Terror on the Prairie (2022)
Genuinely enjoyed it
I'm not going to say it's perfect, but I enjoyed watching it. Pacing is a little slow and there isn't a lot of scene change etc. That said, I felt invested in the characters and the crappy situation they were in and my eyes were glued to the screen through the many action scenes.
I wouldn't watch this for a western cinematic film, I'd watch it with someone and just discussing how you'd handle this situation while you watch her do her best. There were plenty of mistakes, plenty of bad ass scenes, and genuinely just entertaining.
I'd recommend it. Also Gina Carano is a badass and this film is no exception. Most of the rest of cast is fine and does the job, but she is the one that shines for this film.
Another Life (2019)
If you laugh at horror films, you'll like this.
This show is absolute garbage. My favorite part is telling my roommate the summary of an episode and his perplexed face as he tries to understand what I just said. My goodness this show is a laughingly bad soap opera, but it is SO entertaining if you don't take it seriously.
Charlie's Angels (2019)
I don't get the hate
I went into the movie hoping for sexy lady spies, and I got sexy lady spies. There was feminism, but it wasn't "all guys are bad" it's "women can be great too".
The plot was as good as modern movies of this type, which means it wasn't very good but good enough to get the movie A to Z
Action was pretty good and fairly well done.
All the reviews says they hate men in this, and I just can't agree. There were several males that were helping them along the way, there was a love interest with one of the angels and a random boy, several leaders of the angels we're guys. They never once implied that females are better than males, or that a female couldn't be bad. They never implied it was wrong to be a guy, and the women had flaws in character addressed on screen and were overcame by hardwork, nothing more. There were several times where men where doing dumb ass stuff and there wasn't a female doing dumb ass stuff, but there was a lot of guys who showed the girls whatfor. They allowed the girls to be sexy during sexy scenes, and they never implied it was bad for the girls to be sexually attractive.
Overall I feel like the movie earns a 7/10 for being nice and decent, and I don't think it would be much improved if everyone was replaced by a guy most likely.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Firstborn (1994)
A very good episode
It seems that most people who review the episode are put off by it. I thought it was a very good episode that brought Worf and his son closer together and showed what kind of future it might hold for both of them.
When Alexander is hesitant about becoming a warrior, his father takes him to see a Klingon festival, so as to convince him that his culture is rich. They end up being attacked, and a stranger saves them. He is from the same house as Worf and tries to explain to young Alex that he needs to be able to fight to protect himself and those he cares about.
I felt that the entire episode showed how Klingons can be rough and be a warrior race, and yet manage to be kind and affectionate when appropriate.
*spoiler*
They thing that seems to be off-putting for the reviewers is the fact that the stranger that appeared in this episode is Alex from the future. The reason is because Alex decides to grow up not being a warrior, but wanting peace between the households. As a result, Worf dies in his arms in roughly 30 years from now. He wants to force himself to be less foolish and to become a warrior so that his father doesn't die. Worf ends up saying that he is proud of Alex, saying that peace is a worthwhile goal and that now he has come to the future who knows how Worf will die.
The reason for Alex going to the future is a bit, well, not existent. Just that he met a man in some sector that could help. Worf did believe him a little quick, but it wasn't completely unreasonable, I've heard worse excuses from ST:TNG.
PS: I also enjoyed someone *else* time traveling and *we* have to take their acts on faith; too many times has someone gone to the future/past and had to explain themselves to the poor people of that episode, it was fun to see the exact opposite happening.
*end spoiler*
While the execution and development of certain aspects of the episode were somewhat poor, the story was entertaining and something I was very glad to see, especially in the last (and perhaps poorest) season of the show.
V for Vendetta (2005)
Not perfect, but brilliant
This film is brilliant. 1812 Overture was never played for a more brilliant scene in movie history. The entire film was thought out and full of philosophy and brilliant lines. There were a couple of action scenes that were entertaining as well. A beautiful story about how a government can slowly go from being protective to being controlling. The film was not perfect, however. There were confusing scenes, some things that could not be physically possible etc etc. However, the story was dark and frightening on a person level, but had a twist of humor throughout the entire film. Oh, and that ending was brilliant, I know of no better way they could have ended it. It is a classic that I think most people should watch.
The Grey (2011)
The Fray fits it perfectly
"Once more into the fray... Into the last good fight I'll ever know. Live and die on this day... Live and die on this day..." (John Treloar, The Fray).
This film is beautiful, scary, twisted, and beautiful again.
The only thing that got annoying was the constant language, I think sailors swear less. However, I understand. The situation they are in deserves some swear words. Also, Liam Neeson is his usual amazing self. Worth watching without a doubt!
PS: stay after the credits. There isn't too much content afterward, but it might make you feel like it had more closure.
Spectre (2015)
I really enjoyed this movie
I don't get all the hate of this movie. I understand if someone liked Skyfall or Casino Royale better, but I very much enjoyed this movie.
I saw a lot of characters that I recognized from other places (BBC's Sherlock Holmes Moriarty and that awesome villain from Inglorious Basterds)
I enjoyed the action.
It wasn't perfect, and had weaker moments, but it was well worth the money watching it. Also, the scene in Mexico was awesome (if not realistic).
It's worth the watch :)
Rick and Morty (2013)
Absolutely horrible, absolutely hilarious
2 parts Doc and Marty from Back to the Future, 1 part Doctor Who, and 2 parts screwed up Adult Swim (makers of stuff like Robot Chicken). This show is basically a drunk version of Doc (Rick) dragging the awkward teenage version of Marty (Morty) around on Doctor Who like events, often ending the adventure with destroying a few planets and/or totally blowing/horrifying poor Morty's mind.
The humor is often dark and twisted, often with a sexual undertone, and is very well done.
Content wise: they swear a decent bit, but the f-word is always bleeped out (I assume so they could have the TV-14 rating), the sexual content straddles the line between TV-PG and TV-14 (depending on the episode), violence is often present and bloody (but more in a comedic over the top way than disturbing way), and alcohol/drugs are always present (the grandfather is a barely functioning alcoholic and drugs are occasionally used (fictional or otherwise) as a gag for a moment.)
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
What the fans deserve
This is what the prequels should have been.
Honestly, this film is episode 4, a lil bit of 5 and 6, shaken up in a bottle with new characters and planets, then released in a world of awesome visuals.
Some fans complain that this is too much like the original trilogy, and perhaps it is, but better to play it safe then have another phantom menace again. I believe, just like how episode 5 was better then 4, that the sequel to this movie will be better.
It is a beautiful film that will be amazing for star wars fans and pretty cool to non-star wars fans.
Archer (2009)
Messed up, in a good way!
This show is entirely messed up, but hilarious.
I watched all 6 seasons on a binge during break. All episodes are funny, some are hilarious, and some have a good story. Some of the episodes make you forget that it is a comedy and more of a spy drama...until the next gut buster.
So far I have enjoyed all seasons, even Archer Vice (season 5). It is good to see them willing to branch out of their usual spy formula and mix it up (with, say, selling off a literal ton of cocaine...)
I can't wait until season 7!
PS season 1 is hilarious but the characters aren't well defined or animated yet. For example, Cheryl hasn't started her chocking fetish yet and the animation sucks compared to later seasons.
Circle (2015)
What is the worst humanity has to offer?
This film is not for everyone. It is simplistic, it is low budget, but it is interesting. What do people REALLY think?
Do black people REALLY have the same rights as whites?
What about gay people? Should 2 gay people really have their own family?
Are you employed? Do you have a purpose in society?
Do old people deserve to live as much as a young person?
Who is more important, a young girl or a pregnant woman?
What about criminals? Do they deserve to live?
This movie is all about one simple question: who deserves to live? Do YOU deserve to live?
Jurassic World (2015)
Very well done
It wasn't perfect, but it was worth the title Jurassic Park (World...whatever)
It felt like Jurassic Park 1 in character, except expanded and much bigger.
Only minor complaints:
product placement, but at least they knew it and had fun with it.
And not nearly enough original content.
It was awesome! And totally paid homage to the original.
I seriously don't know which I like better, JP or JW...
PS: hope you like jump scares...
Gone Girl (2014)
Started well and then went down hill
You can read all of the other reviews on the entire lame story and the plot holes, I'm just voicing the quality of the movie.
It was boring. It felt like it was stretched just so it could be a feature length movie.
I hated all the characters. No one was really good, and no one was completely evil (the wife stole the cake though). Only 3 characters I even kinda liked: The sister GO (such a dumb nickname), the lawyer guy the husband gets, because he is refreshing and funny from this dumb movie, and the female cop (she is the smartest person in the film, and she is of average intelligence)
There was excessive sexual and language. I understand sex is natural part of life and of story, and I get language helps with getting across emotions of characters, but it felt they were using both to hold the movie together at times, and that isn't right.
It was a horrible thriller. When the wife goes bye bye no one who is at ALL used to mystery and thrillers expects him to be the bad guy. Why? He is the very 1st person you think would do it! And unless they are being very very very smart and do a heck of a good story tell (and this isn't), then it won't be the first person. The entire rest of the movie is "thriller" and "suspense" in what happens between husband and wife. The husband says a few smart things in public and totally is the definition of stupid moron otherwise. The wife just is pissy or wanting to come up with ideas and plans to hide her actions as if she were 15.
The ending? Boring. No one wins, no ones loses...It felt like she went on a heck of a holiday for a while, killing people and just goofing off, then coming back to a loving husband. All the while the husband was a stupid jerk who seemed to make every wrong choice, and never did anything.
It was rather interesting and then it turned into stupid, then creepy, then stupid AND creepy, all the while being boring...what the heck?
PS what was with the baby thing? Did she steal his semen or something for him to live with her for 18 years? Also, why did she even want him? She hated him!
Whatever, I'm just glad the movie is over. Redbox can have the stupid movie back!
Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)
Much better than expected.
I'll say that this movie is much better than Noah. Noah, was an insult. Big boat dude, and crazy selfish guy named Noah builds it. That is pretty much what they got from the Bible.
Exodus is so much more respectful, and yet creative. I was going in expecting Noah 2, but was pleasantly surprised.
It is a unique story, with creative flair. It is full of creative liberty and freedom. They took the basic idea, and the feel/meaning, and carved it for a more modern audience.
For example:
***minor spoiler...I guess***
The 1st plague, turning red of the Nile River, was not done with a staff in the water. Giant crocodiles came up and...well...acted like the shark in Jaws. Along with the death of all the fish, the water turned red with blood.
I am alright with this. It stayed rather close to the 1st plague, and kept the same mood. The beginning of the end for Egypt, signified with blood. The upcoming doom that they would bring upon themselves.
***end of spoiler***
I am a Christian, and I hated Noah. It was disrespectful in every sense. Exodus: Gods and Kings was not this way. It was unique, and it was good. It took the story of the Bible and did it in such a way to make it interesting and a fresh story, without twisting God or the Bible out of it. Therefore, it has my seal of approval.
Pacific Rim (2013)
You get what you expect
If you are looking for a deep and twisting plot, an amazing love story, incredible realism, or a deep character development, watch a different movie.
If you want bad-ass 25-30 story tall robots fighting bad-ass 25-30 story tall sea monsters, YOU'RE IN LUCK!
The plot is simple. Monsters come from the ocean and attack humanity, repeatedly, until humanity says screw it lets build giant robots to fight these monsters.
The majority of the movie is a well made action movie with the feeling of Godzilla.
The monsters (known as Kaiju which is Japanese for monsters) are beautiful looking and all incredibly different with their own personality.
The robots (known as Jaegars which is German for hunter or huntsman)are all incredibly powerful looking with their own personality and individuality as well.
If you want to watch a movie that will make your jaw drop from incredible, powerful, gigantic action then you HAVE to watch this movie. If that doesn't interest you then this movie won't interest you.
I highly recommend watching this movie if any sort monster vs anything action interests you.
