Hold the Dark (2018)
2/10
Dark, grim, sad and pointless.
1 December 2022
Beautifully film, the story starts it path with plenty of intrigue and suspense. Sadly however, it's as if the author, or perhaps screen writer, forgot the story line, including the ending. What might have been a good movie drifts of course until everybody in Alaska is mysterious, sullen, angry, and literally crazy. There's plenty of killing to go around, but not much of anything has to do with wolves, though there are a couple of scenes in the movie that have wolves in them. In the end, nothing is resolved, lots of people have died senselessly, and the wolves are going about their business, I guess. If that sounds good to you, make some popcorn and enjoy. I say skip it. You can do better.

A Stinker
26 April 2022
Generally, I am a Bruce Willis fan, at least when it comes to action thrillers. I don't know how/why, but this might just be his worst. I gave up after about 40 minutes. I won't belabor the all the bad stuff. Suffice to say, somebody was counting more on the Willis reputation that writing, direction, acting, et al. Skip this one and watch Sixth Sense again.

Samo Samo Disney
2 June 2017
I wasn't too impressed with this routine but flashy Disney formula film. Yes, it was colorful, noisy, even cute at times. It's the kind of movie I loved when I was, say 9 years old. It fits all the criteria for family adventure, though. Nobody is going to be offended, but don't expect anything new and innovative either. I felt Kurt Russell was somewhat unconvincing as the bad guy, and except for the aliens, everybody is young and beautiful. So, take the kids, buy some popcorn, and make the most of family time together.

an underachiever

I was disappointed. This movie left me thinking one thing at the end. How could an alien civilization travel from anywhere in space and be too dumb to be able to cope with the likes of a baseball bat an a glass of water. Mel Gibson is believeable as the concerned dad and grieving husband, but with such a silly premiss, who cares. There is much better sci-fi out there, old and new.

Without Question, Fun Entertainment
5 March 2001
Roger Ebert may have found that the Coen Bros. were mixing there periods, but this in no way get in the way of the fun. Color, humorous, and even musical, this movie is suitable for most family members. I was ready to see it again before I left the theater.

Thrilling Action Adventure with a Moral
27 October 2000
With almost no dialogue, this is an entertaining and believable story of morality and survival. The story is easy to follow even without words, as the African scenery and the emotions of the characters tell it all. Though the ending is fairly predictable, it's the getting there thats all the fun. A great film for avid adventure fans.

One of the top Sci-Fi movies ever made.
27 October 2000
The cast, story, and directing all combine to make this one of the best all time science fiction movies ever made. Seamless entertainment and a hold-your-breath climax will keep you on the edge of you seat until the last moment. A benevolent space man comes to earth to deliver the message,"learn to live together or else..." What can the consequences possibly be? This is a must-see and is suitable for all ages. Don't forget what to say to prevent the annihilation of earth.
