A freak show on the high seas
20 October 2003
Based on a true story this movie wasn't convincing at all: so many risks were taken by so many different and hopeless seafarers...

My father-in-law is a fisherman and he won't take such risks just for the honor, money or whatsoever - and he's not a coward to rough seas but a real fine seafarer.

"The Perfect Storm" aims more a freak show on the high seas but a documentation-drama.

Avoid this movie.

The Lake (1999)
Not a crime story as we know it - like it or hate it
10 May 2002
A different story.

From the very beginning You'll get the answer to the murder plot, but the revealing of the motives, the coherences and the scenes might thrill you.

Lisa's father seems to crawl back to life to fulfil his revenge. Also Lisa finds herself acting like her father and then felt being catapulted to her childhood, next embraced by her pre-adultness - feeling comfortable and like a strange at the same time.

The murderers are trying to cover each other and to hide their deed, yet the dead ones will not rest until buried in holy earth ...

Sjön is not a crime story as you know it, maybe it isn't at all. Maybe it's a hell-of-a-story, literally, and you will find yourself liking or hating it.

I like it, even the plot isn't a plot as we know it and all in all the whole thing isn't a haunted house tale, a tale of revenge and love or a ghost story.

But after watching it, I had dulled feelings and strange thoughts spinning through my head - and that happens only when a movie touches me.

Unlikely Angel (1996 TV Movie)
A real yawn
29 December 2001
Yawn... an amazing silly story and questionable actors.

It's a real cheap plot and sort of a lousy christmas story - You will burst into tears about any money spend on this flick.

Please don't waste Your time with such a movie.

Event Horizon (1997)
Watch this movie around midnight and enjoy the thrills
24 November 2001
(I have watched the german and the english version of Event Horizon.)

This movie is incredible and gave my thrills like no other movie before.

In style it's more like "Haunted House to the Stars" - but the whole concept fits perfectly (the movie has some errors, though, but I remember some cult movies [Blade Runner, I like Icarus, etc.] with errors - so I leave these fauxes behind).

The story and characters are well build, placed in the matching environment and developing the scary mood of this motion picture. The ever so unlikely space ships "Lewis and Clark" and the "Event Horizon" providing the different sets, one comfortable and cozy, the other harsh and dark. In fact the abandoned "Event Horizon" design shows church elements and don't deny it's inquistive destiny...

If you like scary movies with a science fiction touch watch this movie around midnight alone in a deserted room, better house. Enjoy your thrills.

Better "switch" to books
17 November 2001
A nice, little fairytale - but You get more if You read fairytales to the children.

Yes, You can laugh with Your kids on that leprechaun, You can enjoy the special effects, listen to that funny tunes... but better You "switch" to a fairytale book and let the childrens imagination run wild than Your TV set.

And then You will teach them the morals better.

Enjoyable, but not superb
17 November 2001
A straight thriller, yes - but lacks of some forgotten story threads and some mysterious re-appearences.

(I will not spoil anything here, but take the final car accident or the stairs accident. Some threads mystically forgotten or without further notice accepted by the main actors, some threads re-appeared without further asking - it just happened.)

Also some characters are in desperate need of their not established credibility - honestly: that covers the most actors except the main ones. And they are in need of some more credibility, too.

It's not that I don't like this movie - but it could be better done.

I would prefer three-dimensional characters on one side, minor ones on the other; cut of some useless time stretching shooting here, and add of some story-development scenes there.

All in all: enjoyable, but not superb.

Well endowed women working it out - that´s all
9 March 2000
3 busty (the eye-catcher) ladies fighting (not literally, yet bouncing) the evil Dr. Sin Do (yes, that´s the name - he does sin).

Anything interesting? Sorry, no.

If You like well endowed women working it out and also save the world by hunting down some evil men, this is the movie for You.

Otherwise: don´t watch it, because a worst plot featuring silly characters acting in strange scenes won´t entertain You at all.

... but a cool kabuki of a hell of a story and scenes
19 February 2000
I really enjoyed this movie.

No, it doesn´t help You in any questions concerning how to run Your life, You can´t draw any real sense off it and of cause You must not see this movie.

But if You leave all that behind and want a real entertaining space opera, give it a try.

I was sceptical at first... ... but it blew my mind. 5th element handles it´s story easy as You slice cheese - it´s simply run through it.

It´s joyful, cheerish, ironically, entertaining. But also a bit romantic, uneven, playful futuristic and emotional.

In the end You have to decide for yourself: if You don´t expect a meaningful and serious movie but a cool kabuki of a hell of a story and scenes You must see it.

To the Limit (1995)
There isn´t anything in it
11 February 2000
This is a movie without meaning.

To The Limit is a poor production: no plot, no budget and no real acting. So the makers provided an eye-catcher - rubenesque actress Anna Nicole Smith.

And that´s it. If You like to waste your time watching:

  • closeups of the best parts of Anna Nicole Smith

  • totals of rubensque parts of her

  • a movie without meaning nor sense

  • lousy characters

  • useless dialogues

  • same for the action (if ever)

this is the movie for You.

Otherwise don´t watch it. Don´t even think about it.

Because there isn´t anything in it.

Horror before move, but then disappointed. Why?
9 November 1999
Funny how a hype works. The less information I had about this movie, the eager I was.

First I read the Dossier, second I listened to the CD, third I saw the movie.

I´m a little disappointed about the "kick" I had expected. It never come so boldly as the expectation due to the Dossier and the soundtrack.

To be honest: the horror of the movie didn´t get me - the horror of the thoughts BEFORE the move did it.

Pathfinder (1987)
10/10
A ancient story told in a way only the Norwegian could do
9 November 1999
(Preliminary remark: I saw this movie dubbed in german language)

This is a great piece of work: I like the story, actors, scapes, the whole movie. In my opinion it is not a typical "Big Cinema"-style movie: it is straight forwarded, fresh and clear.

The Pathfinder is a superious movie done with skill and heart for a ancient story told in a way only the Norwegian could do it. I enjoyed the time watching it.

It´s rich in view and sound, recites a hero story so straight, it´s unbelieveable. I wish more of this to come.

(Final remark: I hope sometime to view - experience - this movie in its original language.)
