This glorious ninja relic from the 1980s earns itself an eight out of ten based on the opening scene alone. What a wonderful massacre of golf d-bags, floozies, security guards, a helicopter pilot and what feels like millions of police officers -- basically soft core pornography for eleven-year-old me, staying up late to watch this at my cousin's during sleepovers, or after renting the video from the store on the corner of my street and eating doritos and guzzling Coca Cola. Also, I didn't notice it at the time but wow the main character is HOT. Never forget, only a ninja can kill a ninja and V8 does a body good.

The Pope's Exorcist
(2023)
May not be what you expect and want.
3 May 2023
Catholic possession horror is my favourite genre of horror so I get excited when anything new is released. I know others feel the same way. We want deep dark devil doom to terrorize us the way the Exorcist did. The Pope's Exorcist let's you know from the opening scene that the tone is not what most of us are hoping for. This movie doesn't take itself very seriously and yea thats disappointing, however it's not completely bad either. It watches more like a superhero movie than a horror. There are some creepy moments I guess but nothing that's going to weigh on you when you're trying to fall asleep that night. I dunno. I didn't hate it but I understand why some people can't get over the disappointment of what they were hoping for. The plot relies too much on exposition in the dialogue. That's my main gripe. 6.5/10.
The Banshees of Inisherin

Banshees might not be what you expect

Plot-driven viewers seem to have a tough time with this movie. Everyone looking for a pay off gives me a giggle. This film is outstanding in the way many classic pieces of literature are despised. Enjoy the acting, scenery, dialogue and voices. Accept that not every writer/narrator is obligated to give you a profound happy ending. Although we are given exactly that -- a profound happy ending for those willing to step out of their own safe, oblivious perspectives, and into the dark, stubborn human condition.
I wish I didn't need to write three hundred and fifty more characters to post this review.

Prey
(I) (2022)
I was skeptical

This movie delivered. The CGI turned me off a bit at the beginning but I stuck with it and I have to say this movie delivered big time. So used to being dissatisfied by entries into the predator franchise. Thank you for creating this.
P.s. Ignore the manly men crying in the reviews.

Scarborough
(2021)
Understated and a pretty nice film

However the scarborough man in me will always wonder how mans dem walked from bellamy and lawrence to Kingston and Galloway so fast tho still.
P.s. If you haven't read the book, you should read the book.
Scarborough Forever.

Spiderhead
(2022)
I ENJOYED THIS HOWEVER
19 June 2022
The short story is much better. You can read it on the New Yorker. Search for escape from spiderhead. Anyway, I loved the soundtrack and it turned out to be a fun little movie, but the moral of the short story, and the character arc within it, is totally lost in this movie.
Dave Chappelle: The Closer
(2021 TV Special)
The best writing occurs in between the lines

I think in this performance he needed to be a little more overt in what he was saying. It's art and it's up to the viewer to interpret, but in this case, knowing that emotions were going to cloud interpretations, a little more exposition might have helped. To each their own. He isn't promoting or enabling violence with this set and I do think it's time for him to move on to some fresh material.
Midnight Mass
(2021)
Midnight Mass isn't for everyone

But it legit makes me sad for IMDB that there are so many people who just absolutely try to tank a movie's rating. It is not a 1 or a 2 or a 3 or a 4 no matter how much the production didn't do it for you. You aren't being honest. You're being a dumb kid. Or maybe you're just jealous? Lots of angry sounding wannabe writers crying about monologues. Just stop it. This series is quality.
The Night House
(2020)
A nice dark aesthetic and a consistent tone
26 August 2021
This film is pretty OK in my book. It took itself seriously and pulled it off. More of a psychological thriller than a horror. The actors all delivered. There were some aspects of the story that could've used some more fleshing out. Hard to do without breaking the perspective of our main character. Don't want to spoil. Go see it in theater if you get the chance.
Army of the Dead
(2021)
Wanted to like it

I thought the first 7 minutes were decent. Had a good vibe. I liked Bautistas introduction as a character. I thought he performed well. Didn't love the intro montage w/ credits. The whole thing just started to feel really sloppy and all over the place. I might try watching it again. I dunno man. I just don't know.
Mortal Kombat
(2021)
Pretty Fun

Could this movie have been better? For sure. Are the characters fun? Yes. Are the fight scenes good? Absolutely. I would've liked a couple more ninja scenes worked in. I feel the ninja genre is under served and there's a ripe opportunity to bring it back. And of course they had two of the coolest ninjas ever at their disposal.
The Queen's Gambit
(2020)
Love it but it feels incomplete.

Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers Alert📢
Great series with a lot of unanswered questions:
Harmon's parents came from money but its a long story. One not worth sharing apparently. Harmon is a strategic genius, what was the deal with her parents? Are her parents the reason Harmon's CIA chaperone tells her that they have reason to believe Borgov will attempt to communicate or signal her?
"How will I know?" she asks her chaperone.
"I don't know, I'm not a chess player," says her chaperone.
When Borgov loses he goes against Russian norms and tips his king, then picks up the king and puts it in Harmon's hand.
Was there a note in the king? Did he lose on purpose so he could hand her the king? Did the note say to go meet the old man at the chess park?
The writing in this series is too good to just include random information for no reason. To me it feels like they planned to makes this series longer but then just settled on the ending after seven episodes.

The Call of the Wild
(2020)
A very loose interpretation of the novel
22 February 2020
And thank goodness for that. The novel is beautifully written and also heartbreaking. The movie pulls at the heart strings enough to be effective without ripping said heart apart.
I watched this in an AVX/Dbox theatre. Lots of kids and laughs in the theatre. Go and see it.
