Spider-Man (2002)
mediocre
Basically if you poor enough money into a story as interesting as spider-man it should be watchable. well it is, but not much more than that.
I tried to avoid this movie seeing how it was big budgeted and the commericals look like it was soaked with cgi. Well i caved in rented it after seeing the part with uncle ben talking to peter in wallmart(aka hell). Was it as bad as i thought it would be? no. Was it good?no.
i'll admiit that im a bit of a reformed comicbook geek but, it wasn't the descrepency's with the comics that bothered me (with the one exception that peter stands his own with the tough guy at school, peter was still a loser in school. And would always think to himself "if only they knew i was spiderman). It was the fact that is was poorly developed. One minute thay move to the city, the next he has a spider-man costume, aunt may cry's after her husbend dies for two seconds. does peter cry at all?
The ending is too blatent as well.
also. the green goblin is a p*** poor villian. if you'd like to see a good comic book movie watch tim burton's batman movies or the the first superman. Marvel's big budget x-men is equally as bad, and i have my doubts that good comic book will come out for some time.
I know these movies are suposed to be for kids but if they took a little more effort they could be enjoyed by adults too.
lord of the rings, both harry potter movies, and star wars ep 2 have all been on the top 250. none of these movies are really horrible but none of them have anything special about them. HEll the effects of these 50million plus movies arent even good. when you see computer graphics you think "wow thats great" although you can tell it was obviously done with a computer and sticks out from everything else thats going on. Put more people in rubber suits, when thats done right it can look real.
Smashing Pumpkins: Vieuphoria (1994)
As far as band videos go, this is one of the better ones
Rocking good. Obviously for pumpkin fans only.
Songs from performances all over the world. Mainly Siamese Dream but there are a couple gish. Each band member has there own clip, the group gets some psychiatry, and billy tells the history of the band. As well as A quick interview with the band in the studio recording SD, and a view other short things like talking to the tshirt vendors at their shows.
Plus you get some unreleased tunes such as james iha's techno masterpiece "bugg superstar" with accompanying footage of him and his dog.
If your a fan of there siamese dream era you should enjoy this. Back before they became parodies of themselves with mellon collie although there are hints in this video, there wasnt in the music.I find some of the versions here better than the originals. Such as mayonaise, silverf*ck, i am one, soma
Donnie Darko (2001)
funky
I really quite enjoyed this. Ive never scene a movie that didnt try to fit into a genre like this before. theres elemenst of fantasy, sci-fi, horror, comedy, drama, satire, hell simply because the tears for fear song and cover were placed so well I'll points for a musical! One might think it would turn out to be a mess, but it pulls it off.
Flawed? Well there were some. The bully's, for example. Or the amount of time on drew barrymores character.
I heard some people complain about the poorly represted wormholes, but this is a fantasy and it would have slowed down the movie as well as lessen that fantasy element to further go into the techniqualitys.
My only complaint is that where there is some level of interpretation to it i think that the director should have left it to the viewer. I liked the movie enough to sit through the director's commentary track. Kubrick wouldnt talk about 2001, and you dont see lynch explaining his movies. Oh well, next time i'll just avoid the commentary. Anyway, i guess its his choice.
great movie
The Elephant Man (1980)
A great movie experience
This is a very sad, uplifting movie. At points it makes you ashamed to be a human in seeing how we treat each other but in the end leaves you with a good feeling through watching the friendship between Doctor Treves and John (the elephant man).
In the beginning we see images of a woman, we hear screaming and an elephant. Then there is great anticipation as Dr Treves is on his way to see what appears to be the main attraction of the freak show as people leave that direction in horror. I couldn't wait to see what it looked like, it seems as though i was no different then the freakshow attendees.
When i saw him i was quite simply shocked. I'm not the only one, when the doctor sees him a tear rolls down his face. John can barely speak when the doctor takes him to the hospital, over the movie we see great growth and change in both the characters.
However, the change doesnt happen with everyone. Most people still dont see him for anything more than a freak, and there are those who still try to profit from him, and abuse him. Eventual John stands up for himself, probably for the first time in his life.
Later on we once again hear a screaming woman, etc. At this point i was wondering why it showed it. This just goes to show that over the course of the movie you get to know John and you completely realize that its not what he looks like, its who he is.
This is one of my favorite movies because it looked spectacular. It told a very nice, and moving story. And it had some of my favorite scenes (when John breaks down crying and explains that it was the first time an attractive women was nice to him, and when he calls the doctor his friend).
All in all, john is the ultimate example of someone who has been picked on. You really feel changed after seeing what he had been through, and how we treat people who may appear different.
