Matador (1978)
The story of a pioneer.
Matador is probably the most successful danish TV-series. It is written by Lise Nørrgård og Erik Balling (Erik Balling is a part of the two-man team behind Olsen Banden). The story is going on under the second world war. One of the main characters of Matador is Mads Skjern. In the first screenplay his real name is Mads Larsen, but takes the name of the city where he grew up (Skjern is in the nortwest of Jutland). He comes to the little city/village of Korsbæk. He wants to start up his own little clothing store. He tries to borrow money from Korsbæk Bank. The chairman of the board in Korsbæk Bank is Christian Varness, a high respected citizen of Korsbæk. He refuses him to lend any money. In rage Mads Skjern leaves the bank and goes to the local pub. There he meets Pigsdealer Larsen (Played by Buster Larsen). Larsen is a good man and take Mads Skjern and his son, Daniel, home to his wife, Katrine. There he meets the couples grown-up daughter, Ellen, who has a girl of the same ags as Daniel from a former marriage. Mads and Ellen fall in love with each other. With the little money Mads has and with money from Larsen they buy a house and a little closed down store. Skjern starts his own bussiness and the rest of the epsiodes is about how he prospers in Korsbæk and become more accepted and more respected than Varness, the man in the bank.
The show is about if you work hard and don't give up, you can come far. If you are stubborn enough it will pay off in the end!
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Brilliant movie.
The movie has its own spirit. The realistic rude behavior every actor pulls in the films makes the movie complete.
Warning! Warning! This may destroy some of the experience if you haven´t seen the movie yet. If you already have seen it, check this out!
The briefcase Vincent and Jules are going to pick up over at Brad´s place. You know there with the Big Kahuna Burger. The briefcase has a code lock. The code is 666. I don´t know if Tarantino is christian or satanist, but take it as a symbol. Every time somebody sees the content of the briefcase they go, wow! Their eyes are glowing with greed. It´s the temptation. Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) is the devil. Trying to buy Butch Cooligde´s (Bruce Willis) soul or just trying to get him to take a dive in the fight. Jules Winfield (Samuel L. Jackson) is the good man. Sees the shoot-up mistake in Brads place as "divine influence". Switch some of the letters in Jules and you get "Jesul", close to another name. Vincent Vega (John Travolta) is the bad man. He denies that there is such power controlling the universe in the ways Jules thinks. Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) is just another human satan uses to tease Vega. Mr. Wolf (Harvey Keitel) is the demon that frightens the good man. Do you see the posibility, as Jules, or is it just coincedences, as a true Vincent? Now see the movie again and think of the posibility and make up your point with the movie!
Reptilicus (1961)
Godzilla goes crazy in Copenhagen
The danish Godzilla escapes from a laboratory and goes crazy in Copenhagen! It´s a funny blend of bad acting and awful effects. The movie is old and the effects were not as good as they are today, but it could have been made better.
The words I remember best from the movie is: The beast flies! or in danish: Uhyret flyver!
This is why there are so few danish monsterfilms...
Dr. No (1962)
The real Bond
The first of, so far, 19 movies. Five actors, Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan, have played Ian Flemmings bestseller novel character James Bond. But I still believe that Sean Connery is the best of them all. He is the one with the best Bond attitude. He is the right. I have even read that in the first novels Ian Flemming have expressed that Bonds favorite actor was/is Sean Connery.
The movie was a revolution. It wasn´t the plan first to make a sequel and absolutely not 18.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
A masterpiece of Danny Elfman and Tim Burton.
The Nightmare before Christmas is a story about the world of hollidays. Especially that of Halloween and Christmas. It´s about how Jack Skellington, or the Pumpkin King, is restless and tired of scaring people. He finds a wonderful world with snow and a huge lobster-red man, that goes by the name of Sandy Claws.
The story, by Tim Burton, is a little to predictable, but rather entertaining. The music by Danny Elfman is genious. The tone of the song is so capturing. It´s maybe a little too overwhelming, but then it also helps on the not-so genious history.
Please don´t burn me on the cross, papa!
Apt Pupil (1998)
The apt pupil
I saw the movie on TV just yesterday. I was thrilled. A both amazing and terrible story of a boy who discovers a secret. A man in the neighborhood is an old nazi war criminal. He finds evidence that old Mr. Denker is Kurt Dussander, who led the KZ camp of Patin. He blackmails him. He must tell him everything about the war. What happened in Patin... In all those years Dussander have feared that the man hunters from Mossad would find him. Dussander did very terrible things during the war. But he seems as a normal old man. But in the end the kid actually learns something from him.
