Great Western far above average!!!!
18 November 2002
Many viewers may not expect this little known tale to grab their attention, but that,s exactly what it does. There are no spectacular gunfights, cavalry vs indians or raucous barroom brawls. It is quite simply a character study of a haunted man trying to exchange his reputation for a simple quiet existence far from his reputation. I suggest you watch this movie without outside interuptions. Don,t over analyze it,just accept it for what it is. Damn good storytelling.

CLASSIC FORD
8 October 2002
This film although rarely shown, has one beautiful vignette after another. Although a remake of Fords JUDGE PRIEST,we see a small town, where everybody is brought together by Charlie Winninger who portrays Judge Priest. The scene where he campaigns for the decent burial for the Prostitute who has come home to die, just might be one of the finest sequences ever put on film. A film only Ford could pull off, and does!! Don,t miss this one.

Monument Valley in all it,s glory!!!!!
30 September 2002
Another excellent slice of day to day life at a cavalry post. Cast is excellent, with John Waynes portayal of Captain Brittles worthy of oscar nomination. But it is the scenery that steals the show. Monument valley shown in color for the first time that is simply breathtaking ,as a western one of the finest!!

Poetic telling of the Gunfight at the O.K corral
30 September 2002
John Fords subtle re-telling of the most famous gunfight of the old west, holds the viewers attention from start to finish. Fondas Wyatt Earp,Matures Doc Holliday and Walter Brennans murderous old man Clanton, form three distinct outlines of the old west. And when Wyatt(Fonda) walks "Clementine" to church it is simply one of the finest sequences ever put on film. Although the movie is not historically accurate,it is still a movie to put it simply, enjoyed time after time. Fords other westerns up to this point were all pretty good. But "MY DARLING CLEMENTINE" is quite simply poetry!!!

Great western, great characters- GOOD TRIUMPHS OVER EVIL!!!
27 September 2002
One of John Waynes best roles.. And even though he realizes that when he kills Liberty Valance he is really killing himself. For he knows his vision of the west is dying, just as Valance knows his west is dying when he sees the lawbooks. And hard to notice but has anyone else seen the quick little smirky grin, he gives to James Stewart when he tells him, that HE shot Liberty Valance, and he did'nt do it for him, he did it for Hallie..... His life has fallen apart. He has lost Hallie, has killed for her, yet knowing that even though he did this thing which he knows is not right, but done for the right reason, will cost him dearly, he has lost his most precious thing "self respect". But he wants Rance to know that he must make something of himself " for Hallies sake".Tom has realized that Ranse can give her everything he could'nt. As Tom says " you taught her how to read and write, now give her something to read and write about".... AN Underrated CLASSIC FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Searchers (1956)

The best damn western ever!!!!!
27 September 2002
This epic slice of life on the harsh realities of life on the american frontier, where your everday hazards were the inhabitants or the land you were trying to live on. Shows us that we are all indeed Searchers. This movie draws the viewer into every role. You see the action from the viewpoints of every character..And whatever demons "ETHAN" subjects himself to,and thusly must confront,we all must look inwardly and fervently hope that we never lose our HUMANITY in spite of whatever odds we face.. Should be rated one of the top 5 films in movie history, and certainly the best damn Western ever made....
