The Boys (2019– )

The best thing that ever happened to superheroes
10 July 2022
Is someone else sick of watching the supe save the day? Look no further! This is far from your typical superhero movie. As a matter of fact, its the complete opposite of what MCU fans are used to watching. The series sets the tone from episode one, where an innocent civilian gets killed by one of the supes, an the corporation behind the supes tries to settle it by offering money as a compensation. Soon after that the group of unlikely characters (one od them being the bf of the death civilian) get together with one mission, to take revenge and strike the supes back. The show just keeps getting crazier and crazier. Three seasons in and it somehow still manages to push up the boundaries of whats possible. Do not be discouraged by the fact that this is a superhero tv show, its probably the complete opposite of what you expect it to be. 10/10.

All style, no substance
8 July 2022
I was excited for the cinematic wild ride that was supposed to be the Multiverse of Madness, but ended bored out of my mind even though the movie was visually stunning. All style, no substance. Unless you are a Marvel fan that knows all the comics, the visuals will be interesting the first 15-20 minutes, but soon you will become tired of them since you simply will not be able to pay attention to the underlying story behind the madness. Someone that watches all of the Marvel movies told me that its closely connected to WandaVision. If you have not seen that I do not recommend going to the movie theater to watch this movie. It will only give you a headache.

Entertaining, but badly written.
8 July 2022
What was good about this season: Pretty much the same things that the fans love about the show (from previous seasons): the chemistry between the actors and actresses, the nostalgic setting, the beloved characters.

What was wrong with this season: Even though a lot of people seemed to love the double narrative in this season (cold war plot & Vecna plot) I think those two narratives did not mash very well. Until the very end it felt like I was watching two separate tv shows with the hope of them merging at some point during the season. I think what would have been better is if they did a whole season on the cold war sub plot instead. Another thing that was pointed out by many critics is the fact that the main characters seem to be invincible. That safety blanket takes a bit from the tension and simply the stakes are not high when we do not expect or we do not feel that the main characters could be killed.

Overall an entertaining season for all the reasons we loved all of the previous seasons of the show. 7/10.

Outlaw King (2018)

Good movie, felt a bit rushed though...
14 November 2018
I'll start of by saying that i don't know much about the history of Scotland and only saw this movie because it was a recommendation on Netflix. The movie did not disappoint at all. The acting was spot on. All of the actors seemed really authentic and did a really decent job. The movie follows the story of the newly appointed King of Scots (played by Chris Pine) and his fight for freedom from the English. What i did not like from this film was that it felt a bit rushed. As some of the other people in the comments pointed out this would have been an amazing mini series. A lot of things happened in a short amount of time which resulted in poor character development. Even though it lacked in some areas overall was entertaining movie with epic raw battles and no boredom in between scenes.

A Quiet Place (2018)

Slow buildup but it is worth the watch!
10 April 2018
I am going to keep it short.

The movie concept is definitely unique and original. The movie theater was actually a quiet place for the first time and that was a result of the suspense and tension that was being built as the plot was progressing. This might not be the popular opinion but i have to say that i was not impressed with the child actors. When it comes to Krasinski and Blunt they were spot on. I am definitely looking forward to Krasinski's work in the future. The only negative thing in this movie that i have to point out was the slow beginning of the movie. Some of the scenes just felt boring and i don't think that they helped with the development of the plot at all. Loved the ending, it reminded me a bit of 10 Cloverfield Lane for some reason.

Overall i give it 7/10.

Did you all watch the same movie i did?
27 March 2018
Honestly, I am baffled with all the negative reviews that I have read for the final part of this timeless classic. The story picks up couple of years later after the second part ended. Michael's kids are all grown up now and they have different visions and ambitions for their lives that not necessarily correspond with their father's plan. Michael is doing everything in his power to finally turn a new page in his family's life and leave the dark past behind, but soon figures out that things are not as simple as he wishes them to be. We are introduced to a new character, Vincent (Sonny's illegitimate son), who has his father's temper but still menages to find the patience to listen to his wise uncle. The only thing that i really missed in this movie was Robert Duvall's character. Also i have to say that i strongly disagree with the critics who argue that Francis Coppola made a wrong decision by casting his daughter as Michael Corleone's daughter. I think Sofia Coppola played her role perfectly. And when it comes to the ending.. i never cried to any movie's ending (I was really close while watching the ending of One flew over the Cuckoo's nest) but man this ending left me speechless.

If you are a movie fan do yourself a favor and watch all three movies because they are a piece of movie history that will be remembered for generations.

The start of an exciting journey?
24 March 2018
Let me start by saying that this was the perfect family action/adventure movie. If you go watch this movie bring your kids along because they will love it. Alicia Vikander turned out to be the perfect casting choice for the already well known heroine Lara Croft. She gave such a fresh performance and basically brought the series back to life on the big screens. The story is a great intro for whats following. I love how this one compared to the Angelina Jolie's series is way more down to earth. I was really pleasantly surprised by the villain played by Walton Goggins, he really delivered and could definitely see him doing big things in Hollywood. The only thing that annoyed me was the actor who played Lara's father. The only reason why i am giving this 8/10 is because i just couldn't take his character seriously.

All in all I am really excited about the future of this series! Go check it out if you haven't already, you wont regret it!

Decent TV Movie
23 March 2018
After watching this movie i cant say that I was left speechless but have to admit that there was definitely some decent acting and a familiar story told from a fresh and unique perspective. Nia Long who was playing the mother of Chante nailed her roll, her acting was really spot on. One could easily see how Mahershala Ali managed to score himself a golden statue. His character was the complete opposite of the one he played in Moonlight where he was the criminal with a golden heart. Here we had a troubled drug dealer who couldn't rise above his dark environment, his huge gangster ego and his selfish needs. And finally Chante gave us a really honest and fresh performance that kept me and my girlfriend watching until the end of the movie. I rate it 7 out of 10 only because i felt that the movie lacked a bit of depth.

All in all i would recommend this movie if you are into biopics.

Mindhunter (2017–2019)
Is the main character a sociopath?
14 October 2017
Two episodes down and i couldn't help but notice a couple of things:

I couldn't pick the main character out of a lineup even if someone had put a gun to my face. He is so generic and emotionless he basically blends in in the furniture. There is zero chemistry between him and his girlfriend and i cant get over their plastic conversations that sound like they have been written by someone who has not picked up a girl ever

On the other hand, there are a couple of things that have a lot of potential:

I really like the partner of the main character. His acting feels way more real and it gives an edge to the story. The cinematography in the show is something that i like. The vibe reminds me a bit of true detective. Even though the show is about two detectives, the story is unlike any other detective story out there. The perspective is fresh focusing on the "why" and not on the "how" of the crime - a good enough reason for me to definitely give it a shot with a couple of more episodes.

First impressions, not completely what i expected...
10 October 2017
This is not an easy review because i just left the theater and i have some mixed feelings about it. First of all i am a fan of the original Blade Runner, i found it really unique and interesting but when it comes to Blade Runner 2049 even though it had crazy good visuals and sound effects i thought it was a bit dull. For starters i think that the movie was a bit too long. Even though the scenes had many details (which could be a great thing especially for people who don't know the futuristic world that was introduced in the first movie) i think they overdid it a bit which made some of the scenes a bit pointless and it felt like they lead to nowhere. The main thing that was missing in order for this to be a good slow paced movie was the lack of tension. The movie felt a bit flat for the first 2/3 of it(at one point i actually dozed off for a couple of minutes). I really think they should have spent a bit more time on developing the story instead of the visual look of the movie. When it comes to the positive things that i really liked, i think Ryan Gosling did an amazing job as well as Harrison Ford. The acting was definitely spot on. The cinematographer is definitely someone we have to keep an eye on this award season. The sound effects and the whole vibe bring that old feeling from the original movie which is something that i love. Overall i rate it 7/10.

Don't even bother playing this
29 September 2017
Wow. I haven't read the book (which probably is decent since Steven King wrote it) but man this movie is really bad. The script was really weak. The visuals were really cheap. The acting was really whatever. I think Netflix screwed up with this one. I'm not even sure if there was even enough material for a 1:40 minutes long movie. How did this even get made?

Visual Masterpiece
22 July 2017
Im gonna keep this short. The movie is visually stunning. Im feeling confident that the cinematographer is getting at least an Oscar nomination. The movies flow was buttery smooth. There are a lot of comments saying that there was no character development but i feel that the movies intention was to paint the picture of the event in whole rather than to focus on an individual storyline. The sound effects were spot on and contributed a lot to the tension that everyone in the movie theater felt. I think Nolan did an amazing job. Tom Hardy was a real boss in this.

I strongly recommend it! 9/10

Disappointment
19 May 2017
I was a real big fan of Prometheus even though there were some annoying parts in it and was really looking forward to this one, however, the movie was a big let down. The story was really poor, the characters were really annoying and shallow (they were really freaking stupid for a group of handpicked cosmonauts). I honestly feel like Ridley has completely lost his touch with this one. Some of the scenes i couldn't even take seriously because they felt so off. The potential was really big because the prequel ended with a lot of exciting questions unanswered yet instead on focusing on that Ridley decided to make a movie about the most immature, incompetent, unprofessional, group of people that supposedly are scientists and cosmonauts. Feels bad man..
