Guest Column by Alice Maltin When actor John Nettles decided to hang up his badge as Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby and walk into the sunset (or wherever they told us he was going), that ended one of TVs most enjoyable British murder mystery series. Then they had the audacity to return with Neil Dudgeon as Dci John Barnaby—Tom’s cousin! I wished they hadn’t done that…but they did, and you know what? He’s really good. They pulled it off. Tom Barnaby was a smart, likeable and easygoing Dci who never lost a case, or his temper. He had a devoted wife and daughter and a trusty sergeant, Ben Jones (Jason Hughes). His cousin, Dci...

The latest DC hero to hit the small screen is Green Lantern, as a part of the DC Nation Block on Saturday mornings on Cartoon Network. The Green Lantern Animated Series looks to make amends and bring Hal Jordan into a palpable medium outside of comics. They’ve chosen a new style to do it in, using computer-generated imagery and tapped some of the greatest comics in the character’s lore as the launching point. After five episodes, it appears that another DC hero has made a successful leap into animation. BuzzFocus had the pleasure speaking exclusively with producers Giancarlo Volpe and Jim Krieg to talk about the first season and how Jordan’s brightest day on TV is yet to come.
Was there concern to moving to Saturday morning after Young Justice along with the Man of Action cartoons like Ben 10 made Friday night a destination point for cartoon fans?...

Among the star guests at WonderCon 2012 were the cast and crew of hit TV shows Fringe and Alcatraz, plus the producers behind DC Nation - Cartoon Network's new Saturday morning segment dedicated to the superheroes from DC Comics.
Fringe is now in its fourth season and although its ratings dipped after it was moved to Friday nights in the USA - a slot notorious for killing off so many shows - there is a genuine optimism from those involved that it will get renewed for a fifth season. I would like to my add my own hope to that.
Speaking to reporters (via Spinoff Online) at WonderCon, John Noble, who plays Walter Bishop, said: "The overriding feeling is we're on the cusp of being one of the great science fiction shows of all time. We all want to finish it. We don't want to leave people going 'What? I've watched this for four years!

Hoping to take flight far more than the recent film adaptation is Green Lantern: The Animated Series.
It's just started airing as part of DC Nation - the new one-hour programming block from Cartoon Network, Warner Bros Animation and DC Entertainment.
You might well wonder why they would create a TV series about a character whose live-action, big-screen incarnation did not exactly glow at the box office. Maybe it's an attempt to compensate for that failing, to show they can do it right, and perhaps to generate a stronger audience awareness that sets the stage for a movie sequel or reboot in the near future.
Whatever the reason, Green Lantern: The Animated Series seems to be making fans happy so far and a sneak peek at some of the upcoming episodes has been shown at this weekend's WonderCon 2012 in Anaheim, California. The footage is embedded below.

You'd think that by the time a series got around to releasing set 18, it'd be a bit stale, wouldn't it? Not so with the quintessentially British Midsomer Murders. Set 18 of the popular crime drama will hit DVD on September 6 with three new mysteries never before released nor aired in the U.S.
John Nettles prowls his way through all three adventures as Dci Tom Barnaby, who manages to solve all three cases without breaking his signature, inquisitive cool. He's accompanied by Jason Hughes as Detective Sergeant Ben Jones, Barnaby's less experienced but still efficient partner. Neither character is given much room for development in any of the three mysteries. Only Barnaby really has a distinct personality; Jones isn't given much at all.
The mysteries themselves are surprisingly great. The first, titled "Small Mercies," is the best of the set, featuring a series of murders centering around a model village in Little Worthington.

Producer Of British TV Show “Midsomer Murders” Suspended For Saying Minorities Wouldn’t Work In Cast
“We just don’t have ethnic minorities involved. Because it wouldn’t be the English village with them. It wouldn’t work. Fans love the perceived English genreel eccentricity. It’s not British. It’s very English. We’re the last bastion of Englishness and I want to keep it that way.”
That’s what British producer Brian True-May said in an interview with Radio Times about his popular TV show Midsomer Murders–airing on the ITV1 Network in Britain–that ultimately resulted in his suspension. He also stated that multiculturalism “would just look out of place” in the show.
The show, a suspenseful whodunnit series, is based on books by Caroline Graham. It’s one of many shows on the network that, as The Hollywood Reporter states, “…hark to a bygone era of all-white Englishness despite their contemporary setting.”
True-May understood his comments were not politically correct and believes...

Neve Campbell has promised "Scream 4" will be "scary and funny". The film stars original cast members from the first three films Neve, Courteney Cox, David Arquette as well as new actresses Emma Roberts and Hayden Panettiere, and Neve has praised director Wes Craven for his work on the new movie.
Talking to Absolute Radio's Ben Jones, she said, "It's going to be very scary, very funny, Wes Craven is brilliant."
Despite being a veteran of the horror franchise, Neve has admitted she still gets scared and was terrified by one of the crew on set. She explained, "We did have a prop guy on set who was actually trying to scare us with knives and things which was very scary."
Director Wes has previously said he believes the film will be a "fun" one which fans of the horror franchise will be able to enjoy despite it focusing on a younger crew.

On September 28, Acorn Media brings Us fans the sixteenth(?!) set of the highly popular Midsomer Murders. You may have seen it on A&E or Biography Channel, but these four episodes have never been broadcast in America. Let’s take a look at the newest volume of this series which has been going strong since March 1997.
The Show
Color me impressed. Midsomer Murders has turned out more than seventy-five episodes since its debut, and is still in production – a feat considering most British series can produce as few as four episodes per series (compared to the Us standard of somewhere between thirteen and twenty-two). The cast has remarkably remained almost the same since its 1997 debut, except for the addition of Jason Hughes (best known as Warren in the groundbreaking series This Life) in 2005. What American show would be so lucky as to have the same cast for thirteen years?
As the title implies,...

The cast has remarkably remained almost the same since its 1997 debut, except for the addition of Jason Hughes (best known as Warren in the groundbreaking series This Life) in 2005. What American show would be so lucky as to have the same cast for thirteen years?
As the title implies,...

First off, a big thanks to everyone who took the time to share their personal stories for our Father's Day contest. The submissions were superb, so it has been extremely hard to pick a winner.
We found that the best stories shared some common features: The song was linked to a specific moment (rather than a general sentiment); the song itself spoke to a shared connection, rather than a one-sided memory; and the music itself allowed something to happen, which otherwise might not have. Here are some of the entries that rose to the top, after reading them all. Each one, I think, throws light on the different ways music can craft our memory, and make our world bigger.
For example, here's Vladimir P writing about how a Western song...

Mr. T has seen The A-Team (opening on Friday) and he's slamming it, claiming there's too much sex and violence.
People die in the film and there's plenty of sex but when we did it, no one got hurt and it was all played for fun and family entertainment. These seem to be elements nobody is interested in anymore. It was too graphic for me. I've no doubt it will do big business at the box office but it's nothing like the show we turned out every week.
The 58 year-old actor is definitely not the target demographic, but it's our understanding audiences really like sex and violence. We sure do!
The controversy reminds us of another '80s-tv-show-turned-into-a-movie dust-up in 2005, when the guy who played Cooter in the original Dukes of Hazzard (Ben Jones) called for fans to boycott the movie because it was too sexy and needed to be "cleaned up.

Here is a treat for all who love the genre of English village murder mystery. In the 14th set of Midomer Murders viewers will have a collection of four cases to be investigated by the intrepid Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby (John Nettles) and his crew. Each of these four mysteries is a gem of production and story. Of particular interest to those who love this series, is that John Nettles has said that Barnaby will soon be retiring, so these may be some of his last cases. Joining him in these are Jane Wymark and Laura Howard and Joyce and Cully Barnaby, as well as Jason Hughes as Detective Sergeant Ben Jones. Guest stars include Gareth...

Robert Plant has said that he is avoiding a full Led Zeppelin reunion because the band are "incomplete". The legendary rock group reunited without late drummer John Bonham for a one-off gig at London's O2 arena in 2007, but Plant has declined all other offers to extend the reformation. Plant said he felt that the band had been "incomplete" since the death of Bonham in 1980. Speaking to Ben Jones on Absolute Radio, he said: "I think the thing about it is really, is that to visit old ground, it's a very incredibly delicate thing to do. "The disappointment that could be there once you commit to that and (more)...
