Technology is a wonderful tool. It lets us communicate with friends and family at great distances without using our voices, it lets us spy on our neighbors without leaving the living room couch, and now it has written some Harry Potter.
The people over at Botnik Studios programmed a predictive keyboard with all seven Harry Potter books written by J.K. Rowling. From there they were able to craft this glorious chapter from the soon-to-be classic Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash.
Now, the exact method they did for selecting words, I’m not sure since it will load 18 options for you, so maybe they went 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. or maybe they just hit 1 over and over again. No matter what it is hilarious to read. You can play around with the predictive keyboard they used on two pages: one for narration and one for dialogue.

As a whole video games based on comic book franchises have met with more critical success than games based on cinematic franchises. Part of the reasoning behind this is that comic books have a natural affinity with the transition to gaming: bold characters, super powers that can empower the player, the rich environments, and story lines that can be drawn on. All these things can help bring exciting and fun gameplay experiences.
Comic book narratives are something I love; the integration between written narrative and illustrative depth has always fascinated me. Every time a video game based on a comic book franchise appears, I buy it. Sometimes I've been stung by that, but most times I have a satisfying and immersive gaming experience.
So here are a few of my favourite games in this genre.

If there’s one franchise that has crossed into the mainstream in the last decade, it’s The Sims. Sure, the likes of FIFA and Call of Duty are pretty much everywhere these days, but there are an awful lot of players outside of the folks who play those annually who would consider The Sims to be their one gaming vice. The various console ports have been hit and miss – generally due to the different attempts at trying to convert the mouse-based inputs to work with a controller – but this time around – as is always the case – there’s renewed hope that EA has managed to get it right.
That hope lasts for about 10 minutes after you boot The Sims 4 up. At first glance, it seems as if the Xbox One version falls foul of the issues which plagued the previous ports. Navigation is primarily handled with a cursor controlled by the analog sticks,...

We've been playing Destiny 2 quite a lot. And we've got a few thoughts...
As someone who invested over 50 days of his life in Destiny, I approached Destiny 2 with both excitement and trepidation. While I undoubtedly wanted to carry on my journey as a guardian, I was also slightly concerned about being dragged back into late night raid marathons and endless grinding.
Of course there was never any real doubt that I’d be jumping back into the fray, and since Bungie decided to stagger the launch based on local time zones, I found myself logging onto the servers at 12:00am on launch day and playing for far too long, given that I had to go to work the next morning!
The first thing that will hit any veteran Destiny player is a feeling of loss; loss of all that gear you spent the past three years grinding for.

We've been told that even though we don't see any real crossover between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Marvel TV Universe the entire universe is still all connected. Well, a fan of Reddit by the name of MrRLopez put together an interactive map and timeline that proves that it is all connected. The creator explained:
"I made an McU timeline since there are a lot of questions lately about when certain events happened in the movies: the car accident of Doctor Strange, how long Ellis has been President."
It's actually pretty fun to explore. You can play around with the interactive map below! You can also check out all the entries listed by category here.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” presented a brain-twisting production challenge for cinematographer Colin Watkinson and Reed Morano, an executive producer and director of the first three episodes. The show takes place in a near-future Gilead, where enslaved women forced to reproduce for the aristocracy wear costumes that reference a puritanical time — but the show isn’t a period piece. They needed to create a world that was “other” and could serve as sharp contrast to present-day flashbacks.
Morano and Watkinson explain how they achieved the show’s unique look.

Compositions
Watkinson: Reed had a very specific directorial look book with very clear indications of which way she wanted to go, and how we were going to separate the worlds with compositional and shooting style.
Morano: I didn’t want it feel like a period piece. That was my fear with the costumes and everything. I pushed very hard that all the uniforms in Gilead had modern elements to them. Period would defeat the purpose. There are women in the world who experience these things today, and this story is a warning it could happen here just like that. It needed to be and feel other.”
Watkinson: Gilead was going to be incredibly formal, tableau-like compositions with a very considered static camera, the camera only moved when it was deemed to moved. Tableau, Kubrick-esque type frame is what Reed asked for, but with off framing, lots of headroom, and sometime asymmetrical as well.
The flashbacks were to be what Reed called “cinema verite” — a very visceral type of camerawork, to really put you in the moment. We wanted the flashbacks to feel as real as possible. The reason being even though they are flashbacks in the story, you are looking at today in the world and we wanted people to feel,”That’s right now.” That’s what I think makes it more horrific as you go along. The world changes so quickly. You’ve got to look up from your phone because tthis could happen quickly and right in front of your face.
A Pov Show
Morano: The book calls for us to be in Lizzy’s [Elizabeth Moss, who plays Offred] head, which sometimes comes with voiceover. Trying to put yourself in someone’s head — how do you visualize that? One of the ways I always thought we’d visualize that was by putting the camera physically closer to her for her close-ups, be on a wider lens because it feels a little bit more uncomfortable and there’s something a little bit more unsettling about that. It makes the audience close the person in much more uncomfortable way.”
Read More: How ‘Stranger Things’ Created That Awesomely Retro Title Sequence
Watkinson: We adopted a particular lens for Offred because being a Pov-type show, we wanted to be inside Offred’s head and make the viewer feel like every nuance Elizabeth made we’d be capturing. They’d be close enough to feel every movement. We were shooting on Canon K-35s for most of the show, but we had a 28mm Zeiss 2.1 that had a perspective that was different on either side of it. It’s very particular. It was her special lens.
Morano’s Handheld
Morano: As a cinematographer myself, I knew to stay out of Colin’s way. I told him, “I’ll treat you better than you are use to being treated by other directors. There is one thing I do want, though.”
Watkinson: In our first interview she broached it right away. “I like to get the camera on my shoulder and operate.”
Morano: Most good operators know you don’t want to do some kind of change while an actor’s delivering lines, but it’s hard to not know what you can get away with if you aren’t the director. If you are directing and you are the one cutting it and telling the story, you can take more risks with the operating.

Watkinson: There’s a special process going on there. She has unique vision and style. She brings an immediacy and a real feeling with her camera. I tried to get a feel for how and when she’d want to go handheld to access those emotions, and tried to emulate because we’d need to try to copy that with other directors after Reed left.
Interior Depth
Watkinson: I was constantly impressed by [production designer] Julie Berghoff’s paint work. Not only did she have the color right, but the depth of the color she’d create on the walls was amazing. You’d walk up to walls and admire the depth — there was color on color, but all the same color. I really feel that you feel that. The backgrounds are little bit dark, there’s a fall-off to them, and the light catches them because there’s so much texture. It was such pleasure to light, because I want to feel that depth in darkness.
I stole a term that exists in the 3-D world: They call it “volumetric lighting.” I wanted layers in the light. I saw (Morano’s feature) “Meadowland,” so I knew Reed really liked atmosphere. I wanted textured light layers, to go with the layer’s of Julie’s background and the layers of the costumes.
I want you to feel the light coming from the outside, so it’s based in a reality, but it’s a hyperreality. I used Df-50 to put a lot of atmosphere in the air, with 10K mol beams that create a sharp line then fade away. You can play with how strong that beam of light is based on the angle. Then there’s options of using blinds and other things to play with to create more layers.
Exterior
Watkinson: We knew Gilead had this throwback element. We knew it had to have a certain softness to it to match that otherness. We were always going to use vintage lenses, testing to figure out which ones got us the exterior softness was crucial.
We wanted shallow and soft look for the exterior. The lenses we used were very fast. They were 1.3, 1.4 lens and we would play the daytime shots as wide open as we could to really drop the depth of field.

We were trying to do anything that put movement in the light. We let light hit the camera — were totally happy for veiling to happen, so the light could hit the lens. Flare was part of the look. Then we’d push color into the blacks and highlights in the grade. We had a power Dit on set, to give it that otherworldliness. We shot on three Arri Alexa Mini, which did a great job with our colors and was perfect for going handheld, but also was 4K, which Hulu demanded.

Tonight when Hap and Leonard returns to Sundance, you'll once again see James Purefoy affecting his East Texan accent in his East Texan wardrobe, playing Hap Collins, best friend (more of a brother, really) to Leonard Pine (Michael Kenneth Williams).
What kind of shenanigans do they find themselves in during Hap and Leonard Season 2? Let's just say things get very real very fast, and these near-brothers come very close to losing each other.
In a discussion that examines the unexpected relevance of Mucho Mojo and how entertainment can be a lens through the past or future what we're experiencing today, Mr. Purefoy engagingly supported his show, the social issues of modern society, the power of good authors and the benefit of fear.
TV Fanatic: So let's talk Hap and Leonard.
James Purefoy: Go on. Do you want to or are you being forced to? [laughs]
No! I'm not being forced at all.

With just over two weeks to go until Mass Effect: Andromeda is unleashed on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, excitement levels for BioWare’s sci-fi RPG are, unsurprisingly, reaching fever pitch, but if 15 days is just too long for you to wait, EA’s got you covered with an early access trial due to kick off next week, March 16. From that date, all EA and Origin Access members will have the opportunity to go hands-on with Andromeda over a 10-hour period, with both single and multiplayer elements available to put through their paces.
But if you were intending to approach the trial with a speed run in mind, think again – BioWare producer Fernando Melo has confirmed that story progression will be restricted to some degree. Melo provides no explanation for why the limitation has been put in place,...

There's plenty going on under the surface of a good game of Mario Kart. We're not defending Rainbow Road, though...
This article contains spoilers for The Prestige.
For people born in the mid-80s, Mario Kart is one of the key life skills it’s okay to be shite at, along with pool, Laser Quest, and Dance Dance Revolution. Mario Kart, though, is the one that’s stayed with us the longest.
You can play it at home more easily than the others. It’s sociable, pretty easy to pick up, relies less on button mashing than Super Smash Bros, and doesn’t make anyone picture a statue of Luke Goss made out of instant mashed potato. It’s been around since 1992, but unlike Push Pops it’s been a constant in our lives. Even if, like me, your major achievement was that one time you managed...

Have you heard about these board games they have now? They’re ace. A novice takes her first steps in tabletop gaming…
I owe a lot to board games. They were, after all, my main motivation in learning to read. The youngest of six, my siblings would take out their frustration at having to include me in games through the invention of spurious ‘rules’ the veracity of which their illiterate sister had no way to check. Frowningly constructing the jam sandwich each Monopoly loser must present to the winner (“that’s what it says here”) or shaking out the ritual 10p loser tax from my piggy bank (“blame Hasbro, they wrote it”) I smelt a rat but was powerless. One determined path through a set of Ladybird Learning To Read books later, and I knew I’d been had. The result: an ongoing sense of unspecified mistrust...

Matt Imhof was going through his normal post-game training regimen in June when the unthinkable happened.
The exercise band he was using snapped in his hand and sent a piece of metal flinging violently towards his face. The impact broke his nose and two orbital bones, and caused severe damage to his right eye.
Imhof, who was drafted to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2014, recalled the incident and its aftermath in a heartfelt essay for Espn.
“I saw a flash of silver and then felt the metal hook smash into my face. Everything went numb as I hit the ground screaming,...

Netflix has finally released an official, playable 8-bit video game for Stranger Things! You can play the game online for free! That's not all, though. They also have 8-bit games for three of their other series including Narcos, Marco Polo, and Orange is the New Black.
In the Stranger Things game, you play as Mike, and you try and outrun the monstrous Demogorgon, who spits balls of darkness at you. The only action you really have to do is jump over the obstacles. With Narcos, you play Pablo Escobar and escape from being captured in Columbia. You play Piper in the Orange in the New Black game and catch chickens while dodging cafeteria trays.
All the games are pretty much the same but with different settings and themes, and they’re pretty simple, but if you have some time to kill, then play it for a few minutes by clicking here!

When 2k first revealed WWE 2K17 back in May, there were no details confirmed about the game other than the fact that Goldberg would be available as a pre-order bonus. June came and they announced that a man who had only wrestled seven times in 2016 up to that point – Brock Lesnar – would be the cover star but still, there was no information about the actual game.
In July, we got a look at some roster reveals and downloadable content announcements, but yet again, gameplay information was nowhere to be seen. Alarm bells were ringing for sure by this point but finally, midway through August, the publisher decided to actually detail some of the things that fans could expect to see as they stepped into the digital squared circle in 2K’s fifth attempt at creating a must-have wrestling title.
Whether or not the reluctance to provide any information on the...

Taking on a 40-year-old movie as the inspiration for a television series comes with a lot of challenges, but Westworld should really be understood as simply “drawing from” the original, as opposed to attempting anything like remaking it.
We’re in an adult-oriented “theme park” that has guests meandering through a world populated by androids (Hosts) that are nearly indistinguishable from people, it’s a western world, and something is going wrong, but the similarities end there.
The park runs on a theory of open-world video games, populated entirely by side quests, as the Hosts run through their routines to present the possibility of pulling guests into whatever side story they may be connected to. As the show tells us, there are hundreds of stories going on at the same time, and they are all malleable enough to adjust to whatever a guest chooses to do with them. You can play through “normally,...

The CW's popular series, Arrow, started off with great promise. It was the story of one man's mission to protect his city. However, after following the stellar first season, it became clear that the producers had more comic book-like ambitions for the show. Season 2 introduced Barry Allen, and officially kicked off the rest of the CW's Arrow-verse, which now includes Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl.
The showrunners certainly had their hearts in the right place (and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg even admitted that Arrow was a show they made to get to the Flash), but somewhere along the way, the thing that made Arrow such a great show was lost. No longer was it about a man's solo journey for redemption. All of a sudden, he was taking on assassin organizations, and ever five seconds, his secret identity was revealed to yet another character. Nowadays, everyone's...
