88 Minutes (2007)

An enjoyable well acted story
25 February 2007
Just finished watching 88 Minutes, starring Al Pacino.

A fine performance and a good well made film which moves at a steady pace and comes in at just over 90 mins. The usual solid performance from Pacino and a good cast make this film easy on the eye, but to be truthful a bit too easy on the brain.

Plays almost like a made for TV movie, all be it a well made one. Every single person in the film could be a suspect and whilst watching I could feel myself thinking that the director went slightly over the top with that aspect.

This film will not win any awards and now I know the ending, cannot see me ever watching it again but I was entertained and felt a certain satisfaction of saying "told you it was them" to my partner afterwards.

pointless or something like it

Warning: Spoilers
So I watched this film having read the odd review and thought hey I will give it a try. What a shame really, no depth to any of the characters, in fact not one person stood out in this film.

*****POSSIBLE SPOILER***************** ********************************************

So the point is that the prophet was right every time except in the case of life or death!! Well that was a relief then, if we had known that at the start I wouldnt have bothered watching. The only part that made me laugh out loud was the voice over at the end...

and Jack did not say "only part of you will die" he said "you will die"

and to be perfectly honest if that is someones idea of living each day like its your last!!.......then god help us all...

sounds like I really did not like this film. Truth be told I watched it in the hope something slightly interesting would happen........................alas it did'nt.................

"pointless or something like it".................

complete dissapointment
2 August 2003
Warning: Spoilers
After being a avid fan of the first(very dark) and the second(funny and action packed) terminator films I was really looking forward to seeing the new installment. It was hyped up big time and the bits thats were previewed looked exciting with a sense of humour.....could this film exceed and better the first two.........................NO

the action sequences(although good)did not engage me as a viewer. They kind of happened and that was that......no edge of the seat, no NOT wanting to tear yourself away from the screen... in fact I didn't care if I was watching or not....

************************************************************************ *************POSSIBLE SPOILER*******************************************

can someone please explain to me why John Connor has gone from a streetwise kid to a blithering idiot who clearly has learnt nothing from his mother...and the simple fact that his message to me(the viewer) throughout the film was that he will avoid "judgement day"...... surely he must have realised that if that was EVER to happen he would NOT exist(bearing in mind he father was sent by him in the future, after judgement day)...........my point is though that he should have been more prepared for what was gonna happen and that running away from it was as pointless as this sequel............

the acting was poor(but thankfully not as bad as the jokes).............and if anyone wants to disagree with my comments well...............

talk to the hand!!!!!!!!!!

Magnolia (1999)

i have seen many films
21 July 2003
I have seen many many long and in depth films which required you to listen , to watch and to learn but of all the 3 hour plus films maybe "magnolia" is the best.

Excellent acting from all concerned in particular Julianne Moore and Phillip Hoffman. Tom Crusie just gets better and better.... thought he excelled in "born on the 4th Of July" but this is his best work to date....

Character driven and they basically make the film the superb experience it is. A shout out to Aimee Mann who handles the soundtrack with verve and wonderfull timing. I really like the bit whenever "Donnie the quiz kid" drives his car, being a brit "dreams" by Gabrielle bring back good memories, clearly it is a fave song of Donnie and seems to be the only track he has on his car stereo!!

Remember don't take it personally its only a "freak occurance" !!!!!

I cannot recommend this film highly enough...superb acting, superb cinematography, and excellent use of a superb soundtrack..... if you never see this film you do NOT know what you are missing!!!!!!!!!!!

Identity (2003)
does cusack just get better
20 July 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I read previous reviews of this film and did quite well to avoid any spoilers.

What a superb film, excellent edge of the seat start and from that moment on I was gripped. I like a film with a twist and I normally get the "twist" before it happens! Identity though I must admit I was clueless to the twist and did not see it coming. When realisation hit me, I carried on watching and enjoyed the film till the then very predictable ending.

I would recommend this film though on two counts. 1)the great atmosphere and 2)excellent cast(in particular Cusack)...
