Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
It was good.
"Napoleon Dynamite" is a very different style of movie. It is a very simple movie; no guns, no special effects, etc. It has very basic dialogue and a very simple story-line. However, enjoy the story-line; I like movies that show what real life is like and what most people go through on a basic day. "Napoleon Dynamite" did this. "Napoleon Dynamite" is a very basic movie and many people may say that it is just for enjoyment and that there is no thinking required whatsoever; I on the other hand think that every movie you watch makes you think, no matter how simple the story-line is: "Saw" makes you think to what extreme will you go to to survive; any Disney movie makes you think about how there are real bad guys, but unlike Disney movies they don't always get real justice, and "Napoleon Dynamite" makes you think about life. It can make you think about your life now, what your life will look like in the future, and what it was like when you were younger. When you watch a movie that accurately portrays real life you are left questioning and thinking about your life and how your life is similar to those in the movie. I do like this movie; I watched it when I was younger with my family and I think that is a big reason why I like "Napoleon Dynamite", however it isn't a movie I want to watch over and over again because the story-line is quite basic and simple. I like how is wasn't filmed with a huge budget; I remember when I was younger, I thought it was filmed by high-school students. I also really enjoy how characters were based off multiple real people and how some of the most popular catchphrases were from real life. I think the director of this movie wanted to accurately portray reality and give people a different way to analyze reality. I think this movie is more directed to teens with the jokes and some of the content, but I do think certain adults would enjoy the movie. I definitely think that "Napoleon Dynamite" is a movie and not a film. A film is for educationally benefit, like a documentary, but a movie is mainly for pleasure; "Napoleon Dynamite" is for pleasure. Overall, I did like the movie and the jokes, but I would usually prefer to watch a different movie.
Medianeras (2011)
I liked it
The movie "Sidewalls" is very different from the movies I usually watch and to be completely honest I'm not sure if I liked it or not. I thought it portrayed real life very accurately; real like is sometimes slow and a bit dull. In real life you go through conflicts caused by others or sometimes the conflicts are within; depression, anxiety, insomnia, loneliness, etc, and I think "Sidewalls" showed that. I would prefer if the movie was in English, mainly because I focused on the dialogue and didn't see some of the detail that was put into a couple shots. However, I thought "Sidewalls" was filmed very well; I personally really like it in movies when there is a voice over with shots that complement what is being said and this movie did that multiple times. I really liked how the two main characters went to the same places, were connected in several ways (the chair, the crosswalk, etc), but they never met until the end of the movie. I think the director wanted this movie to accurately portray reality: mental health issues controlling certain people's lives, how the internet is ruining face to face communication, but can also bring people together, and how everyone, at one time in their life, will feel completely and utterly alone. I think this movie can be directed towards a wide variety; mainly teens-adults. I definitely don't think this movie is appropriate for children because of some of the content and I don't think most elders would like this movie, but besides that I think this movie is targeted to most ages. I think that "Sidewalls" was a movie; it did have some things you could learn from and say was "educationally", but I do think it is more for pleasure. Overall, I do think "Sidewalls" was a good movie; I would suggest it to a friend and may even watch it again myself.
Almost Famous (2000)
I thought this movie was really good.
I personally really liked this movie; I thought it had multiple aspects that made it a really good movie. I thought the soundtrack had a very big impact on the movie and the soundtrack is one major reason why I enjoyed this film. I listen to bands like pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Police, Rolling Stones, and more; so I really enjoyed the soundtrack. I thought that it had many characters that had multiple layers. The guitarist; you think he is just a guy who cares about sex, drugs, parties, and being famous; but, in the end he allows William to write his article for Rolling Stone and telling the truth about the band "stillwater". Penny Lane, a "bandaid" that is having sex with the lead guitarist and ends up developing feelings for him is able to forget about Russell and the band and fulfil her dream by moving to Morocco. And Finally, William, a innocent 15 year old who starts the film viewing the members of "stillwater" just as celebrities, but in the end he is in love with Penny Lane and has become a friend of Russell. I think another reason why I, and many others, enjoy this film is because of the ending. Not all movies need to have a happy ending, some movies are better because of a tragic event; Titanic, Romeo and Juliette, and more. But, the happy ending in this movie leaves you with a positive opinion on Russell, you witness Penny picking a Friend (William) over a lover (Russell). The ending makes all the experiences and everything William had to sacrifice worth it. I think this film was really good, and I would be interested watching another movie like it.
The Breakfast Club (1985)
I really liked the Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club Review By:Iona McAllen
I think that this film has stood the test of time because so many people are able to relate to the characters, the issues the characters are going through; their parents, peer pressure, pressure to succeed and more. I really like this film and can relate to it because as a teenager I have lots of stress and pressures to do well in school, sports, and maintain a social life. In the film every character had something they had to deal with; Andy his dad and not being able to think for himself, Claire her parents and having to do what her friends say, Alison being alone, Brian his grades and pressure from his family, and John his parents. This film portrays the lives of teenagers very accurate; because of this many people can relate to the characters and the issues they have.
The mood the director was trying to set was that no matter who you are, what social group you belong to, who your family is, and no matter how different you are, everyone has pressures and issues they have to deal with.
This movie is directed to mainly teens, but because so many people are able to relate to the movie anyone from teenagers to adults are able to watch the movie and relate to the characters and their situations.
I think that the Breakfast club is a movie because it is for leisure entertainment.
