For the latest Tubi Original, they’ve skipped right past Christmas to give us Dante’s Hotel, a New Year’s Eve-themed horror film that begins on New Year’s Eve 1975 in the Dontene Hotel. A young Daniel Brayer axe in hand, stands over twelve dead bodies including those of his parents.

Twelve years later it happens again and Daniel is there again. Both times however the bodies vanish before they can be taken to the morgue leaving Daniel a free, if very troubled man who has taken up permanent residence in Room 1224.

Sharknado has been back in the news this year, since 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the goofball shark movie’s initial release – so it’s fitting that Sharknado director Anthony C. Ferrante also has multiple new movies making their way out into the world this year. The latest Ferrante joint is the horror film Dante’s Hotel, which is set to be released through the Tubi streaming service this Friday, October 13th. With its premiere just three days off, a trailer for Dante’s Hotel has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Ferrante was the director behind the over-the-top shark action of Sharknado, and when that movie turned out to be a pop culture sensation he returned to direct all five of the increasingly over-the-top sequels. The franchise wrapped up in 2018… and now, five years later, Ferrante has directed his seventh shark movie. The Asylum has announced today that they’re celebrating 10 years of their cult classic made-for-tv hit Sharknado this summer with a two-night-only theatrical release.

On August 15 and August 16, Sharknado is coming to theaters for the very first time, and The Asylum is promising a fully remastered version with “100s of new special effects.”

This brand new version of the movie will feature “more kills and more thrills.”

2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the release of the first Sharknado, and so far celebrations have included a screening on legendary movie host Joe Bob Briggs’ Shudder series The Last Drive-In and an all-day Sharknado franchise marathon on Syfy. If that wasn’t enough, The Asylum has now announced that they’ll be giving the movie a two-day theatrical re-release on August 15th and 16th! A new, Barbie-inspired poster has been created to promote this theatrical re-release, and you can check it out at the bottom of this article. The Hollywood Reporter got the exclusive first look at the poster.

Sharknado has been “fully remastered with hundreds of new special effects” for this event. The trailer for the re-release, which you can watch in the embed above, promises this version of the movie will deliver new kills, new thrills, more sharks, and more ‘nado.

It’s unlikely this came with any approval from Mattel.

It was bound to happen. Netflix started making and showing original movies, then Amazon, and then Tubi followed suit with Swim. But as Tubi is not a thing here in the UK (thanks Gdpr) we’ve instead had to wait almost two years for the film to hit Blighty. However, don’t get too excited. Given their budget and “free with commercials” format of its source, this isn’t The Irishman or The Tomorrow War. This shark in the house film was made by The Asylum and their frequent director Jared Cohn from a script by Anthony C. Ferrante… so don’t expect Jaws either!

There’s something inherently unsettling about teeth, and the addition of someone prodding at them with sharp instruments is especially invasive. On the other side of that coin, the negative association with dentistry can impact the professionals. Cult filmmaker Brian Yuzna tapped into these fundamental fears with his 1996 direct-to-video film, The Dentist, and its 1998 sequel, The Dentist 2.

In fact, Yuzna knew he could sell the movie based on the title alone, so he solicited writers to pitch him on the concept. It was his old pals Stuart Gordon and Dennis Paoli — for whom Yuzna had produced Re-Animator and From Beyond — that cracked the script. Charles Finch (who went on to executive produce David Cronenberg’s Spider) was later brought in to punch it up.

A child’s not very mysterious disappearance and the violent death of her father at the hands of something monstrous form the core of Nix, a structurally ambitious but performatively weak offering from prolific Sharknado director Anthony C Ferrante. Flitting back and forth in time, it deals with the loss of young Tessa (Angelina Karo) and the subsequent collapse of her family, which includes a mother who can’t let go (latterly played by Dee Wallace of E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial fame); brother Lucas, who becomes a drug addict (Skyler Caleb); boring normal brother Jack, who defaults to being the hero (James Zimbardi); and the addict’s young daughter Zoey (Niesha Renee Guilbot). Whilst they chip away at one another’s remaining ability to cope, Jack tries to protect Zoey and untangle the secrets of the past.

It all seems to hinge on a strange, Creature From The Black Lagoon-style beastie which inhabits.

“Nix” can mean two things in German. Aside from being the word for “nothing,” it’s also the name of a creature from local folklore. This play on the word is important to remember when diving into Anthony C. Ferrante‘s newest horror movie Nix. The Sharknado director once again brings terror to the surface as an aquatic threat exits the water and leaves death in its wake. Yet considering the title’s double meaning, the monster in question may or may not even be real.

Nix opens sometime in the past when people captured their most cherished moments with handheld cameras rather than phones. The Coyle family’s picnic by a pond turns grim as daughter Tessa (Angelina Karo) goes missing, and all signs point to her drowning in the water nearby. The present day then abruptly comes into view, and the remaining Coyle family members are still reeling from their losses.

It’s a relatively quiet week for home entertainment releases, but Tuesday is playing host to one of my favorite films of the year, Ready or Not, which makes December 3rd feel like an early Christmas to this writer. Scream Factory is showing some love to John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China with multiple editions (including the standard Collector’s Edition as well as the absolutely gorgeous limited edition Steelbook), and Konga, one of my favorite cult films (thank you Terror in the Aisles!) is headed to Blu on Tuesday, courtesy of Kino Lorber.

Director Osgood Perkins brings full flavor to a familiar fairy tale with Gretel & Hansel.

Directed by Osgood Perkins, the upcoming adaptation of the classic cautionary story from the Brothers Grimm looks like it will leave a trail of breadcrumbs to the dark subconscious. It’s campy. It’s gory and it’s all about zombies. Ian Ziering is back and he’s battling zombies. Zombie Tidal Wave premieres tonight on SyFy at 9 pm. We don’t really need to go in-depth here, but it looks like from the trailer that zombies are coming ashore and Ziering and company have to battle the undead or join them. After playing Steve Sanders in all ten seasons of Beverly Hills 90210, Ziering has created a cult-like following with the Sharknado series. So far there have been six Sharknado movies all airing on the SyFy network with big numbers churning out to watch the mayhem. Zombie Tidal Wave, a new Syfy original movie starring and produced by Ian Ziering (Sharknado), is set to premiere as part of Syfy’s shark-themed Off The Deep End weekend, Saturday, August 17 at 9 Pm.

The movie is the first project under the production pact between Ian Ziering’s I.Man Productions and Darby Parker’s Stronghold Entertainment. Ferrante, who helmed the “Sharknado” films and stars Ziering as Hunter Shaw a “rogue, veteran sailor” who “contends with the ocean-borne outbreak which threatens his seaside island community.”

The film is first under the production deal between Ziering’s I.Man Productions and Darby Parker’s Stronghold Entertainment.

Shot on location in Krabi, Thailand in collaboration with Benetone Films, the film was financed by Piguant Pictures and The Wonderfilm Media Corporation. Wonderfilm’s Kirk Shaw and Imprint Entertainment’s Michael Becker also serve as producers on the film.

The ridiculous Sharknado franchise is finally coming to an end with The Last Sharknado: It's About Time. With the film being released on Syfy next month, they have decided to release a series of posters that highlight the characters of the franchise which includes Fin (Ian Ziering), April (Tara Reid), Nova (Cassie Scerbo), and Skye (Vivica A. Fox).

When talking about the movie at Comic-Con, producer David Latt made this hilarious statement:

"[The Last Sharknado: It's About Time] is just a fun ride. And you're not going to know what hits you, because you're not going to understand any of it."

The Syfy Channel has released the first teaser trailer for Sharknado 6 and they announced that the title of the film will be The Last Sharknado: It's About Time. They can say that this is the last Sharknado film all they want, but I can't help but think that all this marketing for it being the final film in the franchise, is all just a way to set it up for Sharknado 7! Remember that time when the Saw franchise was supposed to end? The title also makes a point of letting fans know that the story is "about time", with the whole time-travel element. Syfy has finalized its summer plans. Three days after announcing a June 15 premiere for the final season of 12 Monkeys, the NBCUniversal cable net has slated dates for the new seasons of its genre dramas Wynonna Earp and Killjoys along with the last Sharknado movie.

Season 3 of Wynonna Earp, starring Melanie Scrofano, will launch at 9 Pm Friday, July 20, followed at 10 by the launch of space opera Killjoys’ fourth season. The postapocalptic/time-traveling Sharknado 6 will attack at 8 Pm Sunday, August 19. The cheeky and toothy franchise-ender will cap the net’s Sharknado Week (August 12-19), which also will include such swimmer bait as Deep Blue Sea 2, Nightmare Shark and 6-Headed Shark Attack.
