At the start of 1955, the Dodgers were based in Brooklyn, and Jaime Jarrín was a reporter in his native Ecuador, covering the National Congress.
Four years later, the Dodgers had moved to Los Angeles, and Jarrín was broadcasting their games on the radio.
Jarrín arrived in Los Angeles on a permanent resident visa that June and worked in a factory until a part-time job opened up at the city’s only Spanish radio station, Kwkw. He made fast progress, and by the time the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958, Jarrín was Kwkw’s news and sports director.
They didn’t play much baseball in Quito, but Jarrín had become a fan of the sport in California, going to see the minor league Hollywood Stars and Los Angeles Angels. Still, when Kwkw’s owner, William Beaton, announced that the L.A.-bound Dodgers had made a deal to broadcast their games in Spanish,...

Vin Scully, the legendary Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster who died Aug. 2 at the age of 94, was remembered in a tribute Friday at Dodger Stadium as a towering but humble figure whose work extended beyond the team to become part of the fabric of baseball.
“He wasn’t just a Dodger — he loved the game of baseball that we all love and care about,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said during the memorial ceremony that preceded the Blue Crew’s evening home game against the San Diego Padres.
“Vin, you will be missed,” Roberts said from the field, surrounded by team members. Some players them wore special hats bedecked with an image of an old-fashioned microphone with wings attached.
“We love you. We will think about you every day. Every game we come here, every fan who shows up to Dodger Stadium, there’s a reason you will always be remembered. You...

DirecTV, U-verse and AT&T TV customers will finally get to watch Los Angeles Dodgers games again, after six years of blackout. AT&T and Spectrum Networks have announced a carriage deal that will bring the Dodgers’ regional sports network, Spectrum SportsNet La, to those subscribers for the first time.
DirecTV/AT&T and Spectrum had failed to come to an agreement for six years, which left the Dodgers with only partial coverage in the Los Angeles market. Under the new deal, DirecTV customers will receive SportsNet La starting today on channel 690, while AT&T TV and AT&T TV Now customers will start to see the channel on April 8.
The news comes, however, as the baseball season has been delayed due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Fox Sports late Tuesday settled their legal feud over the sale of the bankrupt team’s broadcast rights after the 2013 season. The Dodgers agreed to abide by their current contract with Fox and won’t attempt to auction future rights before Fox’s exclusive negotiating period ends November 30. In exchange, Fox agreed to drop litigation against the Dodgers. The settlement removes uncertainty and will allow the Dodgers to be sold by April 30 under a deal owner Frank McCourt previously reached with Major League Baseball. Initial bids are due January 23. Potential buyers include Joe Torre, La area developer Rick Caruso, Orel Hershiser, Magic Johnson, Steve Garvey, Peter O’Malley, Fred Claire, Andy Dolich, Steve Cohen of the hedge fund Sac Capital Advisors, Stan Kasten, Guggenheim Partners CEO Mark Walter, Larry King, Jason Reese of Imperial Capital and the family of the late Roy E. Disney.

If you look at the picture of Orel Hershiser on the right, you might think he's a pretty unimposing guy. However, the former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher is something of an Einstein when it comes to playing the game of baseball. Therefore, it makes perfect sense and is a brilliant move that he will be joining Espn's 'Sunday Night Baseball' broadcast as an analyst.
Hershiser should have been put in the booth as soon as he was signed with Espn, but all good things in their time. Now the former Mvp, Cy Young award winner and World Series champ will be lending his expertise to the broadcast anchored by Jon Miller, the play by play guy, and former Cincinnati Reds star Joe Morgan as the lead analyst.
