As someone who loved Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson‘s Spring to the point of seeking out everything else they had done before that point, hearing about a new work debuting at Tribeca got me excited to see what they would deliver. My assumption was that it was the Aleister Crowley picture they spoke about when I interviewed them last year — I was wrong. While that discovery wasn’t surprising considering how long projects gestate, it was shocking to discover The Endless proved to be a sequel to their first feature collaboration Resolution.
They have created a film around the characters they played themselves: Aaron and Justin, UFO cult members. Would this new tale ten years later be only tangentially related through these characters or would the mythos be the same? If the latter, would it bring back the “monster,” locale, and supporting cast? These are important questions to ask,...

From Super Mario Bros to Devil May Cry, we delve into the past to pick out 7 games that changed considerably as they were developed...
Odd List
The complex process of making a game requires the coordination of programmers, artists, designers, musicians and accountants. It's little surprise, then, that things can change drastically over the course of the months or even years it takes to make a game, and history is littered with examples of this.
Take, for example, Team Fortress 2, a shooter that went through multiple iterations and even changes in art style before the final version became a popular success. There are far, far too many other examples to list here, so what we've done is whittle our selection down to the ones we either found the most interesting or the most significant from a historical point of view.
It's fair to say that, without most of the...

Imitation of Life: James’ Sci-Fi Thriller Plumbs Dark Recesses of A.I.
While its ingenious ideas are sometimes marred by obvious budgetary limitations, director Caradog W. James’ second feature, The Machine is a highly enjoyable and brooding sci-fi flick in the philosophical vein of Blade Runner, with a smattering of other similarly minded or styled classics, such as Lang’s Metropolis heavy on its mind. Even though it sometimes looks like a film that seems tailor made for the Syfy Channel, James still manages to create an appropriate atmosphere with its cavernous, dimly lit underground bunkers. An arresting and ambient score reminiscent of Vangelis and early John Carpenter is complimentary to its simple yet hypnotic spell.
In the not too distant future, the UK seems to be languishing in the throes of the preapocalypse as the Western world is heavily engaged in a Cold War with China. The government...

Late November. A field in Italy. Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, producer David Lawson, the actors and crew of the film Spring have arrived to shoot the final scene. This is the day: they must get the shot, and it must be a clear sky. While it was raining in Polignano (their shooting base), the weather apps on everyone's phones said it would be sunny. But the rain continued, and when they arrived at the location, it was a torrential downpour. While the forecast teased them with the icon of bright yellow sun, the sky showed only grey. The guys were getting desperate and ready to sacrifice something or someone to the ancient Roman gods. Mario, the 1st Assistant Director, told them that another...

If there was one indie horror thriller that had the festival circuit buzzing last year, it would have to be Resolution, and we recently had the opportunity to chat with co-directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead as well as producer David Lawson and stars Peter Cilella and Vinny Curran.
In Resolution (review here) Michael (Cilella) is committed to getting his best friend Chris (Curran) to sober up and get his life back on track. But what begins as an attempt to save his friend’s life quickly takes an unexpected turn as the two friends confront personal demons, the consequences of past actions, and forces beyond their control.
The film is an ably conceptualized mix of horror and comedy that has many hopeful horror fans anxiously waiting to catch its VOD release on January 23rd from Tribeca Film and in select theaters beginning January 25th. Just like the film itself,...

If Magazine asked Saville about his plans after he won two Australian Directors. Guild Awards: for the mini-series cloudstreet and for Harry.s episode in The Slap in the category for drama series.
He only answered in terms of features . later suggesting that perhaps he only has the stamina to get to 100 pages . but made it very clear how important television is to him.

Tribeca Films has acquired the North American rights to the thriller Resolution. The distribution company plans to release the film, which premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Fantasia International Film Festival, in early 2013. The roll out will include a festival run and then a theatrical and on-demand release. Directed by Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson from a screenplay by Benson, Resolution tells the sometimes raw and sometimes-horrific tale of a cold turkey attempt that takes some very unexpected turns. Benson and David Lawson produced Resolution. The deal was negotiated by Nick Savva, Tribeca Film’s Director of Acquisitions and Nate Bolotin and Aram Tertzakian of Xyz Films for the filmmakers.

Well, last night Tribeca came to a close with a screening of The Avengers -- that quaint little indie flick about a group of misfits doing misfitty things. We here at Twitch aren't quite done with the festival yet. Tomorrow catch our wrap-up from the NYC crew on the highs, lows and in-betweens of the 11th edition of Tff. In the meantime, please amuse yourself by watching this farewell video the directors of big Tribeca discovery Resolution Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson made, along with their producer David Lawson. It is heartfelt, absurd, disturbing... and at just one minute long, too darn short. ...
