sleeper worth seeing
24 May 2003
i don't laugh much. but I did watching this film. I laughed so hard I had to stop the film, and take advil. This movie is really just a silly fun film good for all ages. Seth Green and Vince V. are truly masters of the pratfall in this film, and cuba gooding is GREAT. Rowan is a fine italian narcoleptic! rent it! buy it!

technical good, acting bad
9 February 2003
okay.

no one expects horror movies to have great acting, so I do not understand why so many people are dissappointed in this film.

the use of Surround sound and the noise of the evil creature FREAKED OUT the audience.

it was just like going to a mid sized amusement park roller coaster. nothing unexpected, but some nice thrills.

this movie is a 6 because it is better than average. But goto the matinee, it is not worth full price.

this film should have a warning label
31 January 2003
I was only 17. I was expecting a John Hughes film. if this had been an "indie" movie it would have done better, but the movie was Advertised to america like a regular (ie. happy) movie. it does have some spotty acting, slow parts, etc. but the big problem is the only thing I got from the movie (no pleasure, no pay off, no catharsis was):

Jimmy has no heart of gold, he is dross. and the film is good at depicting the story of a man who realizes he will be a cheatin', no good jerk like his father, and that he really does not care. he seems at one with his shallowness. I don't think most teens could accept the idea that they are not good, not bad, just blah with such grace. a real human would not just shrug and accept his loserness..when he seemed to have a glimmer of more. It takes longer for life to beat you down at that.

I walked out of the movie theater at the age of 17 thinking "THIS SUCKED compared to FERRIS BUELLER" and I was right. 15 years later, I am still right.

Bones (2001)

there is meat to this bone
4 July 2002
I heard this movie sucked. It did not. It is not great film, but it is good film. The homage to the 1970s was there, the little "film buff" touches that remind one of urban horror's roots as far back as nosferatu.

this movie could easily have been a sell out, with Bones as "Snoop da CROW"

with the vengeance thing, but it did not.

the only "bad horror" gimmick was the last 4 seconds of the film.

I expected a crappy horror movie. This beats urban legend or scream 3.

Gorefest, and not much else
27 March 2002
I am pro gore, or I would not have rented this movie. I applaud the marketers of this film, for the fact that it was available on DVD at my local video store means that someone made money off of this film. I do not know what full moon was thinking, but this has to be the dullest title ever associated with them. Not campy, not funny, not scary. The first DVD I have rented and felt I should have been PAID to watch.

One of the best thrillers of the year
16 April 2000
I waited until pay per view for this film. I wish I had seen it in

the theater. The plot is great, the people BELIEVABLE.

Seeing this movie made Kevin Bacon go up two notches in

my book. I will not give this away, but all I have to say it SEE

IT.

Great Elements ruined by special effects
12 February 2000
Once again, a dusk til dawn movie cannot make up it's mind on what it wants to be. At least the first D T D movie was half of a great tarantino crime movie melded to half a great vampire/special effect blitz.

The ambrose bierce/pancho villa/old mexico vibe was working great. A more muted, but still twisted and bloody ending would have worked better. But the gorefest/art movie mix did not work well for this film.

overall, a good film for horror junkies, but not much

Religious Thriller? Yep
14 September 1999
I went in expecting a horror movie. What I got was a hip, intense look at questions of faith and doubt, the origins of Christianity, and a little "free info" on Aramaic and other odd facts.

This film challenged to examine what is the nature of the original radical, that LJC guy (Jesus). Who was he? Did his followers drop the ball? As a skeptic/sometime believer, I found this film to kick ass as far as a "movie experience" and it left me stuff to think about as well...

A GREAT B Horror Flick
20 March 1999
No one should compare this to the original. They have nothing in common. Not even same genre. Different director, writer, editor.

This film is more a classic gore-action fest.

I enjoyed it. Alot. But I knew what to expect..which was not a sequel

*Of course* the acting is not as good at the first one. George Clooney, Cheech Marin, Juliette Lewis, Harvey Keitel, and Quentin are all STARS. luminaries. This film was Straight to VIDEO. of course it was not as "good".

It tries to be a "B" film. And it succeeds.

Good, but only matinee good
1 March 1999
This movie was nice. I laughed a little. You can live without seeing it, however. It was probably not worth 6 dollars..more like 3... Best parts...the period dress, Courtney Love..an annoying but good Gabby Hoffman; the Irish guy "it's just SEX!"

Critigue of something that could have been good
5 October 1998
Jugular Wine, despite the incoherent plot, actually could have been a good movie. "One man's quest into the madness and interplay of reality/fantasy that is the world of the vampire"

unfortunately, the movie moves along like a drunken sailor, making very little sense and with very heavy "documentary" overtones that make it seem even more ludicrous than if it had just been a schlock film with no pretensions. This is film that redefined "painful to watch"

I can't recommend it except to students of the vampire genre and film in general, and only then as a lesson on how not to do a vampire movie.

I really wish the makers of this film well..I am not saying I could make a better film. But I hope I could!
