Interesting series up until big reveal at the end
12 April 2024
This is series is about central character Imogene played by Violette Beane who as a child loses her mother to a car bomb and the murder was never solved.

Now as an adult she is currently a guest on a cruise being hosted by her rich best friend Lauren Patten. On this cruise there are an assortment of interesting characters each with their own personal agendas.

Mandy Patinkin shines in the role of Rufus who is a private investigator. He was never able to solve Imogene's mother's murder and now is trying to make up for it.

A series of deaths occur during the cruise which leaves everyone searching for the killer. This series takes inspiration from one of Agatha Christie novels.

I thought the series was interesting and keeps you entertained up until the big final reveal of the killer/ black mailer. Ending leaves several plot holes and doesn't make a lot of sense. Also they ended series in such a way so they can continue with season2. It would have been better if this was a mini-series with proper ending.

What did I just watch?
12 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Started watching this Netflix original film because of the excellent cast in it. Main actors include Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, and Ethan Hawke all do well in their roles but it is the child actress Farrah Mackenzie that makes the most impact

It is a slow-burn end of the world movie. It starts well where they slowly build-up the suspense and keep you guessing as to what could be happening. No concrete info is provided other than what the characters are saying to each other.

But after watching this for more than two hours you expect some answers ...but you don't get any. Makes you wonder why did I waste 2 hours of my life?

Interesting plot line but disappointing ending
12 October 2023
This show starts off really well and keeps you engaged with a lot of suspense.

The three main characters Lily Rabe, Amy Brenneman and Hamish Linklater all play flawed characters ..each of them have a lot of secrets behind them. These secrets are slowly revealed as the story unfolds.

All three act really well.

The disappointing part was that the show writers didn't know how to bring it all together at the end . They create a lot of contrived plot twists which don't make much sense. They left a lot of questions unanswered at the end probably hoping there will be a season-2 which never materialized. So the viewers are left with lot of open questions.

The Diplomat (II) (2023– )

Diplomatic Soap Opera
25 April 2023
This is a international diplomatic drama that doesn't take itself seriously and runs like a soap opera.

The lead role played by Keri Russell does not seem very believable. She seems neurotic, haggard, disheveled mess most of the time. But she is supposedly "brilliant" because every harebrained idea she comes up with ends up being successful for some reason. Rufus Sewell as her husband is probably the best character in the show.

The show feels more like soap opera where the lead character is in a troubled marriage and she also seems to harbor romantic feelings for another man creating a love triangle. There are also other relationships amongst other characters which don't seem to add any value to primary theme of the story.

Best thing about the show was that it is filmed in visually pleasing locations across UK and few other places.

Watched Season1 before writing this review and not sure if I would watch the next season.

Probably best of the series
28 March 2023
I am a big fan of the series and loved the first three movies, so I watched it during release weekend.

It is longer than the first three movies and is nearly 3 hours long, but you will be fully engaged with the movie and won't feel that it is long.

They took the action sequences to the next level and set the bar for action movies. Probably no other Hollywood movie in recent memory has come up so many original action sequences.

People who watched the earlier movies should definitely go see this one and you will not be disappointed.

They made Wick look a bit more human in this one than the larger than life figure as he was depicted in the earlier movies. After 4 great movies this is a fitting end to the Wick saga.

Very bad consultant
25 February 2023
The only reason I started watching the show was because of Christoph Waltz. His talent was wasted in the show. Rest of the cast seemed ok.

The premise of the show is very weak. A guy literally walks into an organization and tells everyone that he is the boss and starts behaving like a dictator and less like a corporate boss. Anyone that has ever worked in corporate America would know that the kind of things this consultant gets away with (like sniffing all employees, firing people at will, and kicking out handicapped employees to name a few) is nonsensical and would only result in hundreds of lawsuits.

The story seemed boring and not at all funny. It is billed as Comedy but this is more a bizarre story.

Just another apocalypse series
6 February 2023
I am writing this after watching the first 4 episodes.

I don't understand all the superlative 10/10 reviews I am seeing for this show. To me it felt like just another apocalyptic end of the world zombies show.

I have never played the video game related to this. But Perhaps lot of the people who are writing these 10 /10 ratings are comparing with the video game. But it is crazy that they decided it was excellent after watching the first episode.

The show is based the premise that everyone in the world is infected with some fungal infection which turns them into zombies. The survivors are dealing with the aftermath. The story picks up 20 years after the apocalypse.

I thought Pedro Pascal was good in the show. Otherwise rest of the cast including Bella Ramsey as Ellie was very annoying and not worth the trouble watching.

If you want to watch just another zombie show then go for it, otherwise you can skip it.

Yashoda (2022)
5/10
Loosely based on a Hollywood movie
9 December 2022
The theme of Yashoda movie is loosely based on a Hollywood movie called "Level 16". They copied the central concept from the English movie and adapted it to an Indian audience.

This is a mystery/suspense film. The only reason anybody should watch this film is because of Samantha without her whole thing is almost unwatchable. This is kind of a low budget movie with ample usage of CGI/Graphics etc. The film narration is kind of patchy and disjointed. The dialogues and direction seems quite pedestrian.

I thought in the end they dragged it on for too long even after the mystery plot has been revealed.

Good legal drama
17 May 2022
Iam a fan of Lincoln Lawyer series of novels from Michael Connelly and this one stays close to the roots but not totally.

This is the first time watching the lead actor and thought he did a decent job. Neve Campbell as his ex does a good job. Other characters were ok.

The first 8 episodes were really good but the last 2 episodes dragged on without adding any value.

Overall enjoyable show.

Not the Eden you want to visit
17 May 2022
Watched first 4 episodes and couldn't take it anymore.

This series is set in a most scenic location and with some very good looking people in it.

But plot development is very slow. Literally nothing happened in episodes 2 and 3.

Every one behaves in a foolish and irrational manner. Total waste of your time please stay away.

Mockery of Poirot
17 April 2022
This is such a horrendous adaptation of Poirot that it is completely unwatchable. Anybody who watches this movie will think Poirot is an absolute fool. The movie is supposedly happening in 1930's but it looks like it is happening in 2020's.

Acting, direction, cinematography, editing, CGI and dialogues are absolutely garbage. There is nothing good about the movie except for the cast, whose talent was completely wasted here.

Don't waste two hours of your life watching this movie. Instead watch the TV adaptation featuring David Suchet which is lot lot better.

Not the best Chris Nolan movie
23 May 2021
Before I write the review... I have to mention that I am a big fan of Chris Nolan and think that he comes up with exceptional movies....but this movie is not one of his best efforts. The six stars are for coming up with the concept of the movie.

The movie is almost impossible to follow during first watching. You get the concept and theme but don't understand what exactly is going on. Also I thought the dialogues are hard to follow because of so many things are going on at the same time and it was loud and noisy at times.

The lead actor John David Washington gave a wooden performance and probably not the best choice for the role. Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki give better performances. Overall the movie leaves you dissatisfied and confused.

Watchable movie except for the male lead actor
9 May 2021
This movie has a decent script and dialogues. The location and scenery is amazing. It is a really interesting horror flick.

The only downside to the movie is the lead actor Jim Cummings. This guy makes everything painful. He seems to be screaming ALL the time and having a panic attack in every scene ......which is really really annoying. Others like Riki Lindhome and Chloe East do a fine job.

Not a great competition show
15 March 2021
I am big fan of Phil Keoghan and his Amazing Race show. So, when I read that he has a new show called Tough-as-Nails.... I had great expectations from this one. I have watched entire first season and was disappointed. The show is ok if you don't have anything else to watch...but otherwise wouldn't recommend it. The work aspect has been made into a game show and various competitors participate for a 200k prize money along with several other team prizes. The is supposed to be a reality show but seems to be extremely scripted. While the show is supposed to be about people who are tough-as-nails.... they seem to be overly emotional and talk a lot about their feelings. Don't think I will watch the second season.

Clarice (2021)

Disappointing sequel
15 March 2021
There have been many sequels to Silence of the lambs.... but none of them focused on Clarice until now. So obviously first thing you look for is comparison to the legendary character played by Jodie Foster. This new Clarice pales in comparison. Original Clarice was very analytical/ smart beyond her young age, whereas this new Clarice seems like a clueless emotional wreck. The tension between Clarice and her boss seems to be way overdone and seems too unrealistic. This show suffers from very poor writing.

This is a sequel that nobody needs to watch.

Boring Political Satire
9 February 2021
I expected the movie to be a comedy (based on the trailer) , but it was more of a drama. Movie is about money in our election process. How money controls everything in the election process both on the left and the right. Coming from Jon Stewart, I expected more laughs but it was kinda boring and lame. Considering the pedigree of the cast/director it was really an opportunity wasted. Steve Carrell was not at his best. The ending was patronizing and condescending. Did not like the ending. While the message of the movie is about our messed up political system, it could have been handled a lot better. 5/10 mainly for the star power in the movie.

Finally a good movie from Netflix
7 February 2021
This is a well made movie. Highlight of the movie is excellent acting by Adarsh Gourav and direction by Ramin Bahrani.

Movie is about the protagonist (Adarsh Gourav) who is from a poor lower caste family in rural India and how he manages to fight his way up the success ladder against some very tough odds. Movie is quite serious and dark most of the time with an undertone of humor because of the way the story is narrated by the lead actor. There are no good guys in the movie just shades of grey where people do whatever is necessary to get ahead in life. Movie includes lot of social commentary about Indian society.

Overall the movie keeps you engaged till the end. However the ending may not be for everyone.

Painfully Slow Movie .....such a waste of talented actors
25 December 2020
Theme of the movie has promise but it never goes anywhere. Has good set of actors but their talent is wasted. Technically it is a very good movie...Cinematography / Special effects etc are very good. The movie leaves too many questions unanswered....makes you wonder if this is intentional or just bad narration?

Terrible copy of Agatha Christie mystery
7 December 2020
Writing this review after watching Season-1. I do love Norwegian/Scandinavian crime shows... but there is nothing Norwegian about this. This is a very bad imitation of Agatha Christie mystery Ten Little Indians (And Then There Were None). Story is supposed to be happening on an offshore oil rig cut off from mainland during a hurricane. There is a killer on board who is killing off people. Writing , acting and direction is all terrible. Please don't waste your time watching this show.

Is this supposed to be a comedy?
5 December 2020
I started watching the series as it had some of my favorite actors (like Hugh Laurie) in it. The premise of the show had good potential but I think the opportunity has been squandered with poor writing and extremely poor character development. The show was noisy/ loud/ nonsensical and not at all funny. I really love the SciFi genre and loved shows like Orville. But there is nothing likable about the show. I did not get any the jokes. Wasted opportunity.

Reboot of Super soldier movie genre
4 December 2020
The reason I watched this movie because it has Vin Diesel in it. It is full of action sequences. The film does not disappoint you if you are watching it for good action. Don't expect anything else in terms of quality film making. Vin Diesel is an invincible super soldier in the movie. It immediately reminded me of some of the older movies from eighties and nineties like Universal Soldier. I understand this movie is based on a comic book series. If they are trying to build a movie franchise out of this, then I would say it is a weak start.

Interesting thriller with excellent acting by Hugh Grant
4 December 2020
This is a fairly good thriller/murder mystery. It keeps you interested till the very end (except for the last 10 minutes). Thought Hugh Grant did very well in the lead male role with good supporting acting by Noah Jupe. New actress Matilda De Angelis did a fine job. The only negative to the whole show is Nicole Kidman's acting. Definitely below par for her. Because of excessive cosmetic surgeries to her face it is tough to make out any facial expressions... and in some cases downright distracting to watch her.

Completely different Star Wars movie
29 November 2020
The final episode of Star Wars saga was quite disappointing to the Star Wars followers.

Star Wars movies were always about use of the force either in a positive or negative way. This film completely breaks tradition and leaps into magical/ fantasy realm. There weren't really any characters worth rooting for. I almost rooted for Emperor. In the ending I was not sure why Rey would inherit the Skywalker name/title. I think movie cared more about commercial aspects rather than keeping fans happy.

This is about parents of a teenage girl trying to cover up the misdeeds of their child. The whole movie is painfully slow. Parents keep making really stupid decisions one after another with disastrous results.

Season-1 was really good. Season-2 is going downhill really quick
6 October 2020
Really liked the Season-1. Season-1 was a fresh take on Super heroes. It was fresh/ irreverent/ funny/ violent/ sexy. There seemed to be a purpose to the story which was engaging. I was looking forward to watching Season-2. But Season-2 turned out to be a very big disappointment. I have never seen a show degenerate so fast in its second season. Whatever components made Season-1 so good, the writers of Season-2 made sure they don't exist anymore. The writing seems to be all over the place. It NOT funny and irreverent anymore. There is a huge element of political correctness injected into the show. Very disappointing. I am going to stop watching this.
