whose production was impacted by Covid-19, has been canceled and won’t film a second season. Additionally, Netflix has opted not to proceed with a second season of another coming-of-age series, I Am Not Okay With This.
While there had been no official renewal, I hear comedy-drama I Am Not Okay With This had been quietly picked up for a second season, scripts were written, and it was fully on track to go into production.

Netflix may have built its original series initially around adults, but these days, it really loves teens — especially teens who behave badly. That’s the cornerstone of “The Society,” a series constructed around the premise of what happens to 200 teenagers who think they’re going on a school field trip, and are instead deposited in a carbon copy version of their small town, except with no adults and no younger children around.
Things aren’t too bad at first for the teens — the power is still on, and there’s a supermarket full of food — but the situation quickly takes on new urgency as they slowly realize that they’ve been completely cut off from the rest of the world. How, exactly, the teens ended up in this mirror universe is one question that only sort of haunts the series, as eventually the mystery behind its premise gets de-emphasized in...

The Netflix teen drama has almost become a genre in and of itself. Between offerings such as “On My Block,” “Sex Education,” “13 Reasons Why,” and syndicated CW staples like “Riverdale,” the streaming network has found a solid niche in exploring the everyday lives of teenagers, in all their flailing, moody glory.
“The Society,” Netflix’s compelling new drama from “Party of Five” co-creator Christopher Keyser, takes a grab bag of teen tropes and mixes it with “Lord of the Flies” and a vague dose of supernatural intrigue for good measure. Its premise even manages to sidestep the question of what to do with the parents, a typical teen show consideration that some shows (like “Riverdale”) answer by folding the older generation into the action just as much as their scheming kids. “The Society,” by contrast, banishes the adults altogether — and indeed, anyone but the central teens, period.

Young-adult fiction often poses the question of what would happen if kids found themselves without the guiding hands of adults.
Do they emulate what they have seen before or do things crumble down around them?
The Society is the latest such piece of young-adult entertainment that ponders all of those questions, and it manages to do it quite nicely.
The Society's creator is Christopher Keyser who co-created another show that explored similar themes, Party of Five.
While Party of Five featured a close-knit group pulled together when the parents of five children get killed, The Society features a larger group who also seem to have lost their parents -- and everyone else who lived in their town and perhaps the world.
Review: Chambers is An Inspired Thriller that Goes Off the Rails
An occurrence in their town results in all high-school-age kids getting shuffled off to an impromptu school camping excursion.

A bunch of teens get a renewed sense of freedom in Netflix's new drama series...
There's a new Netflix series on the way in a couple of weeks that could be worth a watch. The Society - sadly nothing to do with Brian Yuzna's body horror classic, Society - is aiming for a The 100 meets Lord Of The Flies kinda vibe, as a group of teenagers are "mysteriously transported" to a strange version of their home town that has the added bonus (for some) of "no parents."
Soon, the kids' off the chain approach to living descends into dangerous territory, as they try to piece together why they're at the centre of these strange events, and how to get back to reality.

Netflix caters very well to the younger crowd.
But in doing so, they never lose sight of the other audience members who might tune into one of their shows.
The Society can be compared to a modern-day Lord of the Flies, and you know how that story resonated with anyone who read it (or watched adaptations).

The first teaser for the upcoming Netflix series “The Society” might make parents think twice about leaving their teenage children home alone.
Described as a modern take on “Lord of the Flies,” the series follows a group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to a place identical to their wealthy New England town — but their parents are nowhere to be found.
“Mom, it’s me again. Where is everyone?” a teenage girl asks as she leaves her unresponsive mother a voicemail as Billie Eilish’s “Bury a Friend” plays in the background.

Remember a day when those that had any type of disability would have been held back or in some way discriminated against? In those days guys like Sean Berdy might not have risen to prominence as he has but might have instead been told they would never amount to anything and then ignored. But thankfully in this era we tend to encourage people that have what some would call handicaps and others would call natural birth defects that happen on occasion. Sean Berdy is one of those folks that has taken what he was born with and worked with it

The Kennish/Vasquez clan said their goodbyes on tonight's series finale of Freeform's Switched at Birth, and it was both a beautiful ending and a beautiful beginning for the entire family. Bay (Vanessa Marano) decided that instead of moving to Japan with Travis (Ryan Lane), they would continue their relationship long distance, and her ex Emmet (Sean Berdy) would go with him in her place, which makes sense, given that Travis' vision of her in Japan mostly included meditation and temple visiting, and she was starting to make strides in the tattoo world. Daphne (Katie Leclerc), meanwhile, was totally shut down in an interview for an orthopedic surgery internship, but she reunited with Mingo (Adam...

We all have them. Families.
Whether they're abundant and generations are still in existence or if there are only a couple of you who make your world go around, odds are somewhere, someplace, there's someone you'd probably like to hide from on the holidays!
In the '70s and '80s it was difficult not to find a family's drama on television, but in the 2000s family drama got kicked aside for more violent pursuits. There may be families, but first there was a crime or a crime family. It became all about law and order.
This list isn't about mob families, or procedural dramas that feature families, but about shows where the family comes first.
One interesting note, though, is that six of these series feature the natural or accidental death of a loved one near the beginning to kick the drama into high gear. Nothing like death to bring a family together.

One could easily lump Switched at Birth in among the ranks of the typical melodramatic soapy family dramas, wrought with teen angst, but to do so would be a mistake: Switched at Birth has much more inimitable qualities, placing it above the average-teen centered drama. It’s not only entertaining, but also compelling and thoughtful television. At the core of the series is the unique relationship between the two very different female leads who are both equally the protagonist of the series. Theirs is a relationship unlike any other on TV, as they have essentially been living each other’s life.

"Switched at Birth" has been renewed for Season 4. Only days before airing the hit series' third season finale, ABC Family has announced that the Peabody and TCA Award-winning series will be returning next year with a new batch of episodes. “Fans will be clamoring for season four and to know what happens with Daphne and Bay after the season three finale next week,” said ABC Family President Tom Ascheim in a statement. In less positive news, the network's freshman drama "Twisted" starring Avan Jogia, Maddie Hasson, Kylie Bunbury, Ashton Moio and Denise Richards has been canceled. The Season 1 finale (and ultimately series finale) of the Adam Milch-created series aired back in April to unencouraging ratings. "Switched at Birth" tells the story of Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne (Katie Leclerc), two teenage girls who discover they were mixed up at the hospital as newborns.
