The Only Redeeming things was Emily Blunt
20 September 2016
This movie was pathetic - such a HUGE disappointment. I'm not sure what the producers and directors were thinking???? I don't think they were thinking. Emily Blunt is a GREAT actress but wow, such a HUGE disappointment. NEVER AGAIN! Jack Black wasn't even funny. Why was he even considered? Why didn't they stick to the novel? I don't know what else to say but UGH! The story did not even being to resemble the awesome book. I'm sure the author is rolling over in his grave. So, this was pathetic, disgusting, stupid, disappointing... Am I forgetting anything? Oh yes, STUPID! Oh and don't even think about seeing this pathetic piece of - I can't even call it work, because its not a good piece of work. It's a sorry piece of trash. I honestly could not finish watching this and forbade my grand kids from watching it. Instead we went to the library and got the old version, that goes more by the book and is charming and interesting. I suggest you do the same. Please don't waste your time on this trash. Have a nice day.

Borders on the Ridiculous - a work of fiction
30 March 2014
THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS - I don't mind movies taking a little free creative license with a story (Bible, Novels, Biographies) as long as they leave the basic story intact.

The acting was great, the cinematography beautiful but this was simply a work of fiction, not the Bible story.

There were fallen angels called Watchers that looked like beat up transformers that built the ark and were redeemed by helping Noah and in a fight against Tubal-Cain (Cain's grandson) were sent back to Heaven... Nope, that's not what happens with the fallen watcher angels!

Noah basically goes insane due to survivors guilt and believes they all must die so leaves Ham and Japheth without wives...

Noah, in the Bible was a very righteous man who heard from God. Noah is this story has some dreams and then stops hearing from God.... So he goes to his grandfather Methuselah for help (poor Methuselah is living like a hermit)! But Noah seems to go crazy anyway...

He gets it in his head that all mankind including his family are to die. No need for Ham and Japheth to have wives... Then he plans to kill his two twin granddaughters by Shem, who marries a gal Noah rescued and raised as his child. I didn't mind this addition to the story. The wives came from somewhere.

His wife tells him if He kills his grandbaby's that she will never forgive him and that his sons will hate him. Ham already hates him because he let the woman he liked be killed by Tubal-Cain's army.

And then there is Tubal-Cain on the ark, butchering animals- SERIOUSLY?

So, all in all, I was pretty disappointed as was my hubby. The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston also took some creative license but left the basic story alone... There is NO REASON Hollywood couldn't have done the same with Noah. Time for a remake by someone who understands the real story.

In telling the Genesis story Noah somehow mixes things up a bit... Oh, and then there is the vegetarian thing - the bad guys eat meat, the good guys (Noah et al) are vegetarians. In Genesis 9 God is fine with Noah eating meat...

I think whoever wrote the movie script forgot to read the Bible story.

If you want to see a well acted but depressing work of fiction then you might like the movie, but for me... I was just plain depressed and upset. Such a shame. I mean, really, what are beat up transformer thingys doing in the story of Noah??

Great Piano - the film overall is pretty darn bad!
12 July 2013
Liberace is not an actor - he simply couldn't keep up with the likes of Joanna Dru and William Demarest and Dorothy Malone. The best part of the movie was the end with the sing-a-long... You felt like you might be at one of Liberace concerts.

There is no chemistry- NONE whatsoever - at all between Liberace and the women in the cast.

In fact there is just something kind of creepy about him. His piano playing is his only saving grace and is where he is comfortable.

I can't imagine whose idea it was to star Liberace as a leading man, but what a HUGE mistake.

I'd love to see this movie if someone else would have been given the leading role. The ending kiss was just, well, ugh! You could tell she didn't want to be kissed, at all, and who could blame her.

Not Bible Based!
20 March 2013
It would have been nice if the screen writer would have read the Bible first... This is ridiculous and much of the dialogue ludicrous... I found myself laughing. Michael berating her husband. She would have been dead for entering his chambers without an invitation. But my two favorite stupid lines: 1st Bathsheba: "Perhaps you would prefer truth to honesty, Sire". Time to get out the thesaurus! And 2nd, King David: "That soldier who laid his hands on the Ark - he was only trying to be helpful". Seriously stupid lines! Some of the movie is cute like David showing off for Bathsheba by trying to hit a tree with a rock in his sling. But overall, it's a love story of sorts, with adultery, murder, battles and David freaking out - but not Bible based. Susan Hayward is lovely and of course a great actress although I've never thought of Bathsheba as a red-head! Ha! Gregory Peck is charming as ever and makes a handsome David. It's a nice story just not based on fact. If you want to see real Bible stories watch the new Bible Series (2013).

Depressing
4 March 2013
I watched this movie after taping it on my dvr. I found myself fast forwarding through the numerous fight scenes. They became very, very, very tedious. I just didn't see the point of one massacre after another. The acting was OK overall. Christopher Walken was great. Krisofferson was OK/good as was Huppert. It was great seeing Joseph Cotten. What a legend he is. There was no need for so much nudeness. It didn't add a thing to the movie. I find it hard to believe that what occurred was really that bloody and violent. I also thought the movie could have been a tad bit lighter, that they writers could have added a little humor here and there - something to break through the constant depression a person had to endure while watching it. I kept thinking, something would break the tedium, but it never happened. Then I felt sure that after all the blood, violence, fighting that there would be a happy ending... Some kind of happy ending so a person wouldn't fall into misery trying to process this movie... Just thinking about it makes me depressed...

So torn.... !
1 February 2013
No one can deny Streep's ability as an actress. She's brilliant but wow, I was disappointed in the story. Margaret Thatcher was a brilliant statesman and this sad story - well, so much was lacking. If a story like this was made about a man I feel it would have been panned and banned. I pray someone writes a really brilliant story about the brilliant life of one of history's most amazing women, politicians and statesman. I'm just really disappointed in the story on many levels. And I have many questions such as WHY did they leave out so many brilliant things that she did in her career? So many things that affection British and World history? I'm just baffled.

Miss-casted
21 December 2012
The main gal Gabrielle was too old for the lead - The gay playing Kris (Santa) looks 10 years younger but is great in the role. The boy playing Ben looks way to old to be believing in Santa - He looks 12 but is treated like he is 7 - SO ANNOYING! He's also bad in the role.

It was a disappointment in many ways. The story line was sweet... Just to bad whoever casted this show didn't do a better job. The Elves were great, whoever played the dad was great and the gal in the supporting role was adorable. I would have preferred her in the lead.

It's best if you find something else to watch this Christmas. There are quite a few new shows out there.

Christmas Eve (1947)

Charming!
12 December 2007
This film is absolutely charming. It is fun, keeps you in a bit of suspense and the acting is wonderful. The story is really three in one. Three adopted son's must come home before midnight on Christmas Eve in order to save their mother's home. George Raft is spectacular as the gangster/misfit son and Ann Harding does a great job as the aged mother although that is one roll that may have been played better by someone who was actually elderly. Harding was only in her forties and at times her performance was a bit flawed. Randolph Scott is perfect in his cowpoke roll and Brent is perfect as the playboy. Add in Joan Blondell and Virginia Field and the cast is really complete. The chemistry and sparks between Scott and Field's is so cute. Blondell does what she does best as the blond bombshell. The cast overall is superb and you have the joy of watching three stories unfold. This movie is wonderful to watch any time of the year but especially at Christmas. The true meaning of Christmas is shared in that family is more important than self.
