Why Would A NPC Have A Daily Personal Life?!
In what seems from the first glimpse as a brainless CGI gaming spoof, you truly get what you expected. A bank teller discovers that he's actually an Non Playable Character in an open world action video game.
The story if there was any is as limited as it sound, when I read people comparing it to The Trueman Show I expected much but don't let this lie fool you, it has no heartwarming moments, no deep thinking and no originality what so ever. It doesn't offer more than contradiction with both gaming and the story context.
For any gamer, we know that any NPC has a limited presence in the game, they show up in certain situation and locations and we either interact with them or not, they never enjoy a full life inside the game! Which contradicts the main concept behind this film. Placing this fact aside, the story itself is weak, the jokes is mostly clichéd and the villain is a two dimensional joke.
After wasting a couple of hours you come to realize this: Free Guy is a pointless, brainless - which is expected - and emotionless CGI ride. The kind of movie that asks you this: In case you have no life or nothing to do at all...Leave your brain somewhere and just force a smile on your face for 2 hours.
