Darren Lynn Bousman, who has directed several films in the “Saw” franchise, will direct the first film as part of a new horror franchise about the Lalaurie Mansion, a haunted house that still stands in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
“The Conjuring” writers Chad and Carey Hayes first announced back in 2019 that they were writing and developing a series of films all inspired by the house and the history of its crazed owner, Madame Delphine Lalaurie. Bousman will direct the first film in the planned franchise. No other casting or planned start dates were made clear.
The Lalaurie Mansion is considered one of the most haunted houses in the world and has been closed to the public since 1932, but it remains a popular tourist attraction. Exclusive: The Conjuring creators Chad and Carey Hayes and producers Faster Horse Pictures (The Tax Collector) have set Saw franchise director Darren Lynn Bousman to helm their new horror franchise The Lalaurie Mansion.
Bousman, who has directed four of the Saw movies including this year’s Spiral with Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson, will direct the leadoff film in the proposed series of movies about the infamous New Orleans property.
The Hayes Brothers have written the film’s screenplay in the house, and the production will shoot portions of the film on-site as well, despite public access not being possible since 1932.
The first movie will be set in the present day and is being lined up for Q4 2021. Casting will begin now. We hear that studio and streamer interest is already high in the project.

If you’ve ever taken a ghost tour in New Orleans, chances are you’ve made a stop at the Lalaurie Mansion, which is the site of the atrocious behaviors of socialite Delphine Lalaurie, who tortured and murdered slaves on the now-infamous property. As it turns out, the Lalaurie Mansion is set to be the centerpiece for an upcoming horror project which will be written by veteran scribes Carey and Chad Hayes, and while in Park City for the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, this writer had the opportunity to speak with one of the producers for the project, Doug McKay, who gave us some insights into what we can expect from the upcoming film.
Great to speak with you, Doug. I’m familiar with the Lalaurie Mansion, as I toured it years ago on a ghost tour, and it was extremely creepy. What can you tell us about what’s already...

The creators of The Conjuring franchise, Chad and Carey Hayes, have launched a new production company called Faster Horse Pictures. The plan is to develop a series of haunted mansion horror films through this production company.
The new franchise will be built around the real-life Lalaurie Mansion, which is located in New Orleans. This is said to be one of the most notorious haunted houses in the world. Thousands of tourists flock to the mansion every year even though there hasn’t been any public access to it since 1932.
The house was made infamous by its resident Madame Lalaurie, “a New Orleans socialite and serial killer who tortured and murdered numerous slaves there in the early 1800s. After her crimes were exposed following a house fire in 1834, she fled the city and was never arrested.”

After stepping into the haunted homes of the Perron and Hodgson families, respectively, in the first two Conjuring movies, screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes are now opening the door to another real-life location with a haunted past in a new horror franchise based on the Lalaurie Mansion in New Orleans:
Press Release: From the creators of The Conjuring franchise, Chad and Carey Hayes, and Faster Horse Pictures’ Cindy Bond and Doug McKay in tandem with Michael Whalen, a team with experience working on The Zodiak, Shutter Island and The Black Swan, comes a new horror film franchise based on the infamous house and property known as The Lalaurie Mansion – one of the most haunted houses in the world. Despite there being no public access inside the property since 1932 (for a reason!), thousands of people travel to New Orleans each year just to get a roadside glimpse of the notorious home.

Mike Medavoy and Doug McKay, Vice-President of Production at Phoenix Pictures, have teamed up with legendary writer Ray Bradbury, Rgi Productions’ Rodion Nahapetov (who is penning the screenplay), and producer Natasha Shliapnikoff to produce the feature film adaptation of Bradbury’s classic novel “Dandelion Wine.” Bradbury, who turns 91 on Monday remarked, “This is the best birthday gift I could ask for. Today, I have been reborn! ‘Dandelion Wine’ is my most deeply personal work and brings back memories of sheer joy as well as terror. This is the story of me as a young boy and the magic of an unforgettable summer which still holds a mystical power over me.” Nahapetov stated, “I was deeply honored when Ray Bradbury chose me to write the screenplay adaptation for his novel ‘Dandelion Wine.’ When I began my studies at the Cinema Institute in Moscow, many foreign books were banned in Soviet Russia.

It's officially been announced that producer Mike Medavoy (Black Swan, Shutter Island) is set to bring the true story of the 33 Chilean miners who were trapped for 69 days to theaters. Screenwriter José Rivera (Motorcycle Diaries) has already been set to write the script. "The film will recount the events surrounding the mine's collapse and the subsequent rescue efforts, which culminated in the emotional retrieval of all 33 miners after 69 days trapped half a mile beneath the surface."
This was such a crazy story, and it awesomely amazing that they all made it out alive. I don't really get into the news these days, but this story had me hooked, and there's no doubt that if done right it will make for a great movie.

Less than a year after their captivating struggle to survive, the 33 miners who spent 69 days trapped underground in Chile are going Hollywood.
Producer Michael Medavoy, who earned an Academy Award nomination last year for putting together "Black Swan," announced on Sunday that he purchased the film rights to their story through his Half Circle production company. Oscar-nominated screen writer Jose Rivera will pen the screenplay.
In a statement announcing the film, miner Juan Andrés Illanes, the third to be rescued, celebrated the move and promised untold details of their time down in the mine.
"One year after the collapse of the mine, we consider this to be a great step towards the realization of a film based on our experience in the mine. This is the only official and authorized film about what we lived in the San José mine. Much of our story has never been told," he said.

The miraculous rescue of 33 Chilean miners in October of last year led to many people predicting when (not if) a movie would be made about the event. The ball started rolling on the project fairly soon after the event, and a press release has announced that a producer and screenwriter are now on board the film.
Producing will be Mike Medavoy and Edward McGurn of the former’s company, Half Circle. Neither is a lightweight by any means — Medavoy was behind recent successes like Zodiac, Shutter Island, and Black Swan, while McGurn is the vice-president of Phoenix Pictures. Another Oscar nominee is involved, as The Motorcycle Diaries screenwriter José Rivera is attached to handle the script.
