Ahsoka (2023– )
5/10
The worst of the several Star Wars series
21 October 2023
I'm not a fan(atic) of the Star Wars franchise, just someone who has sci-fi has the favorite movie and (almost exclusive) book genre, so each time I watch something from this franchise I tend to evaluate it for it's own merits. And all I can say is that this was baaaad!

It's even worse than Kenobi which was completely forgettable. I honestly can't remember almost anything of it except it was generally boring. And it's also worse than Boba Fett which had a non-engaging story and a main character that I didn't care about.

On the opposite side we have The Mandalorian which is highly entertaining, fun and funny and with a good story, and Andor, the most adult of all the series with a more realistic story, great atmosphere and great acting.

Ahoska is worse than any of the previous in everything. The story is predictable, most of the characters annoying, the directing pompous an the acting generally horrible.

Ahsoka is completely wooden. There's no intensity conveyed, just a blank face and theatrical overacting.

Sabine is the worst. Don't know if it's the actress, the directing or the story but it's obnoxious, A rebel just for the sake of being rebel with irrational decision making and not credible at all. So, she's a war hero but acts like a teenager. The little smirks, the shoulder shrugs, the way she moves and looks at others in a conversation is more fitted to a juvenile soap than to this character. Horrible acting. Hera is almost the same except not as bad. But for a General that young adult attitude does not fit the character. Remember, these are two people who fought on a galactic war and show zero maturity in the way they express themselves.

Baylan and Shin. The first I liked although being overly theatrical too. But Shin looks like shes permanently constipated and in need to run to a bathroom or desperate holding some strong flatulence. Each time she appeared on screen I just wanted to laugh.

The other characters I didn't even care but their flaws are the same mentioned above in varying degree.

And the directing... is so pretentious. Those constant long looks in silence between characters or over the landscape after a conversation do not bring depth to the show. At least as long as the story is so basic and predictable and the characters/acting are so bad. They aren't saying anything meaningful that requires a moment of reflection!

I doubt I'll watch the second season. Maybe I'll give a try to 1st or 2nd ones but either it improves dramatically or it's gone.

Vomit inducing episode
17 August 2023
By the start of the second horrible song at the beginning I gave up. Americans have a taste for musicals so on a lot of TV shows they feel the need to ruin completely an episode with this stupid tradition.

Maybe a nephew of a producer likes to write some songs and they forced the whole cast to this ridiculousness so the brat has a future on Brodway.

Plus, the playback and sound technique is so horribly done that the mouth of the actors don't even match the song being heard and the studio sound style does not match the usual sound type of the locale the characters are.

A total travesty and the worst episode of the series.

Comedy replaced by bad sci-fi
22 May 2023
At first this show was quite funny. Not the type of burst in loud laughs but consistently amusing with some very good parts. On season 2 it started to weaken since the writers began to forget that this was supposed to be a comedy/parody and started to take themselves a little too serious. Probably because of the usual comments saying that this was better than the actual Star Trek series. On the 3rd episode of season 3 I gave-up. This show is no longer a comedy, the acting is horrible for a drama and the stories boring. Actors continue to perform like they were on a goofy comedy but the writers forgot to insert the jokes on the script. So, it became bad as a comedy and very weak as a sci-fi show.

Dune (2021)

Very disappointing
7 November 2021
It's impossible not to compare this film with the book and the previous 1984 movie and in both cases it fails miserably. Apart from the special effects allowed by current technology, there are few redeeming qualities.

Almost all actors severely lack charisma for the parts they act. The exceptions are Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho and Dave Bautista as Beast Rabban Harkonnen. These two are great in their parts although with little screen time and much better than the 1984 version.

Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica Atreides and Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen are ok. But Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides is irrelevant.

But when we go to characters like Thufir Hawat, Dr. Wellington Yueh, Reverend Mother Mohiam. Piter de Vries, Shadout Mapes and especially Dr. Liet Kynes they are a shadow of the 1984 actors. No charisma, presence or intensity.

The worst is Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides. The acting is a snooze-fest. Paul Atreides looks like he never had a good night sleep and just drags around. Completely uninspired and uninspiring.

The 1984 version is far from perfect, but it transmitted a epic feeling, with strong characters and actors. This version even leave out some major lines of the book used in 1984 version, the vision sequences are bad and lack transmitting the background story of the universe where the story occurs apart a few comments.

It's just too much style and little content. Very disappointing.

Became ambitious and lost quality
15 November 2020
Became ambitious and lost quality. The story started to get some super-hero characteristics which I didn't like and turned from a survival story to a fight against a villain corporation. Stopped watching on the 1st episode of the 3rd season.

Artsy-Fartsy just for shock
5 July 2020
Artsy-Fartsy just for shock. Gave up after 40 minutes as the movie seems to be made just to explore retro artistic aesthetics, to try to be shocking and create awkward, strange and uncomfortable situations much in vogue these days. Summing up, I pass on the retroness, the shock value is just cheap and the awkwardness is trying to replace the lack of story.

The Hunt (II) (2020)

Far from the potential.
21 March 2020
There's a funny idea in the movie where the role of the hunters and the hunted is inverted in terms of ideology. This could have been the funniest part of the movie. Unfortunately it's not an explored and developed idea. I'm imagining the hunters almost unable to communicate due to the political correct speech and constant admonishment for he use of several words. There was a hint of this but not enough. The movie feels like a miss opportunity and an excuse to play on gratuitous violence and a couple of jokes.

Gave up on the 3rd episode
4 March 2020
Formulaic, clichés, weak acting with overacting, predictable story, shy attempts at dark humor which are unsuccessful because it seems the producers want to add that new horror movie cliché but are afraid it distracts from the horror, etc. The initial idea is ok as are the filming locations. There is some creepiness but overall not enough to make me watch the 4th and following episodes.

The worst of all so far
27 February 2020
The worst of all. Very racist. Full of clichés and simplistic political messages and without any complexity and development.

Super amateur
27 February 2020
Super amateur, slow but without being able to create tension or suspense and extremely bad actors. They try to create a supernatural story, but they never develop anything around that aspect, except for a tricky story of people who disappeared in the locale and some scratchy effects.

Weak
27 February 2020
Weak. The main actor was very poorly chosen because the expressions tend towards the comedian as is normal for the type of films he makes. Constantly uses the muscular physique without much sense other than to please female viewers?

With some interest, with a mixture of mystery, horror and comedy. The end is not very explicit and relatively open and with turnarounds, although noticeable.

predictable clichés
27 February 2020
Blah. With predictable clichés and an action that seemed to me like an Indiana Jones movie. Some attempts at humor that distracted from the weak horror that the film had.

weak
27 February 2020
The film up to exorcism is weak but acceptable with some creepy and relatively well done parts. However, when the exorcism process begins, it becomes very weak. The Jewish exorcist is very poorly chosen because he has a weak and unfit voice for action, and his actions are a lot like a comedian.

action movie with explosions, violence and clichés

Although it is a religious based story related to the end of the world, it is more of an action movie with explosions, violence and clichés.

Very weak
27 February 2020
Very weak despite having good actors, but they were very poorly used. The somewhat slow action fails to create tension, causing the film to drag.

Watchable
27 February 2020
Watchable but it is a little more of the same except for the place where it happens and the mythology used (Thailand). The performances are a bit amateurish (some very) as well as in the way of filming there is also some amateurism. The effects are acceptable.

Weak
27 February 2020
Weak. There is no great terror, the lead actress is very weak or at least she was directed like that, full of clichés and the use of music is terribly bad, coming to be comical. The volume of the music went up a lot and it was the type of 70's horror films ... Absolutely out of place.

the horror is more for the blood and macabre
26 February 2020
Lacks the grandeur of other superhero films and focuses more on the beginning of the story and the villain's actions on the family and other inhabitants of the city. It has shocking and explicit images so the horror is more for the blood and macabre scenes.

acceptable story
26 February 2020
Relatively well done in terms of CGI. The story is acceptable, but for the end, in the action scenes it fell into exaggeration. The hand-to-hand fight with the pistols is a complete exaggeration, and the acrobatics with the motorcycle at the level of the absurd.

The monster has an exaggerated and weak design
26 February 2020
Slow, a little melodramatic in introducing details of the life and relationship between mother and daughter that add nothing to the story except the act of redemption by the mother in sacrificing herself, and the daughter in showing that despite everything she likes the mother contrary to what said.

The monster has an exaggerated and weak design and anatomically it didn't make sense. Being vaguely like a male gorilla, it had a kind of bat wings, and died with almost nothing.

Ok performances.

the story is simple
26 February 2020
Based on Irish mythology and creatures that live in the forest like goblins, banshees and the like. It serves to pass the time but it is nothing special. It is a story of a family's survival, after not believing in the local warnings. The monsters are interesting and so is their spread. But the story is simple with a happy ending. Acceptable performaces.

Similar to the film The Ruins but with a kind of humanoid and bloodthirsty monster. Very weak actors, filmed poorly. You may watch it, but it's just to pass the time.

Too boring for monster movie
26 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Too boring for monster movie and low-production. The drama with the death of the son that involves the sheriff is forced and nothing adds or contributes to the film. It's like two films in one. The photography is terrible with a basic use of a blue filter over the day scenes to try to create ambience but completely failed. It was better to shoot on cloudy days.
