The Highest Honor (1982 TV Movie)

best film I've EVER seen!!
2 August 2002
I was overtaken by the emotion. Unforgettable rendering of a wartime story which is unknown to most people. The performances were faultless and outstanding.

chilling portrayal of viciousness
23 February 2001
This film touched me. Needless to say the depth of it's depravity is shocking and harrowing but, at the same time, honest and brutal to the max. Alas, there are few films that tackle the subject of emotional vulnerability so truthfully and even fewer films that do so with such force. I say "vulnerability" because i believe these two characters - George and Martha - are wounded souls that have come to live in an unreal world because of their propensity to explore the outer boundaries of human emotional experience. Score 10 out of 10 for Liz's performance and 9/10 for all three other actors. I want to say something like "a truly wonderful film" but really, it sure aint for everybody. See it if you want a mind fu**ing trip into the decaying marriage you never want to have.

calm and gentle realisation

for how long did man stare at and contemplate the moon? for how long has man stared at and contemplated the universe? for how long have we pondered the "meaning of life"?? this film IS a masterpiece in all it's dimensions. it asks more questions than it answers and that is true art, in any medium. kubrick tackled many diverse subjects in his long and colourful career but none so controversial or profound as this - the treatment is superb, the length appropriate and the subject matter astounding. my partner saw it today...her response?? " I dont get it. it's two hours too long!!" there you go - human diversity, where would we be without it? where indeed ??

Yolngu Boy (2001)
7/10
excellent plot, acting and scenery.

Warning: Spoilers
having been to the world premiere of this film in darwin last night i would like to give you all an idea about it. made by local film-maker Stephen Johnson, "Yolngu Boy" (pronounced "YOLNOO") is a fantastic effort by a first-time feature maker who struggled to get this made for 10 years. It showcases the top-ends' beautiful and haunting scenery very well and will do much to inspire others up here in Darwin and the Northern Territory. The story is the best aboriginal content film i have seen and the three young men starring are excellent even though none have acted before, actually i think that is a huge plus. the one criticism i have is the camera work which (particularly in the first half of the film) has way too much movement and is unnecessarily used when filming less than action. it made me feel a bit seasick. When used appropriately, and it certainly was at some times, it is a great effect....but not ALL the time. the helicopter shots of the coast of Arnhem Land are nothing short of spectacular and the truth of the lives of these young aboriginal boys struggling between the old world and the new is touching and inspiring. First rate effort. Support Aussie films AND do yourselves a favour all over the world by seeing this film....you will enjoy and learn.

this is one of the worst!
24 January 2001
yes, the costumes are spectacular but that was the only pleasing thing, for me, about this complicated, messy, undisciplined film. Students should see it to learn what NOT to do!unmitigated, self-indulgent crap from a director that should have known better. Unconvincing, laughable and embarrassingly childish, this movie will appeal to those who take "The Addams Family" seriously.
