Drivel - It's annoyingly dreadful
5 February 2024
This review is for series one I thought it might be worth a try after all the announcements for series 2.

Unfortunately, it really is frighteningly bad. The acting is mediocre, the directing is poor, and to call the script pathetic would be a compliment.

How a writer can produce a script with so many holes in is beyond me. I thoroughly enjoy a good drama, and I thoroughly enjoy a good action movie. It's often necessary to suspend belief for an action movie but it shouldn't be so much for a drama.

I was going to give up after the first episode but it's only fair for a new series (well it was in 2022!) to give it a chance to settle. I wish I had stayed at stopping after the first episode.

Review Padding Galore to bump up the rating.....!
4 May 2022
IMDB need to look at this one! Multiple reviews on 23rd saying similar things and rating it 8* one after the other after the other..... although that is a downgrade from the multiple 10* ratings on the 22nd April, one after the other after the other......🤔

Was intending to watch but won't bother now 😀😉

Rated 1 star to balance things out a bit 😀🤣

Good- then not so good
13 April 2022
It's what you could describe as a quality program- but sometimes just too boring to watch! I generally like slow burners, but Series 3 for me was a step to far. Admittedly I gave up fairly early on, so others might enjoy it more 😀.

Different, Dark, Gripping, Excellent
2 February 2022
The heading says most of it!

It's not your normal cop show. The story is dark - but does have numerous splashes of humour. The acting and the characters are very good. There is poetic license used as far as police procedures are concerned but nothing compared to the inanities of some other series.

I found it gripping from the beginning and, while some complain about the ending, I felt even that was good. I don't need another series to wrap it up. Unlike so many shows, it leaves you with something to think about. That said, I certainly wouldn't complain if there was another series.

Definitely one to watch and, while it won't appeal to everyone, anyone who gives it one star simply because they don't like the accent really deserves a frontal lobotomy!

Excellent TV.

Boring.... (Series 3)
22 January 2022
Enjoyed Series 1 and 2. I won't be continuing with Series 3. I see some think it's brilliant and an improvement on 1&2 but for me it's just boring. Judging by some of the other ratings it seems I'm not alone! Perhaps I've been spoiled by some of the really good foreign programmes we've watched during lockdowns....:)

Certainly a slow burner....!
27 December 2021
I'm very happy watching a slow burner - but I don't rate this one. It's glacially slow from start to finish and doesn't flow either. Some say the acting is terrible. I disagree, but it's certainly wooden, and I think down to the director. The murder takes second place to the individual personal stories - too much so.

Overall, generally dull, and very forgettable!

Poor - Hitchcock it isn't!

I read the 1 Star reviews and I read the 10 star reviews. Thought let's watch and see for ourselves. After 15 minutes we thought it's not going to be great - and it wasn't! Watched it through and wish we hadn't 😀.

Satisfyingly Different
10 December 2021
Slow burning, good acting, good twists - a worthwhile watch. Guessed the ending (well partly!) about 20 mins before the end which unusually made it more satisfying 😀. Ignore any 1 star reviews - that's plain silly....

Agatha Christie comes to Town....badly
28 October 2021
I can't be bothered to write a full review- as the writer couldn't be bothered to write an Endeavour story.....

I have so loved Morse, Lewis, and Endeavour, but this was total dross.....

Regrettably the series has completely lost it's way.....so disappointed.

Downhill to the bottom .....
14 October 2021
I've watched from the first series and did find it thoroughly enjoyable. Fairly lightweight with a good cast of characters and a nice 1950s feel to it. I had it rated 7 out of 10.

Just getting to the end of series 6 and it has completely lost its way. Just a soap opera with very poor plot lines for the crimes and over emphasis on certain aspects designed to fit the TV mould of today.......

I very much doubt I will watch series 7.

Boring...
2 August 2021
Admittedly we only watched the first 2 episodes and couldn't face any more, so maybe it improves. The computer stuff is total rubbish but that's not a disaster in itself. Clearly it appeals to quite a few with the 8/9 star ratings, but it really doesn't make the grade.

Stunning. Compelling viewing, beautifully acted, thought provoking,
7 June 2021
No spoiler to say it's more about the prison system than one individual. Others will know more about it than me (as I've never served time!) but I found it a drama of the highest order. I hardly ever rate anything 10, but there has to be the odd exception. The writing and acting are all top notch. It's one of those programs that will stick in the mind for a while - unlike so many formulaic dramas or stories that we see nowadays.

Excellent Series - Assuming you're not a moron :)
29 March 2021
I can understand that this won't appeal to everyone - nothing can ever appeal to everyone! However, anyone who can rate it less than a 5/6 needs either their head or their prejudices examined. All the series have been extremely watchable and very well acted. We've just finished Season 4 and rate it the best of the lot.

Series 1 Good, Series 2 Not!
20 February 2021
So, series 1 is very watchable. Not stellar, but good characters, dramatic scenery, just about believable. I rated it an 8. For series 2 people have complained about the far right, the gays, and the muslim angle being in it. For me that was gratuitous and unnecessary but it wasn't a complete disaster. What definitely ruined it for series 2 was the completely unbelievable and incompetent police - who seemed to have lost all their brain cells since series 1. Turning characters into something that they weren't before, just to satisfy a contrived plot, was unforgivable. Rating it a 4 seems about right. I was glad when it finished...

Serpico it ain't!
6 February 2021
So someone described it as a modern day Serpico, and just maybe it is for some - but definitely not for me! So if you're of a certain age, a fan of Denzel Washington, and loved films like The Pelican Brief and The Equaliser, you will likely find this boring and thoroughly unsatisfying. However, if you liked Pulp Fiction, it could be right up your street :)

We watched it as a mild binge - 2 episodes a night. A remarkable (and unpleasant) story but very absorbing - and you soon get used to the jumping backwards and forwards in time! Recommended.

Series 1 - Good but not exceptional!
10 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Enjoy, but don't expect a masterpiece. Catching up on old box sets with the Covid lockdown and so reading all the the 9/10 star reviews it sounds a winner! After the first couple of episodes we were hooked and thoroughly enjoying it. It is a very watchable and absorbing series with lots of good acting and detailed characters. However, as others have said years ago, it's good but certainly not great. As the series progressed we got progressively more irked by the inconsistency, and by the time we got to the end we were somewhat disappointed. That was down to the police portrayal - which was sadly just grossly incompetent or plain unrealistic depending on how you want to view it. By the time they arrested Lund, when a simple residue test would have immediately shown she wasn't responsible, it was annoying- especially as they used residue a short while later to say who had done the shooting! Lund herself was portrayed as clever and insightful one moment and clearly useless the next! All that said, we're glad we watched it and will likely watch series 2 - but with lower expectations :)

Well worth a Watch - from a confirmed Whodunnit fan :)
26 December 2020
I've enjoyed a good whodunnit since the days of Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple. Over the years, various versions of Marple, Poirot, Holmes, etc have been a bit of a mishmash. Some very good, some acceptable, and some that really gall. I was dubious about this one - Modern, Daniel Craig as a PI (!), and likely some moronic script with either gaping holes in the plot or an obvious murderer in 5 minutes. Well, I give it big thumbs up! It's a good plot, a good bunch of characters, and the story flows well. It really is a good modern take on the genre. I think for those that like the Agatha Christie screen versions (I never liked the books) you will enjoy it - it's refreshingly very good. For those that don't like the Agatha Christie I think you will like it because it has extra humour and feels modern. Get past Daniel Craigs accent and enjoy :)

Excellent Series - 100% Recommended
20 December 2020
For those that don't understand the language, are unable to concentrate, and can't cope with subtitles - don't bother. For those that enjoy interesting characters, good acting, and great stories - it's a feast of enjoyable TV. Stands out as so different to the 'standard' fayre and is so much better for it.

Enjoyable - Anyone giving 1 star is an idiot :)
17 November 2020
OK, so as far as violence is concerned it's a bit of a slow burner and when the violence comes it doesn't compare with some, but it's well worth watching. It's got a story, it's got characters, so enjoy it as a good movie and ignore the people that only seem to manage to rate something either 10/10 - or 1/10 !!

Well Worth Watching!
26 October 2020
So it's not in the top league of crime dramas - the plots aren't quite good enough for that. However, the characters are great, there's plenty of suspense, and it's thoroughly enjoyable!

Shoot em Up Video Game....
23 October 2020
If you like shoot em up video games you will like it. Just assume no character development, put any form of reality aside, and try and count the bodies! Definitely some funny bits in it - love the cleaners! Overall though, it's extremely forgettable. For instance, I watched The Equalizer for a second time the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it again. This one I won't bother with.....

Regrettably it's drivel!
12 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So the first series pretty good. This start to the second, with a different writer, is complete rubbish. Series 1 wasn't exactly believable but it was enjoyable. The police operation at the beginning of this is soooooo full of holes and so unbelievable it's farcical. Having caught a murderer within the first 10 minutes or so it's obvious that won't be it - or it wouldn't have the rest of the episode and next to go. So, who's the "real" murderer? Well with that being obvious in the first 15 minutes as well it wasn't worth watching the continuing dreadful script. How other reviewers could compare this series to Morse is beyond me...

Very poor episode! (1&2)

Warning: Spoilers
I like Silent Witness but this one didn't grip and stretched credulity too far. The story didn't flow, the police procedures were grossly inconsistent, amd the threat to the Lyle centre was a load of dross.
