It’s been an interesting run-up to the Toronto International Film Festival, and in terms of the survival of the species, the good ol’ U.S.A. has been something of a race to the bottom. What would do us in first: violent neo-Nazis whose activities are almost explicitly condoned by the Klansman In Chief? Or a 1,000-year weather event on the Gulf Coast whose magnitude surely owes something to global climate change, and whose aftermath of collapsing dams and exploding chemical factories has everything to do with systematic neglect?Given the state of things down here, who wouldn’t want to repair to Canada for some challenging cinema? As always, the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) is the place to be in September, and Wavelengths once again features the best of the fest. This is because the films selected for Wavelengths are the opposite of escapism. Whether they tackle...

The weight of the world is on Clarke Griffin's shoulders yet again.
When The 100 Season 4 Episode 1 picked up, mere moments had passed since the conclusion of The 100 Season 3 Finale. The season-long foe had been successfully defeated – but not before Commander Ontari was killed and Alie had imparted some disturbing information about the fate of mankind.
TV Fanatics Yana Grebenyuk and Allison Nichols are joined by Lauren Busser and Samantha Coley from Tell-Tale TV, to discuss everything that went down in the explosive finale.
Check out their thoughts, and chime in with your own by leaving us a comment below. Be sure to tune in for The 100 Season 4 Episode 2 on Wednesday, February 8th at 9/8c on The CW.

This was a great reason to skip Friday night dinner: The Gilmore Girls Fan Fest kicked off Friday in Washington Depot, Ct (the real-life inspiration for Stars Hollow) with a gathering of devoted fans, all buzzing with anticipation for next month’s Netflix revival. And Friday night’s “Behind the Scenes” panel discussion — moderated by our very own Michael Ausiello — gave us some juicy tidbits about the original seven-season run of the series.
Joining Ausiello on stage were consulting producer Stan Zimmerman, producer Sheila Lawrence, casting directors Mara Casey and Jamie Rudofsky, key costumer Valerie Campbell and dialogue coach George Bell.

Sue Sylvester would most definitely approve! Lauren Potter - best known to Glee fans as one of Sue's cheerleaders, Becky Jackson - accepted a promise ring from childhood friend-turned-boyfriend Timothy Spear in Laguna Beach on Sunday. Spear, 26, popped the question after planning a romantic picnic in Laguna overlooking the ocean, Potter's mom Robin Sinkhorn tells People. "He picked out the ring, made payments on it, and then planned the picnic and the moment to get down on one knee to ask her to promise to be his one-and-only and marry him when they are ready," Sinkhorn says. "Then they watched the sunset together.

Shatner, Nimoy, Dunaway, Johnny Cash and more. We take a look at some of TV detective show Columbo’s killer cameos...
Schlubby working class hero, Crime And Punishment’s Porfiry Petrovich for primetime, fatherly fighter of crime... I was introduced to the rumple-coated and rumple-faced one back in 1987, following an off-hand attempt from my mother to get five-year-old me to sit down and shut up for a few minutes. Desperately looking for something to grab my attention, and zeroing in on what ITV happened to be repeating that Sunday, her “Oh, look! Columbo! You like him, don’t you?” – “Huh?” – “He’s the one with the cigar and coat, you know him!” got me to sit down, be quiet, and puzzle over whether or not I did like him. She turned out to be right – I liked him a lot.

Yet another Hollywood star has been seduced by the creative freedoms of the small screen. Precious actress Paula Patton, who broke big with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, just signed on to star in ABC’s drug cartel drama pilot Runner, multiple sources confirm.
Adapted from the Turkish TV series Son, Runner will center on Lauren Marks (Patton), a seemingly ordinary woman who, after having her happy family shattered, follows a trail of lies into the shadowy world of cartels and gun-running between the U.S. and Mexico.
Lauren is described as “an architect, a caring wife and mother living peacefully with her husband, Adam, and their son, Jackson. ” When a plane Adam was on crashes, killing everyone on board, Lauren is distraught – until she learns that her husband never boarded the plane. Determined to discover the truth and find out what her husband has been hiding from her, Lauren winds...

When last we left "American Idol," they'd cut a bunch of people from Hollywood Week, albeit nobody we'd been made to care about in the slightest. From Kirk Alyn and George Reeves to Henry Cavill and Christopher Reeve, meet the men who have brought Superman to the screen...
Although Batman has had the most big screen versions of his character (more on that here), Superman surely holds the record for most re-castings once you add his vast television history into the equation. From Smallville to television musicals via Man Of Steel and old-school cinematic serials, The Big Blue Boy Scout sure has got around over the years.
Of course, the iconic Christopher Reeve holds the record for most filmic appearances, and remains to many film fans The Superman. Henry Cavill is surely after both of those accolades, even if the former seems the more likely goal.
While we wait for Cavill’s Supes to receive a post-Metropolis-levelling ass-whupping from Affleck’s Batman, then, let’s have a look at the actors...

When’s that comic book movie coming out, with the ant-sized man? This and all similar questions answered in our comic book movie calendar.
Comic book fans of the world - were you planning on spending your spare cash on anything other than cinema visits and DVD box-sets for the next six years? Well tough, because Hollywood has other ideas.
Ever since Bryan Singer’s X-Men movie jump-started the comic book movie trend in 2000 (building on the stellar work of Richard Donner and Tim Burton in the decades prior), Fox, Sony, Warner Bros., Disney and Marvel Studios have all been repeatedly cashing-in on the resurgent popularity of capes, cowls and anything ending in ‘Man’.
Now, the sheer size of the comic book movie-making world has reached a critical mass. There are now seven such films (at least) slated for every year between 2016 and 2019. There’s also a few confirmed for 2020 already,...

The Ghost Fleet #1
Written by Donny Cates
Art by Daniel Warren Johnson
Colors by Lauren Affe
Published by Dark Horse Comics
First of all, there is nothing wrong with comics and stories in general filled with big explosions, blood splatters, and fire fights, especially if they’re part of the action or military genre. The Ghost Fleet #1 squarely fits into these kind of stories and relishes in its military credentials from the first page, which has a typically gory panel of Andrew Jackson and his soldiers fighting the British with some smaller panels showing Jackson’s covert activities with French privateers. The mix of over the top action and espionage is a nice hook for the comic, but Ghost Fleet decides to predominantly focus on the action part. This is a black ops story that happens to feature truckers with military training, but writer Donny Cates doesn’t flesh out...

• Fango got the scoop on street dates for a trio of horror titles coming to DVD in late summer/fall. Dark Sky Films revealed when you’ll be able to pick up Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel’s fest-acclaimed Deadgirl and Gregory Mandry’s Brit shocker Gnaw, while Genius Products has announced its slot for Philippe Martinez’s The Chaos Experiment.
Deadgirl, which begins with a couple of teenaged guys discovering a naked, chained, apparently undead young woman in an abandoned mental facility—and one deciding to have his way with her—arrives September 15, while Gnaw, about vacationers who stumble upon a house full of cannibals (see previous item here), arrives August 11. Chaos Experiment, about a psychotic professor (Val Kilmer) attempting to prove his global-warming theories by imprisoning six people in a steam room (see first set report here), is coming August 4. Stay tuned for full disc details and cover art on all of these,...
