Xtremo (2021)
Action is topnotch
I am a firm believer that when you write a pure action movie, the summary can and should just be one sentence. It doesn't need to be deep at all. That little known movie where the dude gets upset because they killed his dog is a prime example, as is this movie. It's magnificent in its simplicity. Why they're fighting is inconsequential. This is the type of movie that lets you know the plot isn't important. It doesn't have to be. Whatever excuse they need for this guy to beat the hell out of a group of guys, tell us and get to the fighting. This movie does just that. If you don't mind seeing a group of guys get beaten with an entire car repair shop, check this movie out.
Bel-Air (2022)
Rough around the edges, but that's not a bad thing.
The last thing anyone who watched the original would want is a retread of what we've already seen. Putting a serious take on TFPOBA is not only proper in this day and age, it shows respect to the source material. It isn't trying to replace it. If you feel your childhood is ruined by this show, you're childhood was flimsy and contrite. Bel-Air is for a new audience to enjoy, while giving the original audience something "Fresh". It takes the foundation of the original show and gives it a more realistic take, updated for today's climate and tells a compelling story with great characters dealing with real issues in their lives. This isn't a sitcom and that's good. They have a story to tell. I say let them tell it without nostalgic bias.
Utopia Falls (2020)
What am I watching?
Let me get this straight: The "competitive" aspect of this show is based on a dance that makes the dancer move like an inflatable waving arm man? That's what they went with? I sludged through the first episode, so my review is incomplete, but nothing grabbed me in this one. I have no incentive to keep going.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Please don't.
Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Logic, reason, sound decisions in front of and behind the camera abound in this latest installation. The mash the first two games together (poorly), rearrange the most popular character's personalities to the point they are unrecognizable to long-time fans. Chris is a deadbeat loser who happens to be gay. They also have him hit on Wesker. Wesker himself is a clueless soldier with no ominous aura to him whatsoever. Claire is a diehard, confident, gun expert who constantly has to save the amazingly incompetent Leon Kennedy. You have a plethora of trained soldiers who won't go for head shots once they see the zombies won't go down from center mass shots. Claire has a shotgun in her hands, sees a licker at ten feet, pulls out her handgun and starts shooting, with little to no affect. Just a ton of terrible director or writing decisions that happen, just because something else has to happen. I wasted 1:47 minutes of my life so you don't have to. Please, don't make my sacrifice be in vain.
Black Summer: The Plane (2021)
Intense, visceral entertainment
I am a sucker for oners and long takes. Abram Cox is a master of them. Anyone who complains about the lack of headshots has more than likely never fired a gun. Definitely hasn't fired under pressure of imminent death. Amazingly directed, great characters, conflicts left and right. On, and the zombies. I recommend it for any fan of the genre.
Black Summer (2019)
Gripping
The acting. The art direction. The stories. The directing. All superb. There are a lot of good one takes in this show. It makes the show more visceral and intense. I'd recommend it to any zombie genre lover.
Infinite (2021)
Value your time. Please.
Please. Allow my and other's reviews to steer you in the proper direction. Do not waste your time. This should have starred some no name meat head to better reflect the film. Wahlberg is vastly wasted here. I expected better. I can't determine which is worse: This movie, or the recently released movie "The Misfits".
Kung Fu (2021)
Is there any traces of originality?
The show is as generic as it comes. The entire show is insanely bland and predictable. Please don't waste your time.
Ruthless (2020)
Tedious.
You can tell the dialogue was written by one person, run unchecked. Two people will argue and go through every variation of the exact same question and answer. This pads the scenes to well over how long they would normally go in a properly written show. The plot is stretched out to put it at 24 episodes a season. Mind you, I only watched the first 7 episodes before I bowed out. I just can't continue. It gets one star out of the respect I have for what Tyler Perry has done overall and one for the beautiful women on the show.
Chaos Walking (2021)
Worth a once over.
If you don't give it too much thought, its an interesting ride. The biggest problem I have is the apologetic nature of the men and their thoughts, especially when Daisy reads him. Whatever you think is what you are. That's nothing to apologize for.
If you do choose to think while watching, there is no way you aren't gonna see the big twist coming a country mile away. It's not even subtle or hidden. It's like they filmed the first draft. The more I think about it, the lower the rating goes, so I'm gonna stop here.
Mister Winner (2020)
Modern Day Mr. Bean
I know that title is bold, but this is the only way I can describe this show. It's the only description that gives you an inkling on just how funny it is. Give it a look.
Professionals (2020)
A bit harsh, aren't you?
First off, it's great to see Tom Welling on tv again. He was sorely missed after Smallville and he was great on Lucifer. Seeing him in a starring role here is a welcomed sight.
Why are we pretending Brendan Fraser is a Shakespearian, high caliber actor? He's not bad by any stretch of the word, but he's always had his own style of acting that I thought most people loved. It's still here in all it's glory. Take it or leave it. I've always thought he was great. He's awkwardly charming in his roles and he gives his all, regardless what he does. He's great here and plays very well against Welling's cynical badassery.
The show is fun and it doesn't take itself too seriously. They is certainly missed in many a show these days. The story sets stakes pretty high right off the bat to get your interest and it keeps it. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. I know I will.
Double Cross (2020)
Absolutely atrocious acting.
I'm gonna assume the first episode was shot, the entire cast realized none of them could deliver a line without sounding like they were reading the script, stopped production and all took top of the line acting lessons, formed back up and finished the remaining 5 episodes with stellar acting chops. Unfortunately, I'll never know, because I couldn't get past the first episode.
Hightown (2020)
What rating is hamfisted?
Subtlety is not a strong suit of this show. What you see is exactly what you get in the characters, the writing, the direction, the acting, etc... Makes for very boring viewing. I'm pretty sure they just started filming the first rough draft of the pilot here. Nothing is fleshed out. Terrible show.
Solar Opposites (2020)
Maybe it gets better, but I'll never know.
I slogged through one and a half episodes. Rick and Morty, this is not. It tries way too hard. It seems like it's riding on R&M's good will. It hasn't hit it's stride. Maybe in the second season. For now, it's just a chore to get through.
