Actress Mo’Nique claimed she has been “blackballed” from the entertainment industry by Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey – and she said she has an audio tape of Perry stating she is “difficult to work with.”
In an interview with football legend Shannon Sharpe on his podcast Club Shay Shay, Mo’Nique reveals she recorded a conversation over the phone between herself and Perry.
After the recorded phone call, Mo’Nique stated that Perry told singer Stephanie Mills he would only meet with Mo’Nique if her husband, Sidney Hicks, was not present. Perry requested a public apology from Mo’Nique and said that he and Oprah had nothing to do with the downfall of her career.
The drama between Mo’Nique, Perry and Winfrey dates back to 2009.

Actress and comedian Mo’Nique filed a lawsuit against Paramount and CBS on Wednesday seeking unpaid royalties from her sitcom “The Parkers.”
The breach of contract lawsuit, filed in a Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges CBS and Paramount artificially depressed “The Parkers” profitability to “retain millions that would otherwise be contractually due” to Mo’Nique’s production company.
The suit states, “While the series has proven to be a major financial success for its producers and distributors, the series’ talent have not been permitted to share in the fruits of that success.”
Mo’Nique and her husband and business partner, Sidney Hicks, filed the lawsuit under their production company, Hicks Media. The lawsuit is seeking monetary damages which will be determined at a trial. They are suing both CBS and Paramount and the show’s production company Big Ticket Productions.

In her latest comedy special entitled “My Name is Mo’Nique,” which premiered on Netflix on April 4, Mo’Nique tearfully recounts a confession she made to her husband Sidney Hicks. In the special, she tells the story of admitting to Hicks for the first time that she wanted “to be with another woman sexually.”
The Academy Award winner, who’s been married to Hicks since 2006, reveals she had kept her desires a secret for most of her life out of fear, due to her family history. As she nears the end of her set in “My Name is Mo’Nique,” she spends a portion of the special remembering the relationship between her grandmother MiMi and a queer family member whom she affectionally refers to as “Uncle Tina,” reflecting on the distant relationship the two had due to Tina’s sexuality.

Mo'Nique is finally ready to put the past behind her, and by that she means her 13-year feud with Lee Daniels. In the midst of her return to TV, movies, and standup comedy, the comedian sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, published on March 8, to recap the years of her career after she won her 2010 Oscar for Daniels's "Precious" - a movie that also led to their public fallout.
It all started in 2009 in the run-up to Mo'Nique's big night at the Oscars, when, according to the comedian, she refused to do full-court press for "Precious" because she wouldn't be compensated to promote it during award season, per THR. At the time, Mo'Nique was hosting a talk show on BET and also wanted time to spend with her husband (and manager), Sidney Hicks, and her sons Shalon, 32, and twins Jonathan and David, 17. Mo’Nique is opening up about her high-profile feuds. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 55-year-old comedian discusses both the origins and current standings of her public feuds with Lee Daniels, Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry.
Everything started in 2004 when she met Daniels. The following year, she appeared in his directorial debut, “Shadowboxer”. From there, Mo’Nique says, she and Daniels “never stopped communicating,” all the way up to her starring role in the 2009 film “Precious”.
The film quickly earned critical praise and was part of the awards season discussion, something that Daniels, along with producers Winfrey and Perry, wanted to capitalize on. Mo’Nique declined to go on a press tour without being compensated for her time, and thus the rift began.

The movie is written by J. Oyer Tomas, former HBO executive producer, and set during the Congressional impeachment hearings to remove President Richard Nixon from office. Nixon resigned in 1974.
Mo’Nique will portray a mother, struggling with anger management issues, who is forced to steal her suddenly deceased husband’s trucking haul to provide for her daughter. On their cross-country adventure she discovers the truth behind her husband’s death and vents her rage upon his racist killers.

The Boys in the Choir: Polk’s Antiquated Rendition of the Rural Gay Narrative
The blatant underrepresentation of black gay characters in film, whatever letter they’re placed into on the inclusive Lgbt spectrum, is simply not reason enough to appreciate the elemental contrivances of Patrik-Ian Polk’s Blackbird, an independent film rife with cliché in its euphemistic depiction of the rural queer experience that does little to elevate the film’s archaic nature.
The title has been inadvertently thrown into a higher caliber pop culture zeitgeist thanks to its distinction as Mo’Nique’s first post-Oscar role since her 2009 win for Best Supporting Actress in Precious. The significant media coverage concerning potential fallout between herself and director Lee Daniels should enhance the film’s shelf-life beyond the trappings of a niche market. Imes says the molestations took place mainly when he believed his sister, now aged 42, was asleep. He also claims his attacks on Mo'Nique, which happened when he was 13, stemmed from his drink and drug problems, which he started taking as a child to mask his own turmoil over being abused himself.
He said, "I started using cocaine, heroin, alcohol at the age of 11. I used these drugs to hide my own pain, to hide my own fears... The drugs allowed me and afforded me the opportunity to hurt my sister.

Mo'nique was given a scare on the first night of her comedy tour - she was trapped in an elevator for 20 minutes after the show.
The Oscar-winner kicked off her Spread the Love stand-up shows in New Orleans, Louisiana last Friday, but the opening night turned sour after the jokes ended and the star was ushered off to meet fans backstage.
Mo'Nique entered an elevator with several associates and a camera crew from U.S. TV show Entertainment Tonight when the carriage came to a sudden halt and they were left stranded.
The comedienne soon became irritated and phoned her husband, Sidney Hicks, to complain, yelling into her cell phone, 'We're stuck in an elevator! Do something!"
Mo'Nique was later handed the security guard's walkie-talkie and she was filmed shouting irately, "I am stuck in this damn elevator! I don't know what's going on, but I will be up there as soon as they let me out of this damn elevator. I'm trying not to cuss! I am stuck on the elevator!"
After 20 minutes, the doors were released and Mo'Nique was able to meet and greet the waiting fans, telling them, 'Thank you all for being so patient."...

No male face can truly be considered stylish this season without a smattering of hair around the jawline. But which celebrity beard is right for you?
The Hollywood beard
Right this second you are a nobody in La if you don't have a beard. At the post-Oscars bash the Governor's Ball, the beard's dominance was plain for all to see. There was Jeff Bridges flaunting his winning silver goatee, while the Hurt Locker table was home to all manner of beards. Sandra Bullock's husband, Jesse James, has one, as does Mo'Nique's husband, Sidney Hicks. James Cameron must be kicking himself – if he'd only grown some stubble at least, the academy might have been kinder to him. This particular Hollywood beard is meant to convey status and career security. It isn't very cool – it's a bit wrong even but it doesn't matter because it says that one's work counts more than a clean shave.

Oscar winners faced the press last night after their big moments on the Kodak Theater stage!
The Oscar wins Mar.7 truly reflected the epitome of great acting. Mo’Nique took home an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film Precious based on the novel Push by Sapphire. The award winning actress looked radiant in a royal blue gown and she admits there’s a special reason why she wore it. “It’s the color that Hattie McDaniel wore in 1940 when she accepted her Oscar,” says Mo’Nique. “The reason why I have this gardenia in my hair, it is the flower that Hattie McDaniel wore when she accepted her Oscar … So, for you, Ms. Hattie McDaniel, I feel you all over me, and it’s about time that the world feels you all over them.” Hattie won an Academy Award for best supporting actress...

Mo'Nique completed her successful award season run with yet another win at tonight's Oscars. She was brimming with happiness as she stepped back into the press room, where she kept the crowd cracking up the whole time. Along with talking about her dress and role, and relaying the sweet story of her husband saying "you first" to chase her dreams, she joked about being a comedian at heart and not playing the Hollywood game. Here's some highlights: On winning: "Everything I wanted, everything I waited for, is here. I am a stand-up comedian who won an Oscar! [laughs] Oh, baby, I tickle me! You know, this role was so not about my acting career. This role has shaped my life and allowed me not to judge and to love unconditionally. If that goes into my career, great, but if it doesn't and I'm just the dynamic person that I strive to be every day,...

Mo'Nique gave another of her heartfelt acceptance speeches at the 2010 Academy Awards. She first thanked the academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics and then she said, "I want to thank Miss Hattie McDaniel for enduring all that she had to so that I would not have to."
McDaniel was the first African-American nominated for an Oscar and the first African-American winner, back in 1939 for "Gone With the Wind."
Mo'Nique went on to thank Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, an attorney, her Bet family, her "Precious" family and her husband Sidney Hicks.
Her Academy Award win for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for "Precious" caps off an awards sweep in that category for Mo'Nique.
She previously said she was not going to write an Oscar speech because the Universe would think she's got a lotta nerve but everyone regarded her as a shoo-in.

Its title proved prescient. Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire was a double winner during the middle point of the 2010 Academy Awards on Sunday night. Even though she seemingly had a lock on the Supporting Actress Oscar, Mo'Nique triggered a welcome jolt that reverberated through Hollywood's Kodak Theatre when her name was announced. She first thanked the Academy "for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics." She then paid tribute to Gone with the Wind Supporting Actress Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American ever to win an Oscar (in 1939), and "for enduring all she had to,...

Sidney Hicks, Best Supporting Actress nominee Mo’Nique on the Oscar red carpet "I’m the belle of the ball? Yay me!" That’s Gabourey Sidibe, after ABC’s red carpet interviewer went on about her "Cinderella story." Of the quotes I’ve heard thus far, Sidibe’s joyful remark and her sheer presence have been the highlight of the Oscar Red Carpet. All but unbeatable Best Supporting Actor nominee Christoph Waltz was asked about his crucial importance to Inglourious Basterds — without an appropriate Nazi, Quentin Tarantino said he wouldn’t have made the film. How does that make you feel, inquired the red carpet interviewer. Waltz replied that he "couldn’t comment" on that, only to go on commenting for a couple of minutes. I hope he [...]...

Friday marked the 25th anniversary of the Independent Spirit Awards, which they celebrated by airing it live for the first time. The precursor to today's Oscars is always a looser affair, but the red carpet had it's own impressive ensembles - vote on them with all of Fab and Bella's love it or hate it polls. Lenny Kravitz had a Hollywood up-and-comer, his daughter Zoe, on his arm to support his movie Precious. Carey Mulligan was solo, which is apparently her plan for today as well which dashes our hopes that she'd bring her cute boyfriend Shia Labeouf. Vera Farmiga was representing the Up In The Air cast in her red dress. The winners were able to have a bit of fun both mingling with friends during the big dinner and on stage where anything goes. Mo'Nique and Gabourey Sidibe both took home statues for their work in Precious, which...

Oscar nominee Mo'Nique made headlines this week, not for her work in "Precious," which has earned her several awards already this year -- but for her open marriage.
And now, the stars are weighing on Mo'Nique's openness about allowing her husband, Sidney Hicks, to stray, if he wants. She can too, but has said she doesn't.
"I think each person should be able to live their life according to what they believe in," Common told Access Hollywood at the third annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon on Thursday. "If that's what she chooses for her relationship then ...

Mo'Nique would not be upset if her husband cheated on her. The 'Precious' actress - who has been married to Sidney Hicks for the past 25 years - claims they have an open relationship which wouldn't be destroyed if he were to have an affair. Speaking on the Oscar night edition of 'The Barbara Walters Special', she said: "Could Sid have sex outside of his marriage with me? Yes. That's not a deal-breaker. That's not something that would make us say, 'pack your things and let's end the marriage.' " The 42-year-old star - who is favourite to win Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars on Sunday night (07.03.10) - said it was because she had been with Sidney so...

Oscar favourite Mo'nique has given her manager/husband a free pass to be unfaithful, insisting an affair wouldn't mean the end of their marriage.
The Precious star has revealed she and husband Sidney Hicks have an open marriage - and she has known her soulmate for too long to file for divorce over any infidelity.
In a candid new pre-Oscars chat with newswoman Barbara Walters, Mo’Nique says, "Could Sid have sex outside of his marriage with me? Yes. That’s not a deal-breaker. That’s not something that would make us say, 'Pack your things and let’s end the marriage.'
"What if it’s 20 times? So what? We’ve been best friends for over 25 years, and we truly know who we are. Oftentimes, people get into marriages and they don’t know who they’re laying next to. I’m very comfortable and secure with my husband."...

You can say this for Mo'nique's reluctance to do press this awards season: It's made her upcoming Oscar night interview with Barbara Walters kind of interesting. Not only does she dish on her unshaven gams, but she also discusses her open marriage with husband Sidney Hicks: "Let me say this: I have not had sex outside my marriage with Sidney. Could Sid have sex outside of his marriage with me? Yes. That's not a deal-breaker. That's not something that would make us say, 'Pack your things and let's end the marriage.'" Former adultress Barbara Walters was scandalized, asking how often Mo' would allow that. "What if it's 20 times?" the actress responded. "So what? We've been best friends for over 25 years, and we truly know who we are." [Nydn]...

From Sandra Bullock's tearful dedication to husband Jesse James to George Clooney's playful interaction with girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis on the red carpet to Jeff Bridges's insistence that camera crews pan to the audience to get a full shot of his wife...

Because of her so-called lack of participation at some awards ceremonies and festivals for the film Precious which she co-stars in, tonight Mo’Nique was able to finally put a lot of critics to rest at The Golden Globes.

Precious star Mo'nique's business manager/husband stepped up to defend his wife backstage at the Critics Choice Movie Awards in Hollywood on Friday, after she was quizzed about failing to show up and support the film at a series of festivals and awards shows.
The comedienne, who picked up a Best Supporting Actress prize at the event for her portrayal of mother-from-hell Mary Jones, was backstage chatting to the media when one journalist asked her to explain why she snubbed a series of events, including the Toronto Film Festival, New York Film Festival and New York Film Critics Awards.
Mo'Nique called her husband Sidney Hicks to the press room stage to answer the question on her behalf.
He calmly told the media, "She's the first woman of African-American descent to ever have a late-night TV show, she's also a comedienne... In conjunction with that, she's a mother, she's also a wife.
"She hasn't been at all of them, but she has been at some... She'd rather portray a bad mother in the movies than actually be one in real life."
According to GoldDerby.com blogger Tom O'Neil, Precious director Lee Daniels promised to accept her New York Film Critics Circle Awards gong when she was a no-show, but then backed out.
The incident prompted movie experts to suggest Daniels and Mo'Nique had fallen out over her decision not to attend, but the comedienne/actress paid tribute to her director during Friday night's awards show.
In her acceptance speech, she called Daniels "one of the most brilliant directors and visionaries of our time," adding, "Lee Daniels, you are absolutely brilliant."...

Mo'nique has shot down reports of a rift with Precious executive producer Oprah Winfrey after missing a series of promotional events for the new movie.
The heavyweight star was alleged to have fallen out with Winfrey, her co-producer Tyler Perry and director Lee Daniels after reportedly demanding thousands of dollars to walk the red carpet at the recent Toronto Film Festival in Canada and the New York Film Festival last month.
Daniels has since come to Mo'Nique's defence, insisting she showed no signs of "diva" behaviour, but new reports have since blamed the actress' manager husband, Sidney Hicks, for making the cash demands, allegedly infuriating Winfrey.
A source tells Us Weekly magazine, "He's impossible to work with and was the one demanding the payments. She deserves an Academy Award and he's screwing it up for her."
But Mo'Nique, who plays an abusive mother in the gritty drama, is keen to clear up allegations she's at war with Winfrey.
