A couple weeks ago on episode 4 of the current 16th season of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” the show opened with 18-year-old twin brothers, Trent and Colton Edwards, contemporary dancers with flair to spare who are based in Pittsburgh. They explained that they only took up dancing three years ago. However, they also added that they had musical theater experience, which they said provided the equivalent of Tsa PreCheck when it came to taking on dance. Cute, huh?
The good-looking twosome instantly charmed the judges with their talkative personalities as cheeky Colton confessed that he was the evil twin of the two. Their “Sytycd” performance (see clip above) was quite a showstopper and even caused judge Mary Murphy to let loose with one of her sonic shrieks of glee. Of course, they were given a golden ticket to the Academy.

For a show that’s all about good vibrations and international warm fuzzies, The Voice can sometimes be a frustrating mistress.
Take, for example, the Season 4 Knockout Rounds, where Adam Levine and Shakira all too often pitted their best singers against each other in sudden-death faceoffs, while allowing lesser vocalists to slip into the live voting rounds like mold on the underside of a package of blackberries. (Yeah, I know, that metaphor didn’t quite work, but at three bucks a container, you’d think those juicy little treats would last more than 24 hours in the fridge. Sheesh!)

Can you call 911 and report a non-robbery? Because that’s kinda sorta what I feel like doing after watching a pair of awesome vocalists get booted, then left to languish on the side of the road without a patented “Steal” from a competing coach, during The Voice‘s Battle Rounds tonight.
I can’t be alone in scratching my head that spunky Jessica Childress and growl-monster Patrick Dodd won’t be part of the Season 4 Knockout Rounds, right? Especially when the sweet-yet-pedestrian C. Perkins somehow hit the reality singing competition Powerball and got a second chance on Team Usher.

Practically every second of American Idol provides juicy fodder for conspiracy theorists, paranoid superfans and hardcore cynics on their second glasses of sauvignon blanc.
Take, for example, the Season 12 Top 8 results telecast: As the five remaining ladies and three surviving guys teamed up for a performance of Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll,” I wondered to myself, who’s going to be stuck with the line, “say I’m old-fashioned, say I’m over the hill”? And will that be the tipoff as to who’s walking the plank and joining the “Eighth-Place Club” alongside Jon Peter Lewis,...

"The Voice" may have only been an hour in its second outing of the season, but it still managed to pack plenty of great music in that time. It also featured some great competition between the coaches as they fought for their favorite contestants. One contestants seemed like it was a no-brainer which coach he wanted. After all, he did perform a Maroon 5 song.
Josiah Hawley tackled "Sunday Morning" and he did get Adam Levine to turn his chair. But Adam wasn't alone when he did so, as both Blake Shelton and Usher were also on board for the 27-year-old singer. Even Adam thought -- hoped? -- he had this one in the bag. His closing argument was, "I’ll say one thing. You picked my song."
But while Josiah did pick Adam's song, he picked Usher to coach him into the next round. Usher was so excited, he...

Have I ever mentioned that Shakira’s “She Wolf” is in my iTunes “Top 25 Most Played” list? (Okay, maybe it’s even in my Top 10. But don’t judge me unless you’ve heard it full blast while doing the “ah-ooooh!” at the top of your lungs during a road trip.)
I’m even prouder of my Shakira obsession after another delightful showing on Episode 2 of The Voice‘s Season 4 Blind Auditions. But wait — we interrup this recap with breaking news from Idoloonie HQ!

There’s this weird part of the week — from Friday morning till Monday evening — when not a single major TV network airs a reality singing competition. It’s terrible, I know, but it also gives me a lot of time to ponder American Idol history. (Everyone does this in their free time, yes?) And my latest flight of Idol fancy got me mulling this question: Was Season 11′s Top 10 the strongest — top to bottom — in show history? Let’s examine:
For starters, I’d automatically rule out the five seasons with three or more Top 10 contestants who probably wouldn’t have outlasted Season 11′s No.

The Season 10 premiere of "American Idol" is less than a week away and to make the days go by a bit faster, Zap2it decided to take a stroll down memory lane and re-evaluate the previous nine seasons.
Each day leading up to the premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 19, we will post a retrospective on each season. We're breaking it down into four categories: Best Performance, Worst Performance, Most Underrated Idol and most Overrated Idol. At the end, we will decide how the season stacks up against the rest, rating it as great, good, or not-so-good.
We've looked back at Season 1 (yay Kelly!) and Season 2 (aww, Clay and Ruben!) and now it's time to take a look back at the black hole of "American Idol." And don't even try to act like that's not a true statement in the year where Fantasia beat Diana DeGarmo.

Opinions have been largely negative surrounding the ninth season of Fox's hit singing competition show -- but is this really the worst season in "American Idol" history? We don't think so.
We think this is more a case of the collective "Idol" viewing audience having some short-term memory loss. Sure, in comparison to the David vs. David showdown of two years ago and the spectacle that was Adam Lambert coupled with whiskey-voiced Allison Iraheta and cutie-pie Kris Allen, Season 9 seemed a little boring.
But let's not forget the seasons prior to seven and eight. Do you even remember the black hole that was Season 3?
Season 9's Paige Miles is arguably the best 11th-place finisher ever, with the possible exception of Alexis Grace. Unfortunately for Paige, the week she was eliminated she was very obviously sick and had had no exposure prior to the Top 24, thus no fan base to get her through the rough patch.

It makes perfect sense that "American Idol" would pick Elvis Presley as a theme this season. Like Elvis, "Idol" was once a young, fresh, exciting force that changed music and television. Now it's a bloated carcass of its former self that will probably end up dead on a toilet one of these days. (For the sake of argument, let's call the seventh and eighth seasons of "Idol" their version of the "'68 Comeback Special.")
In a move that raised some eyebrows, producers enlisted last year's runner-up Adam Lambert to mentor the top nine. Sure, the guy didn't win, and apparently he's not selling as many records as Ken Warwick had hoped, but Lambert knows how to use the "Idol" machine to maximize buzz and court media attention while on the show. Let's face it: Although Adam has one of the best voices in music today, why should he waste his...

Another day, another American Idol alum performs on the Great White Way. It was announced today that Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo will star in Hair on Broadway beginning March 9. And the two former reality show stars are certainly familiar with being on stage -- Young starred in the Broadway production of Grease, while DeGarmo headlined Hairspray. But they aren't the only ones. It's no secret that Broadway has become the ultimate destination for most ex-Idols who couldn't quite find their footing in the recording industry. First we had Frenchie Davis in Rent. Then Fantasia starred in The Color Purple.

Amidst the on-going controversy addressed to Adam Lambert following his provocative performance at the 2009 American Music Awards (AMAs) over the weekend, some "American Idol" alumni break their silence to offer what they have in mind regarding the much-talked gig. Fifth season finalist, Kevin Covais, tells Us Weekly he has no problem with it. "After watching him take risks on Idol, it was about what I expected," Kevin says in a statement. "Despite being a bit risque, I don't feel like it pushed the envelope that much further from what we normally see these days, especially on primetime television. I see no reason why he should be punished by ABC."
Jim Verraros, one of the top 10 finalists in the first season of "Idol", is the other person who offers comment for Adam. Also a gay himself, Jim muses "We need this, and we need him. We need to have him out...

Last night American Idol finalists Kris Allen and Adam Lambert took the stage for the last time, joined by former contestants and big stars alike. Nicole Richie enjoyed her dad's duet with Danny Gokey with Joel and her little sister Sophia, while Victoria and Romeo Beckham took seats in the audience as well. As promised, the night was full of fun surprises from Kara's surprise sing along (and smokin' hot bikini body - who knew?) to an awesome rendition of "We Are the Champions" featuring Queen. Other favorites were Fergie getting down with the Black Eyed Peas and Allison singing "Time After Time" with Cyndi Lauper - what was your favorite moment? Of course, the biggest surprise of the night may have been Kris's big win, and no one looked more shocked than the new idol himself. Whether or not you agree with the results, both Adam and Kris proved...

Los Angeles — The "American Idol" red carpet has to be especially surreal for all the returning "Idol" contestants, kind of like the first day of high school. The vets from the early seasons are the seniors, and the season-eight kids are the naïve freshmen.
For season-six runner-up Blake Lewis, it's that dynamic that brought him out for Wednesday night's (May 20) big finale. "I'm back here, hanging out with friends, seeing the new class," he laughed.
But fellow seasonf-six finalist Lakisha Jones had her own analogy: "It's like a family reunion, without the barbecue."

Adam Lambert's forgotten cameos in Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs
The closest I've ever gotten to watching a full season of American Idol was the third season, back when Sanjaya was pronounced Jon Peter Lewis and Jennifer Hudson was setting the foundation for her name being synonymous with losing a talent competition and going on to have a huge career anyway.
Back then, the series memorably had Quentin Tarantino appearing to mentor the finalists and perform as guest-judge when they sang songs from the movies. Next week, Tarantino returns to Idol to revisit the movie theme. It's a welcome return, especially considering that during his last visit we enjoyed the hilarity of Tarantino being censored for saying "effing".
Last week, Adam Lambert performed a version of Tears for Fears' "Mad World" that was used Donnie Darko, so with that possibility eliminated, what do you think Adam will perform?
