Sky registered its biggest audience numbers of all time in 2020, Sky UK’s Managing Director of Content Zai Bennett revealed today. Deadline has confirmed that overall figures were up 20% year-on-year across all platforms for the broadcaster’s entertainment offerings (not including news and sport).
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Bennett said that Sky had outperformed the wider TV biz for growth during a 12-month period that saw broadcasters benefit from people being stuck at home during lockdowns. “We outgrew the market which was really satisfying,” he commented. “2020 was our biggest viewing year of all time.”
The MD also addressed the fallout from the scandal that saw Noel Clarke accused of multiple instances of sexual misconduct in an investigation by UK newspaper The Guardian. Since then, Sky severed ties with the actor/director and the company introduced new safeguarding rules and training across all of its productions.

Sky is closing one of its two Sky Arts channels in the summer.
From June 9, the two channels will become a single "super channel" in an effort to increase audiences and reduce repeats.
The new channel will also move higher up the service's Epg page.
Head of Sky Arts Phil Edgar-Jones told The Guardian: "I have argued for quite a long time we should have one Sky Arts channel, not two. I didn't see the sense when we can do one super channel effectively."
He also said that none of the current channel's programming - which includes A Young Doctor's Notebook and Playhouse Presents - will be dropped.
"That's the beauty of this, we are repeating less, structuring the week differently," Edgar-Jones said.
"Being on page three [of the Epg] we'll have more eyeballs, footfall. It is hard to predict exactly [how audiences will increase], but up to 30%."

Big Brother 11 launches tonight and as the series draws to a close later this summer, the winner will compete in a extra special two week series titled ‘Big Brother Ultimate Champion.’
The competition will then kick off between around twelve former Big Brother housemates, to include some from the celebrity version of the show. As soon as Big Brother 11 draws to a close, the winner will be joined by their new housemates and the group will compete in tasks and public votes. In the end one will be crowned the ‘Ultimate Champion’ of Big Brother UK.
The lineup is thought to include Nadia Almada and Brian Dowling and judging from their comments yesterday, we’d say that Nick Bateman and Craig Phillips are sure to show up too.
Show boss Phil Edgar-Jones told The Sun: “It’s a bittersweet moment with Big Brother ending, but the Ultimate Champion will ensure we end on a high.

Tonight, the official Bb website released the following pictures with a statement saying:
You may have heard the news that a very special housemate called ‘Bob Righter’ will be joining the Big Brother House this year.
Very little is known about Bob or his motives at this stage and even Big Brother Executive Producer Phil Edgar-Jones isn’t revealing much.
“He’s going to be waiting in the lounge for the housemates when they arrive. I can’t say anything more than that. He is just one of many surprises up our sleeve this year”.

George Lamb has promised the last series of 'Big Brother's Little Brother' will be ''revolutionary''. The TV hunk admits the daily episodes will be different from the usual format, with no audience and new co-host Emma Willis. He said: ''The start of the last series of 'Big Brother' - more importantly of 'Bblb'. It's going to be different from anything you've seen before. The big boss man, Phil Edgar Jones, told everybody that if you've seen it before put it in the bin, start again, think naturally, think differently. Everything you're going to see - the set, how we do the show, there's ..

Former Big Brother housemates Craig Phillips and Nick Bateman have hinted that they may be returning to the show this summer.
Big Brother 11 kicks off tomorrow night on Channel 4 and executive producer Phil Edgar Jones teased us last week, saying that we could expect to see some ‘familiar faces’ in the house.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Front Row programme, former winner Craig Phillips and ‘Nasty’ Nick Bateman admitted:
“We might show our face in there, yes.”
Both men went on to agree that the final series should have centered around the show’s 10 previous winners,as well as other famous housemates including Nick himself.
“Perhaps even a Big Brother worldwide with the most notable contestants might work,” said Bateman.
“But that’s for the producers or a new channel to explore.”
Would you welcome Craig and Nick back into the house? Would you have liked to...

A very special housemate named Bob Righter will be waiting for the newest Big Brother group when they enter the house this Wednesday night.
Giving very few details away, Big Brother executive producer Phil Edgar Jones told The Daily Star: “He’s going to be waiting in the lounge for the housemates when they arrive. I can’t say anything more than that.
“You’ll have to tune in to the launch to see who he is.
“He is just one of many surprises up our sleeve this year.”
One thing we can reveal is that Bob Righter is an anagram for Big Brother, which has sparked speculation that he may be some sort of robotic creation.

During our visit to the Big Brother house yesterday, Executive Producer Phil Edgar Jones remained tight lipped on who we can expect to see entering the house next week, but he did give one thing away…….we can expect to see some familiar faces in there.
As we toured the all new, and can we say rather pretty house, Jones said:
“There are loads of other things happening on launch night. But I’m not going to tell you them all yet. Quite a few other things, actually. We’ll meet some old friends.”
Old friends? Like old housemates? Apparently not…..he continued:
“When I say you are going to see familiar faces, I don’t necessarily mean in the housemates.”
He added: “There will be all sorts of familiar faces, In the house… there may be a familiar face. Wait and see. I’ll leave it at that.

Big Brother bosses have revealed that they have pulled out ‘all the stops’ for the final series of the show which kicks off next Wednesday.
In a twist to the usual format, attending next week’s launch show will be more hopefuls than the house can hold. In front of the cameras and the baying crowd each of the hopefuls will find out their fate. Will Big Brother select them to spend a summer in front of the cameras or will they have to head home with their bag still packed?
The new Housemates will be selected one by one and allowed into the Big Brother house to begin what could be the most exciting and unpredictable few weeks of their lives. But the surprises won’t stop there.
Commissioning Editor for Channel 4 David Williams said: “This may be Big Brother’s swan song on Channel 4, but I...

What is your role on Celebrity Big Brother?
I’m the Executive Producer. My role is to come up with a vision for the show – the look and the feel of it, to put a cast together and steer a way through it. I work closely with Phil (Philip Edgar Jones), the creative director, and oversee all the different elements of it. We look after the launch show, nominations, how we change things, the tasks, and hopefully deliver a compelling show.
This being the last ever Celebrity Big Brother, are there plans afoot to give it a spectacular send-off?
I hope so! We’ve tried really hard to look at the show with fresh eyes to assess what we can improve upon, and what we can change, especially with this being the last one. We have introduced some changes, in the house, in the tasks, and with the launch show,...

Big Brother executive producer Phil Edgar-Jones has admitted that host Davina McCall is "obsessed" with the Channel 4 show. Presenting McCall with the reality legend award at last night's Digital Spy Reality TV Awards, Edgar-Jones claimed that part of McCall's success in the programme is down to her passion for the contestants. "Davina's been there since the beginning and what's brilliant about Davina is that she's a brilliant presenter and interviewer and she's also obsessed with the show. She watches it and we can't get her off the phone (more)...
