Not just Hype
18 July 2008
Wow, what can I say about The Dark Knight? Well, let's start with the bad, there are 2 annoying things in this movie, the first is Christian Bale's voice sometimes as Batman, he seems to lose his breath and it's hard to understand him. The other annoying thing is the dramatic "soap opera"-like music when something emotional is happening. But hey, it is still a Hollywood movie.

That being said, this film is the reason why people should pay $12 to see it. It delivered everything it promised! Christopher Nolan has yet to let me down and his depiction of all these characters helped us understand why they do things that they do.

Heath Ledger is amazing! Absolutely amazing! It's been a long time since I have been able to see an actor completely become his character in a way that it is difficult to imagine what he really sounded and looked like outside of the character. Watch it! You will not be let down!

underrated
7 February 2007
I remember really enjoying this telenovela when it came out back in 1992. Of course, I was 12 so I really would like to see my take on it now that I'm older.

The story goes: There is a young and very innocent woman named Sara, played by Daniela Castro that is seduced by conniving man named David, played by Cantú. She eventually becomes pregnant and finds herself in a difficult situation trying to figure out how to raise her child alone. She finds comfort in David's brother Ivan, played by Palomo. After David find's out that she had a child he wants to be back in her life but the time spent between Ivan and Sara has lead to a romantic involvement and so begins a treacherous love triangle.

beautiful and sensual
6 June 2002
There are many viewers that will disregard this film from the start due to the graphic nature of some of the scenes, which is sad, really. Hopefully, most will be able to look past that and see the beauty of the cinematography and the subtly of the acting and truly appreciate this film for what it is, a true work of art. Granted, there isn't very much dialogue and most of the story is left to the viewer to decipher, but it is still worth a watch. Vincent Gallo is mesmerizing in this film. There is no other actor that could play this part as subtlety and conveying as he has. And as for the carnivorous nature of these characters, lets face it, which one of us has ever been in the presence of the one we love (or lust after) and feel that nothing you do can quench the feeling you have for them?

top 5 on my list...
19 December 2001
Love? Money? Health? Friendship? What are the most important things in your life? This film will test them all. Did Cesar really love Sofia or was she just the girl that got away? Is that why he felt he "loved" her? When you have money and power, how much do you really value friendship? Is health even an issue when you're perfectly healthy? This film keeps your interest throughout even when the story seems a little chaotic. It's wrapped up at the end in a way that doesn't insult your intelligence, unlike "Vanilla Sky". You're guaranteed to have Abre los Ojos on your mind days after you've watched it. If you've seen Vanilla Sky watch Abre los Ojos and decide which you like best. If you haven't seen either, you should watch both and compare.

Complete disappointment...
15 December 2001
Warning: Spoilers
POSSIBLE SPOILER...Maybe my comment is a little unfair being that "Abre los Ojos" is one of my favorite films, but here it is. I never knew how annoying Tom Cruise could be until I watched Vanilla Sky. The title was completely ridiculous. They spent too much time on things that were not important to the story, especially in the beginning. It seemed as though it was redone for a stupid audience that wouldn't be able to figure out what was going on at the end unless there was huge clues throughout the film. The love story was overdone. Cameron Diaz as Sophia was not done the way it was intended but I think it was a problem in direction not acting. I really love Abre los Ojos and this movie was so long, boring and annoying (especially the soundtrack and Tom Cruise). It should have ended 30 min before it actually did. This is how Hollywood can convert a wonderful psychological-thriller into a boring and uninspired piece of crap.

Sexual Angst
5 December 2001
I had the unique opportunity to watch Trouble Every Day during it's 1 week screening in Hollywood. The main reason I chose to see this film was Vincent Gallo. He's an amazing actor, director, composer, artist, the list goes on. Once again, he was wonderful as Shane, a sexually frustrated newly wed with a bloodthirst.

I've read many user comments stating that the film was dull and extremely grotesque. I personally disagree. The characters were interesting enough to keep you wanting to know more. There wasn't a resolution to the film ,but why do audience members always feel like they need everything handed to them in a neat package? Personally, I enjoyed the fact that days after I watched the film I was still analyzing it. As for whether it was extremely grotesque, let's just say that if it were rated by the MPAA, I don't think it would receive an R rating. For those of you not easily disturbed by films about the macabre it's worth watching. I feel that these scenes fit into the storyline and completed the film. It was beautifully filmed and the soundtrack set the mood wonderfully. I hope you people reading these comments choose to watch the film and decide for yourselves whether it was good or not.

WOW!!!

This movie is amazing!! I am so proud of the Mexican film industry right now. For years they were producing worthless and forgettable films, but now things are really changing. This film is proof of that. There are wonderful actors and filmmakers in Mexico as there are in many places, it's nice for it to be proven to the world.

I love this movie!! I'll admit, the first time i watched it it seemed a little chaotic. the thing is that the more you watch velvet the more you realize everything has a purpose and it is truly poetic. there are so many wonderful quotes in this film!! Ewan is amazing, he doesn't seem like he's acting!! He really is Curt Wild. Jonathan is beautiful and mystical. He really does a great job. Toni Collette and Christian Bale are great. Eddie Izzard is fabulous!! Not to mention that bonus, PLACEBO!!! anyway, it's a bonus for me. I love the music!!
