Breakthrough (2019)

Shows the power of Faith in Prayer.
9 May 2019
I'm not much of a Christian movie fan. That said, the quality of them is much better than even a few years ago. Based on a true story, this film follows a mother as her faith carries her and her family through the death and resurrection of her son after he falls through the ice of a frozen pond and drowns. It shows that miracles continue to bless us all the time, and that faith CAN move mountains; just like Jesus said.

Chick flick....
20 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this annoying 2hr waste of my time, because I liked Ingrid Bergman in other things she'd appeared in (i.e. Casablanca), a classic! But the plot of this dog was about a woman in middle-age crisis in the 1960s. She's involved in a "safe" (to her mind) relationship with a middle-aged womanizer, who treats her like the piece of furniture that she acts like. Until a spoiled rich, young, aimless man (Tony Perkins) decides that she's what he's been looking for. So, for 1-1/2hrs you sit through her not being able to make up her mind what she should do. Maybe this has value a culturally relevant timepiece study, but not as entertainment. At least not for me. Like I said "chick flick".

Over the top
19 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I just watched this not-so-cleverly disguised commercial for the POTUS. As an action film I enjoyed it for about 70% of the film. Then it went completely "Hollywood". The chief of the Secret Service staging a coup. Emily taking video of a guy who would obviously blow her head off was the beginning of the ridiculousness. The POTUS climbing around an elevator shaft, etc. There were a bunch more examples, but you get the idea. The White House & Capitol buildings are destoryed and maybe 40 dead law enforcement and federal employees; but the happy ending with the Middle East unanimously agreeing to a peace deal from the president. Again, it is a good action film.

Just for laughs
13 February 2019
Everything I read about this absurd film is true. It's a really bad version of Buckaroo Banzai. It looks like a film that you borrowed money from your relatives to make because you felt you were the next Stephen Spielberg. Dumb storyline, stupid dialog, grade school acting, Cheap sets (i.e. the Nazi camp was bed sheets thrown over stick frames), and rediculous music all combine to make this movie a "cult classic". A classic for Mystery Science Theater 3000 that is.

*#%?!@$&

Warning: Spoilers
I guess that I'm getting too old to pay to see what's passing for cinematic entertainment. With all of the ongoing hate and anger in the world, I dont want to watch watch a film that leaves me depressed at the end. I quickly lost count of how many times "F" was used. Maybe that's the way that people speak to each other, but not in any of the conversations that I have on a daily basis. It cheapens the value of whatever the director is trying to say to me. Aside from that, and the Suicide, I probably could have liked the picture.

Garbage
10 August 2018
I rarely turn off a film, but I did this one after about 20 minutes of cinematic debuachery. It was airing on Epix at 10:30 in the morning. And we wonder why society is going into the abyss with entertainment of this caliber. Enough said.

2-1/2 hrs of mindless chaos
23 May 2018
I really liked the first Guardians of the Galaxy. Likewise Iron Man & The Avengers. But these never-ending franchise add-ons are pretty boring unless you're 12 or a CGI junkie. There's very little evidence of a story behind all of the mind-boggling action, over acted drama, and special effects. It drives me nuts anymore, when fighting takes a 5 minute 'time out' for a lame, "poignant" dialog scene. I guess that I've seen too many of these to enjoy them anymore.

Enjoyable film that would've been better without the #@!?*#$&!!!
28 May 2005
The story was good, the plot somewhat implausible by comparison to other films of this type, but the film was enjoyable and could've been a very acceptable PG-13 IF the dialog wasn't overloaded with (unecessary) profanity. Everyone loved Bruce Willis (who almost always plays the same type of character)in the Die Hard series. Well, essentially he's back in this film about a disenfranchised former Secret Service agent. Even though his slovenly life style demonstrates his reaction of disillusionment at being railroaded out of his prestigious government job, by a corrupt public official, he maintains his idealistic morals resembling those taught by the Boy Scouts. This is an otherwise good film ruined mostly by all of the foul language, especially out of the mouth of his 9 year old daughter! I would've liked to have seen much more of Halle Berry.

Pinnacle Sam Pekinpah (Director)
27 May 2005
Hits all of the base emotions and mental capabilities...gratuitously. Dustin Hoffman as the initially naive nerd is brilliant. He is pushed around and manipulated by his bored and lustful wife, Susan George, into going to her hometown for his research work. Three or four plot elements go on at the same time. The story unfolds, as does Hoffman and the rest of the cast, into a lust-fest of debauchery and hate. Hoffman tries to ignore it, but he is eventually forced to get involved. The demons consume themselves in wonderful Pekinpah fashion. This film is one of those shamefull self indulgences which should be watched with hot, fresh, buttered popcorn, and being sure that you've gone to the bathroom before you sit down to watch it. If you enjoy this film and you haven't seen The Getaway or The Wild Bunch, then you will want to see those too.
