The Tudor dynasty is the TV gift that just keeps on giving. Ever since the breakout hit of Showtime's 2007 period drama "The Tudors," many a network has followed in their footsteps by sinking some cash into the world of frilled shirts, looming castles, and royal extravagance. The only thing more exciting than the realism and royal schadenfreude of "The Crown" is when you mix political and personal drama, dial up the dramatics and make it extra sexy. Over the years, the result has been a dozen different period dramas taking this approach (hence our post-"Bridgerton" world).
But "Becoming Elizabeth" offered a refreshing change of pace. Though it once again traces the Tudor story through the eyes of Queen Elizabeth I, the series created by Anya Reiss prioritizes Elizabeth's personal experience over the epic history being made in her lifetime.

Exclusive: Starz has canceled its freshman drama Becoming Elizabeth, Deadline has confirmed.
According to Live+Same Day Nielsen data, the series failed to capture audiences meaningfully; its premiere August 12 was the most-watched episode but only mustered 158,000 total viewers. In the weeks following, episodes continued to lose viewers, with the average L+Sd viewership for the season at 136,000.
Among the audience it did maintain, most were not within the ad-friendly 18-49 demographic. Becoming Elizabeth averaged a 0.01 demo rating throughout the season, and only two episodes (the premiere and one other) were able to climb to a 0.02.
The series created by Anya Reiss followed the early life of Queen Elizabeth I of England (portrayed by Alicia von Rittberg), an orphaned teenager who becomes embroiled in the politics of the English court on her journey to secure the crown. With no clear heir, the death of King Henry VIII sets into motion a dangerous scramble for power.

Exclusive: The BBC is developing a small screen adaptation of Michael Ondaatje’s novel The English Patient.
The British public broadcaster is in the early stages of development of the drama project, which comes from Run and Taboo writer Emily Ballou. It is a co-production between Miramax Television and Paramount Television Studios.
Deadline understands that the drama series represents a new interpretation of Ondaatje’s book, which follows four dissimilar people brought together at an Italian villa during World War II, and not a remake of the 1996 Miramax feature film adaptation directed by Anthony Minghella that won nine Oscars including Best Picture.
The book, which was published in 1992, follows a unrecognisably burned man — the eponymous patient, presumed to be English — his Canadian Army nurse, a Sikh British Army sapper and a Canadian thief. Set behind the North African and Italian campaigns of the Second World War, the book is told...

Humans, Season One, “Episode Five”
Written by Emily Ballou
Directed by Lewis Arnold
Airs Sundays at 9 pm (Et) on AMC
Since the beginning of the season, Leo has been single-minded in his search for Mia, a search that finally brought him and Max in contact with Mattie last week. Similarly, Mattie’s initial anger towards synths and their ability to replace humans has been replaced with a genuine level of curiosity and care for Anita, particularly after getting a glimpse of Mia. This week’s episode formally cements Mattie’s turn to an ally of Leo and Anita/Mia, in a strong episode that benefits greatly from bringing some characters together and adding further dimensions to others.
The combination of Niska and Dr. Millican is one that is ripe with possibility, some of which already gets explored in this week’s episode. Despite his proclaimed aversion to synth consciousness,...
